I went in to get a violin for my daughter, the owner seems to be the only one who knows anything about string instruments. The lady at the front desk did not know anything about violins. My daughter tried out some violins. They have a decent size inventory with a large price range, but we had to wait for the owner to return from lunch. If you go there looking for a violin, viola, or cello, I suggest you schedule an appointment first to make sure the owner is in first. Otherwise, this is an okay place to purchase an instrument.

Came here to buy a capo for my boyfriend and when I asked where they were the front desk girl acted like I was stupid. She seemed really stuck up. I asked her if they had egg shakers and she again acted like I was retarded and like she had no idea what I was talking about and didn’t bother to ask the other people working. I am a musician as well and I Hate that artistic people have to act like they are better than everyone else. It was very unwelcoming.

After searching several music stores, this is the only string instrument repair shop I found in the area(over a few bridges and over 14 miles away) that said they could re-hair my viola bow. Kind of surprising considering the Virginia symphony plays in Norfolk. Maybe I was spoiled growing up in a university town with one of the top music programs in the nation. Side note — they do not sell sheet music, beyond basic practice books. I had not been actively playing my viola or in groups for a few years, so I don’t know if this is normal do the effect of the internet(the explanation offered). I have heard the same for bookstores — which is definitely true in some locations, and in others, there are more independent bookstores than I have ever seen before. The price they quoted for the repair was also on the high side. Hopefully they do a good job — they came well recommended.
