I have visited several times now. Its been inconsistent. Ribs were awesome flavor once but another time flavor was missing. Same with the chicken. Corn bread is good. I am not a fan of the cole slaw or Chili. Coleslaw had a lot of vinegar flavor. Chilli missing flavor — heat yes — flavor no. I will go back and I am hoping for some consistency.

Took a group of customers to lunch here — they were looking for quick and casual. EVERYONE raved about it afterwards. Thankful for others’ reviews that led us here. Lot’s of low carb options!

Excellent BBQ. Between us we had pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and ribs with sides of cheesy corn, baked beans, and cornbread. Meat was delicious with deep smoke flavor, great bark, and not dried out. The brisket is right there with any that I’ve had in Texas. Beans and corn were standard and the cornbread was melt in your mouth excellent! It is an order at the counter and grab it when it comes place so if you are looking for a sit down and table service place, then This place isn’t really for you.

I love Whole Hog. Go often. BBQ is great. I have to say, try and eat in. A lot of the times when I get food to go, they’ll give me the very end of the ribs or the corner of the corn bread. Food is still great, but I suggest eating there if you can. Did a catering event through them and they were incredibly helpful. The event went splendidly, and the food was a big hit.

We split the Hog platter between two people which was the perfect amount. Total was $ 20 which included 4 ribs, pulled pork, BBQ brisket, a side of chicken as well as 2 sides(we chose bean and salad) and it also came with a slice of corn bread. Ribs and the brisket was excellent. The pulled pork wasn’t bad, but wasn’t anything to write home about. The chicken was soft and tender. I love how there are 6 different BBQ sauces to choose from on every table. The dining experience is quite casual. Order up front, seat your self and go up and retrieve your food when you number is called. Tons of award winning trophies are displayed which are impressive although on closer inspection I noticed that a lot of them are from about 14 – 16 years ago. Nothing too recent, but hey maybe they are settled down and concentrating on the restaurant business instead of traveling around and entering competitions. I’m sure that is a ton of work and takes away from the time and effort it takes to properly run a restaurant. In summary, this is a very solid place for BBQ. Probably not the best you will ever have but in terms of price, taste, portion size I think Whole Hog is pretty awesome. We’ll be back.

With Spring and summer right around the corner I’ve been craving BBQ24⁄7. A group of us went to Whole Hog to get our fix and a mixed experience all around. We got a lot of grub so I’ll try to break it down as best I can. Pulled pork was pretty decent but beware of getting it as a sandwich. The roll is Kaiser and HUGE. I think it would be much better on a regular sized potato bun. It was too much bread for the pork. Cole slaw was very bland. Found myself wanting more salt which I don’t like having to add. Brisket looked sketchy but was very tender and flavorful. Ribs were decent and I’d probably go for strictly those next time. The potato salad was very strange because it was made with sour cream. I found myself very torn about it. The cheesy corn was atrocious and I really hope they take it off of the menu and replace it with Mac-and-Cheese. What’s BBQ without Mac-and-Cheese? I even asked at the counter hoping maybe it was a secret menu item. Sadly, I was disappointed. My favorite part of Whole Hog was the 6(7 if you have the guts to ask for the super hot… which we did and it lived up to its name) different BBQ sauces. Gun to my head I couldn’t tell you the names of all of them. But my favorite was #6 that was vinegar/mustard based. I drizzled it over everything on my plate. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing but if I come back for anything it’ll be the sauce!

The weather was nice on this Saturday from the usual cold in Cherry Hill. Me and a few of my friends decided to give the café a try. I ordered the smoked sausage sandwich and my friends got the half rack of ribs each. The sausage sandwich meat and bun are cold right out of the kitchen. The ribs were rubbery and dry not worth the 79.00 $ for everything. Not coming back to this café.

When they first open in Cherry Hill the ribs were awesome. Recently they have been getting progressively worse. I swore I would not return from my previous visit when I got dry ribs. Today it was a beautiful day and they were on my way, thought I give them another try. The have gotten worse. The ribs today were dry and over cooked. The ends of my rack were not edible. It’s unfortunate that the quality of food has gone down. This is my last and final visit. Check the quality of your food before you leave if you order take out.

I eat out a lot being a truck driver. I try to hit all the BBQ places I see. I really enjoy good BBQ! And Whole hog does it right! The brisket is my favorite it is smoked perfect! I think it’s the best around even better then Sweet Lucy’s! The ribs are awesome too! The cornbread is one of the best I ever ate! But don’t take my word for it, give it a try!

3.5 stars really — bbq was quite tender and flavorful, especially when paired with their 7 different bbq sauces(go for number 3!). However it seems fairly obvious that they meat’s been sitting out for hours, which contributed to the slight dryness of the meat, especially the pulled pork and chicken. These two both lacked any extra smokiness or falling-apart characteristics and honestly felt only minorly better than the average pulled pork or bbq chicken. If it wasn’t for a copious amount of bbq sauce I dare say it would have been quite the sad meal. The brisket was good, but similarly was dry from(most likely) sitting under a heat lamp for several hours. The star of the meal for me was the rib, which truly fell off the bone, was tender, and was moist. Sides were unspectacular and fries most definitely came out of the frozen aisle section — wouldn’t bother with these again unless I was truly famished and needed to order a combo. The décor of this place is odd — a mix between old southern style tackiness in the way how they display a trillion trophies around the restaurant for bbq events that are irrelevant because Whole Hog Café is now a chain restaurant and has to mass produce their meat and ship it across multiple states; and, of an old southern homely feeling with their plush booths. Overall the place is reminiscent of a high school cafeteria in presentation. It’s not a place you should come to for important events, but it serves you bbq without fuss which actually, I now realize, is kind of a large part of the appeal of southern bbq. No fuss, all mess, leave with sauce smeared on your face like a kid.

Look out TEXAS!!! We are always in search of somewhere new and delicious to eat, and tonight was no different. Whole Hog?! I’m impressed! We shared the«ultimate platter», pork, beef, chicken, ribs and baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw with cornbread! …and a «taste» of smoked sausage! Yes it sounds like a lot but it was just enough for myself and the hubby. Everything was TEX-alicious! Pulled chicken on point! Baked beans yummmer! Cornbread mmm!!! Just the thing to curb my Dallas & Texas-food-homesickness. «I’lllll be back!» *Arnold Schwarzenegger voice* That is all!

In our quest to find good BBQ in the south Jersey area, we decided to give this place a try. We heard good things about them, so we had high hopes. There are good things and bad things about this place. Upon entering the restaurant, you’re eyes are immediately drawn to the numerous awards they have on display. They were everywhere, so that was promising. Then, you go to the counter and check out their vast menu. They have several ways of enjoying your BBQ experience. You can have meat placed in top of a GIANT baked potato, or on a sandwich or straight up as a platter with sides. I opted for the brisket(as I always do) and my wife ordered the special, the rib meat platter. I got the French fries and the potato salad as my sides and my wife got the baked beans and cheesy corn as hers. Pros: they have 6 different BBQ sauces on the table, so you’re sure to find something up your alley. Also, the meat stayed semi-juicy after being sliced, which if you’re used to getting brisket, you know is no easy task. The potato salad was really good. It was a skin-on salad with a combo of mayo and sour cream as the base. The sour cream was a nice touch. It gave the potato a bit of a zing. Different, I like that. What I wasn’t crazy about was: the brisket is sliced super thin, like ordering a corned beef special at a deli. When I want to dig into BBQ, I want to dig into a chunk of meat which I have to use a fork and knife to man-handle. Slicing the meat that thin was weird. It also took away from the flavor in my opinion. And, the French fries were nothing special. Just thin cut, matchstick type of fries. The piece of cornbread they give you as a side was dry and bland. My wife said the cheesy corn was pretty tasty. The beans were plain old baked beans. And her meat was good, but would have worked better on a sandwich rather than just a ton of shredded meat on her plate. On another positive note, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant and bathrooms were really clean.

As a transplanted Iowa farm boy who grew up grilling/cooking pork on a regular basis, going to KC twice a year to eat BBQ in college, living in GA, TX, &MO while in the Army, I feel like I have a decent idea of what good BBQ is. This definitely counts. Nothing worse than overly cooked, dry pork. When I went I got a rack of ribs and some sides. I immediately tried the ribs dry and they were everything I was looking for, flavorful, moist, delicious pork. I also tried every sauce they had on hand. I’m certainly biased on KC style sauce being my favorite but the spicier one I enjoyed as well. The sides were ok besides the cornbread which I got an order to take home with me as I was leaving. My wife made several jokes about Iowa boys and cornbread but it was fantastic. Two points to take away from this: ribs and cornbread, get them. Bring beer to enjoy with your meal. Can’t wait for new location in Medford to open so I can avoid that unholy traffic hell that is Cherry Hill.

I don’t know. I recently went back to Whole Hog. The pulled pork was not what I remembered it to be. They were drier than I remember, not as flavorful, no something that I would eat without barbecue sauce. The barbecue sauces were still very good, in fact these are some of my favorite barbecue sauces in the area, but sauce does not make barbecue. I still think that the ribs are the best thing available here. I’ll have to remember to only get ribs next time. Though this is not something that I typically do at barbecue places. The brisket is not worth it. Very dry. Baked beans are still terrific.

From what I understand, this is a small chain located almost exclusively in Alabama, so I was very surprised to discover that they chose NJ as an expansion location. They are very proud of their award-winning BBQ and prominently display the trophies in the entrance to the cafeteria-style dining room. They also do catering for your party, if you don’t barbecue on your own time. It’s simple to order – go to the register, choose your food off of the wall menu, pay, and sit. Your number is called when the food is ready. I went with the pulled pork plate($ 8.95), which came with a large piece of cornbread and two sides. I went with chili(lots of beans and meat, a little watery, and quite spicy) and potato salad(sour cream base). The pork was a bit dry, but I suppose it was so your chosen BBQ sauce was better able to stick to the meat. There are six to choose from and I especially liked the #3 sauce(spicy tomato). The plate is an ample portion and doesn’t look unreasonably large, but it’s extremely filling – I could hardly walk when I left. Or, as my mother said after eating a ton of pork, «I feel like a stuffed pig!»

Whole Hog is a great name for this Jersey strip barbecue joint. It’s a big place, with a cozy dark-wood atmosphere, appropriate for this style of restaurant. The meat is delicious, cornbread is about as good as it gets, you get decent value for your money, and the choices of 6 uniquely different sauces at the table is outstanding. I never leave here hungry, and always look forward to my next visit!
