We stopped in here after going to the dunes on Sunday afternoon. I sure wish this place was close to home for us. The bartender Sarah was very knowledgeable about the craft beers and very attentive. The interior is remodeled and very clean. The food is amazing. The owner came over and and personally talked with us. I also noticed the way he spoke to and helped the employees when it got busier. Top notch owner. We were so comfortable we stayed and had an appetizer after our dinner. Can’t wait to return. This is the first review I have ever written because they deserve it.

This was the worst, most humiliating experience I have ever had at any establishment in my entire life. Was treated extremely rude by the bartender Mike, out of nowhere. It was as if he had something against a female paying patron, dining alone. Had one beer and was told that I needed to leave immediately. When I brought it up to the owners, I was belittled and it was as if they condoned this treatment of a customer because he was an employee. If I could give it zero stars I would. From other reviews, it seems as though this bartender has a reputation for treating customers in a terrible and disrespectful way. Keep a rude bartender who is giving your establishment a bad energy and name, or keep a paying customer who has previously enjoyed coming to your establishment? I left feeling completely speechless and mortified! I will never frequent this establishment again.

A friend and I tried the new lunch specials for $ 7. We asked for a super-​special house salad, and they delivered. The sausage and tortellini soup was fantastic.
Somehow, while I was there, my wallet fell out of my coat pocket. Today, the owner personally delivered my wallet to my house.
Great food and above-​and-​beyond service = a new loyal customer!

Food was excellent! We ordered a flight of beers which was a better deal than a beer itself. Wings seemed overpriced when I can get the same meaty wings elsewhere for cheaper. Poppers were AMAZING. We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way back to Chicago and we were very pleasantly surprised by this place. Comfortable atmosphere, attentive bartender/​server, and the chef even came out a few times to help out. Moderately priced for a couple beers and burgers.

BEST JALAPENOS POPPERS EVER! Good service and nice atmosphere. The food is superb.

From the moment I sat down, I knew Melissa D. had just been here on a bad night. The bartender, Mike, was very friendly, and poured my first drink right away. The regular patrons sitting at the bar near me were super friendly. I’m giving 5 stars, not because it was the best food, I’ve ever had, but because it was definitely better quality than what I was expecting. The Cobb salad was beautiful, and just as tasty as it looked. The hummus was awesome, nice spice to it with the fresh jalapeños, and the pita chips were delicious! And to top everything off, the chef came out to see if I was enjoying my meal. I will definitely visit this place again!

We decided to stop here on Saturday 9/​26, based upon the reviews as well as their craft beer menu. We were told to seat ourselves, so we grabbed a table outside on the patio. We sat for almost 20 minutes before a server finally came outside to drop off a menu. She informed us that she was the only server for the entire restaurant. We asked her for some water, and her response was, «I will see what I can do.» We initially felt bad for her as it was clearly no fault of her own that she was the only person working. My husband and I decided what we wanted for dinner, and I choose to go back inside to the bar to place our order in the hopes of helping our server, and getting our beers/​food faster. The bartender told me I could not place my order with him, because outdoor seating had to go through the waitress. I told the bartender I was trying to do them a favor, seeing as though we had been there almost a half hour now with no service and couldn’t even get a glass of water. He told me if I wanted to wait, he could try to get me a drink. There was no apology for the wait, no offer to try and keep our service, nothing at all. After the amount of time we already waited, I was certainly not going to continue to wait for nothing but maybes. Terrible service, can’t even review the food or beverage here resulting from poor management.

Parking lot is narrow on entrance and exit, but a bigger lot is in back .
Atmosphere is nice. There was live music when I went, good band but a little too loud for a smaller place. (There is also outdoor seating .)
Food was good. I had the hummus platter for an appetizer. Hummus was spicy good with warm pita chips and cucumber as well. I also had the jalapeño burger with the tatar tots which was very good !
Craft beer and cocktail selection is very good as well.
I will return !

Every visit to this restaurant has been nothing but enjoyable. The humus and bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers are just fabulous. My husband loves al the choices they offer in craft beers, and I love their Moscow Mules. It’s nothing unusual to have the management checking in on the customers, and the servers have been attentive and polite. I hear they are coming out with a new lunch menu and more appetizer options for the fall season… just in time for the football!

Returning to Michigan from a trip to Chicago, my girlfriend and I stopped at Gastro 49 for a quick dinner due to positive reviews we had seen online. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but positive. We arrived at the restaurant to find the restaurant mostly filled by a painting class. We ordered our meals (which I found to be overpriced) and were not particularly impressed by the quality of the food. The service was quite slow and my girlfriend was forced to wait in a long line for the bathroom that consisted of painters emptying their paint into the bathroom sink. When the check came, I was very annoyed to see that they had charged us a dollar extra for lettuce and onion on a ten dollar fish sandwich (this upcharge was unmentioned on the menu). That just isn’t right. Pressed for time, we got back on the road rather than arguing over this menial and ridiculous charge. I wouldn’t recommend Gastro 49 to anyone.

Stopped in with three friends Saturday around 10pm, finding 8 other patrons. The bar staff had two guys, so I was kinda dismayed that service was just ok. I might be picky, but it wasn’t top end service, that’s for certain. Anyway, they were out of 5 – 6 beers on the menu. Happens, I guess.
Positives: a very charming atmosphere, kids are welcome and they serve 18^th Street & 3 Floyd’s.
I’ll be sure to try it again.

Great atmosphere and an excellent selection of craft beer and cocktails. Management was around several times to check on us. Great new addition to Chesterton!

Not too much here that relates gastronomically to its name but it is a nice, friendly, clean place that has a good selection of craft beers, is newly renovated, and is nonsmoking.

Great craft beers on tap, food is a excellent and terrific service and fantastic company

Used to be Uncle Joe’s…new owners… completely renovated… regular 6 beers on tap plus 12 changing craft beers. Really comfortable atmosphere… even a small couch corner… SMOKE FREE… acoustic music on weekends. I’m told food is not good though but haven’t tried it.
