There is a reason why the locals are now protesting the Mirror, discontinuing subscriptions, and appealing to local businesses to pull their advertizing. First off the quality of the writing and editing is poor, but mostly, it’s the lack of journalistic integrity and the reporting of gossip, rumors, and inflammatory one-sided opinions of the editor. They tout hits to their website, Facebook, and twitter as ‘increased popularity’ but it’s misleading– hits from posting inflammatory remarks and gossip is NOT journalism. In my opinion, it’s irresponsible.

I think since they hired a new editor and new staff writers, with the help of social networks as FB and Twitter, the Mirror has reached more readers, thus increasing it’s popularity. I don’t want to take any credit away from the writers, I think their fresh ideas have also improved the paper in some aspects and won some new and younger readers in the process. I like and appreciate the passion behind it all. I love my twitter updates. I think the Mirror is doing an excellent job with this. I don’t always have the time to read the paper and I love my bathroom rendezvous with my twitter feed.
