The food reminds me of what I ate all the time at the«karinderia»(canteen) right outside my university back in college. I’ll recommend this place to all my non-Filipino friends.

I came to this place after spending half the day in the hospital across the street. I was starving so when I walked in, everything smelled and looked delicious. I ordered the pancit, chicken adobo, bicol chicken and 2 veggie lumpia. The lumpia was made to order and took about 7 minutes to make. I was happy to wait even though I was starving. Sadly, I was disappointed once I got a chance to eat my meal. The lumpia was not as flavorful as I like and it didn’t have as many veggies that I am used to. The lumpia had a lot of carrots, but not much else. I had high hopes based on the reviews, but for me, this place came up short. The guy who helped me was really pleasent and patient. A few people came in while I was waiting and he answered everyones questions and was really kind to a lady who later told me this was her first time eating Filipino food. She asked him about every single dish they had, he was really good at explaining what everything was. Maybe I just came on an off day. The prices were fair so I think I will give them another chance next time I am stuck at the hospital.

Expensive for mediocre food. Lumpia 65 cents each while better tasting ones from Kainan, Felyns & Ihaw-ihaw are just half of that price. The worse thing … You have to pay $ 0.40 for a tiny tub of lumpia sauce! Ive live here for 30 years and have been to a LOT of Filipino restaurants, the sauce always comes free with lumpia. The Pancit, blunt. Barely taste in it. Only reason theyre able to command the price is most of the customers are non-Filipino Chesapeake Gen Hospital employees who don’t know better tasting Filipino food that is not as expensive. One good thing, The guys at the cashier are always nice and polite! Sorry Maymar. Not coming back to your place anymore.

Great food… great customer service. I watched while Brian(one of the owners) enthusiastically greeted every customer, and treated them like family whether they were a regular or first timer. I had a chance to chat with him while waiting for my car to be serviced at the Nissan dealership across the street. Nice kid. I’m always happy when my money is spent on good food(pork bicol, pancit, and beef lumpia) that is made and served by good people. True on all three accounts here.

Our first time here. Really nice place and nice people. Customer service was great and very informative about their menu items. Their lumpia is great!!! I will definitely go back there for more. We also got the lunch combos of pancit and Bicol express(stewed chicken with coconut milk) — both served with white rice. Pancit was good. I expected more from the Bicol express. It had great ingredients. And I was disappointed as tasted a little too bland. It wasn’t as flavorful as it looked. The ingredients did not compliment each other because of the blandness. However, I am excited to go back in and try it again(hopefully next time it’s more flavorful), amongst other menu items. Prices are really good. Again, the lumpia is delicious.

Okay, from the outside thus place looks so strip mall generic. But on the inside it is a fun, clean place to eat. It’s QSR Filipino food, but it’s some of the best of it’s kind I ever had. The extra touches like a fried Bao(really, it’s awesome) and the fresh made natural juice ‘ade’ of the day(think agua fresca) is just awesome. Great affordable food, great quick environment. Thus us a don’t miss spot in Chesapeake.

I heard great things about this place and couldn’t wait to check it out. I came in for a weekday lunch visit of lumpia and pancit. It was just me and a couple in there. The service was great but the lunch wasn’t. Maybe because I like my lumpia with pork and my pancit with chicken. Either way I won’t be stopping back in. I appreciate their good customer service though.

Very nice people that run the joint. I’ve since returned and tried their pork adobo and was happy. Look forward to trying more dishes in the future. Lumpia has always been great but then again, lumpia to me is like pizza… even bad lumpia is good lumpia. HA!

Yummy food and excellent service. I have ordered trays of pancit(noodles), lumpia(egg rolls) and turon(fried banana fritters) for my coworkers when we craved Filipino lunches. The food is always made on time, yet I’m always late to pick it up(Filipino time)!

I’m thinking maybe I came on an off day??? The service, I must admit was fantastic. I didn’t stick with my usual pancit/adobo/lumpia/safe filipino favorites… I got a different beef dish that was just okay. I did get the lumpia though and wasn’t impressed. But, like I said, maybe it was an off day. I ordered 10 and took the 8.5 home with me because I felt rude leaving them. :( My husband did get one of his favorites — dinuguan — and thought it was pretty good — which is a pretty good indication since he grew up eating it. Apparently, it’s not the easiest dish to make at home, so it’s especially nice when you find someplace that makes it well. He said it was«ok» and he didn’t know, but he’d «probably try it again». The service, however, was fantastic. Very welcoming and friendly. More than willing to accommodate. The décor was good — casual. I thought the chalkboards on the walls were a cozy touch. It was a lot to look at and we actually missed out on the daily special — the fish — because it was on the wall behind us when we came in — all we saw was what was in the counter. We didn’t know there was a whole other realm of things we could get«to order». My husband would have ordered the fish had we known. I would have gotten another dish as well. Like I said, I’m thinking it was just an «off» visit. We will go again — and when we do — I’ll update my review :)

This is a very tiny yet overwhelming restaurant. There is signage everywhere, wall to wall. I don’t give myself enough time to read it because there’s just so much of it. And I typically call in my order and I’m in and out in less than five minutes(yes!)… But I think the signs are about the catering, the lunch specials, the dinner specials, today’s specials, different types of adobo, different types of pancit… You know, I really just don’t have a clue. Just know, if you come to Maymar, give yourself some time to read. I come here just for the lumpia. I keep saying I’m going to try other dishes, and I never do. They also sell Filipino ingredients and sauces from what I can see on the shelves; that’s probably written somewhere on the signs though.

I finally had the time to go and try Maymar Filipino Restaurant and I was so glad I did! My mother is Filipino and I have not found any other people that have cooked as good as her, until today! I’ve craved Lumpia, Adobo Chicken and Pancit and this place delivered, bigtime. I talked to the owner and her son at length and they are really great people and it was just like being back home. I WILL return as often as I can!

I have been here several times and they don’t disappoint. The food here is fantastic. They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Some of them you will recognize and others you won’t. The owner is great at describing the food, and getting you to try new things. The bicol express(spicy pork), and the chicken and pork adobo are excellent. Their lumpia are big, and are also very well made. You can get large orders for parties as well. In addition to the great food are the prices. You can pick up this great food for incredibly low prices. Once you go here, you will come back.

I don’t often make it past Volvo Parkway on Battlefield Blvd. Today, I had a reason to venture a bit further and found Maymar almost hiding in a nondescript strip mall. I love Filipino food; I’m been eating it for more than 20 years. I’ve been even known to cook a dish or two. When you want variety, though, you betta find a good ‘order-what-you-like’ buffet. When I visit a place for the first time, I tend to do a drive-by. The inside of the restaurant, however, was obscured with tons of flyers and notices taped inside the window. No thanks. Since I had never been and hadn’t heard about it by word of mouth, I really wanted to peak inside without venturing in first. Did I mention that I love Filipino food? In I went. The inside itself is small. There are a series of shelves with Filipino staples — rice, soy sauce, and a few other things. It seemed more a food place and less a grocery store. The buffet was nicely set out. The steam table had all of the favorites — Chicken Adobo, Lechon, Dinuguan, Menudo, and a few other goodies. Today I went for the Spicy Pork in Coconut Milk and the Philippine national dish — Chicken Adobo. Both tasted good, but I agree with others that it was a bit oily. The adobo was mild, not as vinegary or garlicky as some others I’ve eaten. I prefer something in the middle — not to acidic or garlicky and not to bland. The pork was pretty good. It had whole spicy pepper in it; they looked like haberenos, but since they were whole, you get some of the heat without the fire. It wasn’t spicy as advertised, but it was delicious. The only issue was the achiote-colored oil — it was everywhere — on the pork, the chicken, and the rice. I love the fact the Maymar is not far from Volvo Parkway, so I think I will be taking another trip or two there in the near future. Next time, I’ll give the Lechon and maybe the Dinuguan a try.

Surprisingly tasty Filipino food for a great price. I went in at around 5pm and they still had the now-old lunch buffet out. It didn’t look appetizing – oily filipino food. To our surprise everything we ordered had great taste! It was as if eating later let the marinade seep into the meat. We had chicken adobo, one of the spicy dishes with coconut, a dish containing beef, carrots, and peas, and lumpia(pardon the absence of the dishes’ names). I haven’t had much filipino food in my life, so everything tasted quite novel to me. Sure it’s a bit oily, but it tastes soo goood… and it’s cheap! Go in for lunch sometime, preferably early, so the food is fresh. They also stock asian groceries, such as the necessary siracha sauce and imported juices and soda. I wonder if I had eaten at a better time that it could contend with Lumpia House. I’m definitely coming back.
