Sadly, this restaurant closed on Sept 27, 2014. We only got to go there once, but are very glad that we made the trip. The people there, the food, the restaurant, the cute little town made for a lovely experience. I’m sorry that I only recently found out about this place just a few weeks before it closed because I would have definitely gone back!

Some outstanding food, but very poor service. I’ve been hearing about Six Main for a while and finally had a chance to go tonight. We reserved a table for 6:30 on a Tuesday night and the place was relatively quiet when we arrived. The night started off very well as we tried some special seasonal drinks. The pumpkin martini was outstanding. I also had a pumpkin old fashioned that was very good. We eventually got a plate of bread and hummus. Even though we only received three small slices, the bread melted in your mouth and the hummus was excellent. We ordered the vegan tasting sampler for an appetizer and the presentation was superb. An artistic, intricate dish that clearly took a lot of careful effort. I think even Chef Ramsey would have been impressed. The bread was savory and paired very nicely with slices of cooked avocado. There were three spoons with an earthy, green soup. Pickled radish, cucumbers and mushrooms were tasty, but heavily soaked in vinegar. The otherwise plain soup helped offset the highly acidic pickled veggies. The plate was topped off with some broccoli stalks that were barley seasoned and kind of bland. Overall, it was a good sampler to taste a variety of flavors. I didn’t expect to fall in love with every single taste. For the main course, I had the drunken noodles. This dish was good, but not the greatest. I felt like the ingredients were just haphazardly thrown together. It looked a bit sloppy for $ 19. I also wasn’t a fan of the mess of scallions all over the noodles. My friend had the portobello steak entrée. It was good, but also lost a few points for the way it was put together. Four very greasy onion rings just plopped on top. The mashed potatoes were chunky and my friend thought they tasted like boxed potatoes. For dessert, we decided to split the banana coconut cream pie. The filling was fairly good, but the crust was a dry and crumbly mass of nuts. The overall experience of food was generally good. I think the appetizer capped it off with it’s great presentation. The rest of the meal had good flavors, but presentation and attention to detail was inconsistent. I would rate the food 4-stars overall. The service is what really disappointed us. The waiter seemed unsure of himself and struggled with the menu. We asked of the pumpkin custard was vegan and he quickly said, «yes it is, I’m 100% sure.» Then about two seconds later he backpedalled and said he would find out for us. It was not vegan. What upset me the most was the fact that they refused to honor the happy hour drink prices. We ordered the drinks by 6:20, which seemed to be safely before the 6:30 cutoff. The drinks were 10 bucks each on the tab and I asked about it. The waiter adamantly said that it was too late for happy hour. I explained that we ordered the drinks before 6:30, but he said that there was no way of knowing when exactly we ordered. Are you kidding me? I’ve worked in business management for years and you don’t argue with customers, especially when the customer is right! I was being very polite, but in the end, they would not honor the drink prices that were advertised. Very disappointing. We paid 90 dollars before the tip, so I was really expecting better. Since the service was poor(2-stars at best), I have to rate Six Main at 3-stars. The prices are steep and I expected better service. If we’re rating food alone, then yes, it was excellent, for the most part. A couple of extra notes. They’re closing the last weekend in September. I’m on the fence about going back or not. Also, the menu is only about 2⁄3 vegan. They’ve added seafood and dairy cheese. I’ve also been told that they serve eggs on weekends for brunch. I never really understood places that advertise/start vegan, but then add non-vegan items to the menu.

This was our first trip to a vegan restaurant, my mom is newly vegan so we thought we would try it. I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect-I eat meat and thought I’d be in trouble! This was one of the BEST meals I’ve ever had! We ordered the avocado fries and the Korean tacos as an appetizer, both exceptionally good! For the main course I ordered the patti melt, which was a beet based patti with Brie on Challah bread. It was extremely flavorful and very filling. My mom tried the drunken noodles. The tofu was perfectly crisp and it had a great blend of textures and flavors! All in all this was an amazing meal and we will defiantly be back!

Wow! This is the best vegetarian restaurant in Connecticut and it honestly rivals(and beats) many/most of my New York City favorites. Extremely friendly to vegans, raw foodies and gluten free folks. Here’s what I love the most: virtually zero reliance on soy, tofu, tempeh, seitan etc. Don’t look for that here — happily, it’s just straight up not on the menu. Instead it’s all about the lovely vegetables and whole grains expertly prepared with gorgeous sauces. I really believe that *this* is how most not only vegetarians, but other folks who enjoy delicious, clean food, want to eat. The results are delicious and visually stunning. Do not hesitate to bring your omnivore friends and family here. Brunch and lunch are fantastic and highly recommended but dinner is where the real magic happens. The menu is ever changing and we’ve literally never had a single thing we didn’t love. Ditto for the cocktails. I’d recommend specific dishes but they might be gone in a week. So instead, go and try for yourself… order everything that looks/sounds good… and settle in for a fabulous meal! And don’t miss cocktails(never too sweet, always gorgeously balanced) and omg dessert.

I came here for dinner with a friend. It has a relaxing and intimate feel to it. We ordered a bunch of things to split from their small, but creative menu. For appetizers, we chose the avocado fries, Korean tacos, and the gluten free foccacia. I had no idea there was a way to make avocados more delicious than they already were. I was wrong. The pieces of avocado had a thin, crisp, and perfectly seasoned layer on the outside. The best type of «fry» I have ever had. For entrees, we chose General Tsao’s cauliflower and the raw zucchini linguine. They were incredible. We ate all of this with great cocktails to accompany. I had a fantastic pomegranate hibiscus margarita. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert! I cannot wait to go back! I could not have been happier with everything we ordered.

This is my mother’s absolute favorite restaurant, so naturally, we went for Mother’s Day! My mother is a raw vegan, gluten free, has allergies to x, y, and z… you get it. Six Main has so many options of incredible creations that already fit her needs, so she doesn’t need to «modify» dishes. Here, she can breath a sigh of relief knowing that she can eat virtually anything on the menu and be fine. *I believe everything here is vegan unless noted otherwise on the menu* I made reservations for 4 people at 2:00 pm for Mother’s Day, and we were seated right upon arrival. The décor is simple and clean, and the space is an old bank, which adds character. We were seated by the owner, Rachel, who my mother recognized from cooking classes she took here. She was very friendly. We opted for the filtered water(no extra charge) which came in cute glass bottles. I had a sangria to start, which was tasty. My mother had a green juice, and dad had a machta(spelling?!) which he compared to a gourmet hot chocolate. We started with two orders of the tacos and one order of the nachos. The tacos were OUTOFTHISWORLD. Seriously. For our salad course, I had the wedge(as did my brother), mom had the farm greens, and dad had asparagus soup. I loved my wedge, it was unique and beautifully presented. Main course, my brother and I both had the General Tsao’s Cauliflower, mom had one of the specials, the cucumber noodles, and dad had the tostada. My cauliflower was definitely spicier than I was expecting, but I like a little heat, so it was good. My brother, on the other hand, couldn’t handle the spice. He took the rest of his home to mix with something to tone the spice down– what a wuss! I tried a bite of dad’s tostada, which was awesome. Not sure of all the ingredients, but it was unique tasting. Dessert, we had coffees and my mom and I split the dessert sampler. It came w/chocolate turtle torte, banana coconut cream pie, carrot cake, and rhubarb apple crisp. The carrot cake was my favorite, for sure. My mom got some chocolate turtle torte to go(it’s her favorite). Total, our bill(with tax & tip) was $ 218. High priced, but nice to take mom to a place where she can order with ease and still enjoy all the dishes. I’ll certainly be back!

We went to six main bc we had a gift certificate & my friend really thought we’d enjoy it bc we are very health conscious eaters. Our food was amazing but our service was awful. We were sat at 5:00& people who came in after us were already on dessert when our food showed up — and our waitress never even acknowledged that our entrees were slow to arrive. She was very attentive when we first got there but once it got busy, she vanished. Make reservations for a Saturday night, we only got lucky bc it was so early.

Had brunch here today and I have a feeling that it’s my first visit of many. The place has a great atmosphere, friendly servers and amazing food! I had the hot maca, which I’m sure I’ll be dreaming about, the roasted mushroom soup and vegan, gluten free waffle special. I also had some of my friend’s enchilada and everything was incredible. I really love all of the gluten free options on the menu, too! I absolutely loved this place!

My husband and I went for the Valentine Dinner, five courses featuring edible flowers. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was amazing. I am on a very strict Dr. ordered diet and I have not eaten out recently because of it. This restaurant made it easy, elegant, and tasty to adhere to severe restrictions! The server substituted drinks that were refreshing and within my guidelines. The waitstaff was attentive and able to answer questions regarding ingredients. I love this place. Worth the drive from Manchester in a snow storm. And the lotus chips were better than any potato chip, ever!

Wonderful overall atmosphere. The entire staff is extremely pleasant and very helpful. Each course was delivered in a very timely manner even though it was Valentines day. The menu section offers a great variety with all dishes being vegan(unless specified) The dining room does have limited space so be sure to make a reservation if you plan on dining during main dinner hours.

Six Main was absolutely delicious. My future in-laws and I stopped by as a perspective rehearsal dinner place and we loved the food. This is definitely #1 on our list. We only got a couple of items as it was brunch time and we wanted to try things that would be on the dinner menu when the rehearsal dinner would be. We got the soup of the day(some type of spicy chili soup), the kale salad, warm potato salad and an chocolate avocado dish. My future in-laws are not vegetarians and 99% of the time they have some type of meat with their meals. I’m also not a vegetarian but am very vegetarian conscious– I usually eat mostly vegetables and eggs. My future in-laws while reading the menu noted that if you weren’t vegetarian and someone didn’t point out that this place was vegetarian, you wouldn’t notice there was no meat on the menu. It’s that well-crafted. I know people who are like this– they are eating something absolutely delicious and then you tell them it’s gluten-free or has kale in it, and all of a sudden they’re like«ew I can’t eat it» although they liked it when they didn’t know it was«healthy». Bring a meat eater to this restaurant and just don’t tell them there’s no meat on the menu & they’ll fall in love. Anyways, the service was fantastic and the food was off the charts. I couldn’t stop talking about it the rest of the day. It was the highlight of my day when visiting the wedding venue and the hotel our guests would stay at. The potato salad was made of fingerling potatoes that were cut up. It was dressed in a tasty, light vinaigrette dressing. Everything was cut and paired perfectly. The kale salad had an olive tapenade with a flax seed chip. The salad had blood orange, pomegranate seed and avocado. The chili-ish soup was hearty. I was surprised there was no meat in it because it had so much texture and taste. The spice built up with every spoonful. The dessert, although I’m not a big chocolate fan, was really good. I was surprised at how rich and dense it was. I was also happy that the cream on top was made from coconuts as I’m lactose intolerant. I’m glad I didn’t have to limit my dessert choice based on dairy. My future father-in-law had the organic coffee, which he said was good but really strong. Overall, everything was amazing. When I cook at home this is what I strive for. Maybe one day…

This particular review is for the cooking class we took right after Christmas. We have been to Six Main several times for dinner, and it’s probably our favorite vegetarian place in CT. But we’ve never made it to the shared-ingredient prix fixe since it’s only on Mondays through Wednesday, and we don’t usually go to «nice» places then. So when I saw on Twitter that they were doing a cooking class showing how to make one of the prix fixes menu on a day we had off for the holidays, I jumped at the chance. I was a bit worried because I’m a better eater than a chef, but their cooking classes are more like watching than doing, which was great for me. The class was very small, with only eight people, and we sat in the restaurant kitchen that’s used every night, which was very cool. The two chefs did a great job of showing all the steps to make three vegan dishes with cranberries, and answered a ton of questions. At the end, we sat down in the dining room and ate the food we just saw prepared, and it was amazing. It’s really restaurant quality food at every level. We left with full stomachs, all the recipes, and a lot of inspiration.

Excellent food! Excellent drinks! Service was pretty good. Started off with killer drinks– lime in the coconut, bees knees, and some heaven sent pumpkin cinnamon grand mariner bourbon concoction that made us swoon and long for crackling fires in snow drenched log cabins full of families dreaming of Santa flying a real sleigh pulled by reindeer across the moonlit sky and into the rooftop– pure magic. Charcuterie with sautéed grapes and Brussels, a perfect oyster mushroom on a brushstroke of silky sweet potato, beet tartare and Harissa chickpeas. Only thing that has come close is the vegan charcuterie at Gather in Berkeley. The nachos were a hit for sharing. Dish highlights were the Wellington, the pasta, and the mole. Chocolate dessert with coconut whipped cream had us fighting for bites. What an amazing meal in the cutest little town ever. On a side note– house it’s in is definitely haunted. When I went to the loo, instead of my reflection, I saw the a little girl in Victorian garb clawing at the mirror from the other side. The air went cold and the door blew open with force and I hurried back to the table, quickly distracted by dessert. So maybe skip if 19th century ghost children are an issue– but really, you’re on the wrong coast if this is a problem.

1.) Just to warm you up: Good Vegetarian/Vegan restaurants are far few in between. Ask my mother, who only eats the two. She is a skeptic, and she would be quick to call someone out on freshness and seasoning. Since it was Father’s Day, I told my mother about this place because I felt it might be something worth it for my mother to try. My palette isn’t truly refined like that, but I must say if something is not good I will be quick to cal that out(namely temperature and some seasonings). So I put this place to the test, and had to find out what was the verdict between my mom and dad. 2.) What your eyes may see: I browsed the website and was amazed at the menu. Not only that, it was great to see that the owner herself was the executive chef, owning a vegan restaurant in California and hitting big. So that was the credibility. Inside this place looked pretty nice. I felt it was an old bank or some sort made into a somewhat upscale place. Everything appeared new, clean; carpets, wood grain. The bar area seats about 6 people. It’s kind of a small place, but definitely cozy, made for the eclectic bunch who comes here. I came here on a Father’s Day Sunday, so business seemed slow. The two bathrooms had actual towels to wipe your hands, equipped with a handicapped accessible toilet. Pretty clean inside there. 3.) Food: I ordered the Belgian Waffle and Egg on top of a bed of beets and kale. To wash it down, I ordered a Wolaver’s Oatmeal stout. I must say everything was wonderful. Everything was fresh. I like how the menu indicates if it is vegan or not(obviously if it has eggs its not vegan). The waffles were gluten free, and they explained the whipped topping, which was«coconut milk, put into a fridge, so it can build up the coconut milk fat, whipped in the morning…» then served on the waffle with blueberries and strawberries. Once again, everything was fresh. The beets, egg and kale were scrumptious, making me want more. 4.) Service: This fell short. It didn’t seem busy and they had one food runner and a server. I believe there were 4 parties overall in this restaurant. Not only my table but others were getting their plates separately and not as a whole, with dishes trailing out 10 to 15 minutes after other plates were already served. The Wolaver’s was the first thing to be ordered and that didn’t come out for awhile, just 5 minutes before the meals came out. Looked like the server was very flustered, so I give them that they were maybe understaffed to justify their cause. 5.) Impressions: Food was great. It was fresh. I just didn’t like the timing of the drinks and food. My mother thinks pretty highly of this place. So two thumbs up!

Well if you’re going to try a vegan joint you could probably do worse. While my wife always leaves feeling happy, I can’t help but a tiny bit of remorse after eating here, like my meal was incomplete. You just can’t beat the egg when you’re trying to bind things. You can’t tell me ice cream is better without cream. I think vegan cheese is a sin against humanity. Not that there aren’t a few instances where they break out of strict veganism into vegetarianism to indulge in an occasional egg, but most of their stuff here is pure vegan. …but you’re hearing all of this from someone who would unabashedly eat human under the right circumstances. I wouldn’t eat a Chinese Falun Gong refugee or anything, but a healthy organ donor, hit by a car, prepared by a french chef? Yes please. I’ve always wondered if vegetarian people would taste different from the rest of us, too. They do a prix fixe here for around $ 30. 3 courses with a beer or wine is a great deal. The prix fixe also revolves around a different ingredient each week, like pineapple, chilies or peanuts. Worth checking out. If you’re ordering a la carte I would recommend the vegan lasagna. The cheese was actually pretty good and the pesto was as good as pesto is. How awesome is pesto? F@#$ yea! Pesto!!! I would stay away from the szechaun veggies, though. The sauce was watery and the veggies were bitter. Having said that, it’s worth mentioning that they have a garden they source their food from in the summer, so winter and early spring eating is probably much different here than prime summer eating. All of the juices and cocktails we’ve tasted here were amazing so drink away! Chester is also a very neat town, worth the drive if you live in the city.

I need to stop everything in it’s tracks right now and say this is hands down one of the best places I have ever eaten at in my life. DELICIOUSTOTHECORE. Each course I had was just as good as the last. This place is located in the very quaint downtown section of Chester, which is apparently pretty close to Gillette Castle. The décor was very updated and cozy, the satff superb, each course made with a delicate balance of flavors and the presentation of the food was so beautiful. They come up with some very creative dishes resulting in high end vegan/vegetarian fare. So tasty, so good, totally want to go back for more. I am stil dreaming about my 6 course Valentine’s Day meal: Figs and honey, almond biscotti mango salad, lentil ginger dumplings, guava sorbet, truffle ravioli and a chili chocolate truffle for dessert. TODIEFOR!

I was excited to finally get to Six Main with some vegan and veggie friends. I’m an omnivore and will gladly eat vegan or veggie dishes if they’re tasty. The renovations to the building are well done. It feels very open and spacious in here unlike other eateries where it feels a bit cramped. It’s an old town center. Other buildings don’t have the space like this converted bank building does. The dining room I would say is elegant minimalist. It was also cold in there as we were seated between an outside door and window. It was really drafty and I had to put my coat on at times. I hate being cold. Our server was very good. She kept my water glass filled(one gold star!) and she was attentive without being obtrusive. The mark of a good server. The food: I tasted most of my companions dishes. The dishes all came out looking beautifully presented. We didn’t want to touch our food it was almost too pretty. But of course, we’re not at an art museum. We came there to eat. The meatloaf was tasty. My lasagna was an easy winner, chock-full of ricotta and tomato sauce. There was one dish with a corn polenta cake over broccoli rabe and beans that wasn’t to my taste. The broccoli rabe was very bitter. They have a great dessert selection. We ordered the apple pear tart. Sounds yummy right? The oatmeal topping was ideally golden brown but the apples and pears were still quite crunchy, raw and barely warm. I like my tart with cooked fruit. Almost like a pie. My advice is bake the fruit so they’re softer. Portions were good-sized. We were stuffed walking out of there. The nacho appetizer was enough to satisfy four of us. The food is original, filling, and the prices are not that bad. You could go to Applebee’s and pay the same for frozen microwaved crap. I’d go again and encourage others to check them out. A lovely experience.

At first read a review by a buddy, Ronald(a Unilocaler) and started craving to go here. On my birthday my husband & I were at Middletown for visiting the temple so we decided to drive to Chester for lunch n finally was here for lunch. They have a parking space at the rear. The staff welcomed us, felt the warmness. The interiors were classy. The menu is small however very difficult to pick one. To start off I had a cooling cucumber n kale drink. Then we ordered a quinoa salad and a zucchini entrée. The drink was cooling and had that punch. The salad was so delicious, cold n had a nice dressing. Loved the salad. The zucchini entrée was a heavenly dish I can say. It was raw zucchini noodles dressed with a creamy cashew sauce and also had some colourful veggies. I just fell in love with this place. The standards are so high felt it like any other star restaurants. Can’t wait to go back again. Just drooling while writing the review: D

Thank you Six Main! I have a new favorite plant based(vegetarian) restaurant in CT! It’s great to have a small menu with everything that sounds so good. A lot of times we go out and are given large menus and nothing is what you want to eat. This place makes it hard to make a choice. We were in for lunch today and the menu was slightly different than online but still great. I started with a nice fresh green juice(i think celery, cucumber and kale– liquid fresh greens like this are so much better than any soda!) and followed with the potato ‘sliders’ — three little potato ‘burgers’ with juicy heirloom tomatoes, blueberry ketchup, a nice aioli, some arugala and some fingerlings on the side. very nice(even though the buns were not perfect, maybe not fresh today?) we also had a raw sunflower, radish, jicama, pepita chorizo wrap that was very nice as well. Dessert was a nice vegan walnut based chocolate gelato with fresh mint and chopped walnuts. nice and creamy without the cream. We were thinking of going back for dinner tonight. We will surely be back, often.(oh and they have their own private parking lot behind the building, which is nice because parking can be difficult over here at times)
