Cook-Out Grill

So of course I wanted to see what all the hubbub was about when this place opened. I was told tales of charred meat patties, crisp fries, and thick shakes… on the cheap! (No seriously, we got two burgers, two fries, chili, a chicken wrap, and two shakes for $ 12.)
In another life, I worked no-​frills short-​order grills. This place reminded me exactly of a menu I used to know, only the lobby is better lit and less greasy. Speaking of which, it was a little odd to have such a Midwest lodge theme for the décor of a burger resto. Big chunky wood tables and cutouts of elk and pines. But hey, not my circus.
So let’s take a bite out of the food, shall we?
It’s not too shabby, especially for the price. But it didn’t knock my socks off, either. I did enjoy the nice grill flavor of the patty, but it was crumbling apart on the bun. And you can get your burger topped just about any way you like it. Good, healthy slices of onion, too!
The fries weren’t bad. They were at least well cooked and GBD! My order came with an extra side, so I opted for the chicken wrap. A chicky finger with lettuce and honey mustard wrapped in a tortilla… and a complete bore. Next time, I’ll double down on the fries or onion rings. Hubbs opted for a side of chili, and we both gingerly placed the lid back on the little frightening cup of meat. Nope. Just gonna forget that ever crossed my lips.
But oh my, that Cheerwine float. I’m definitely going to go back to make my way through the menu of dairy delights in a cup! I absolutely see a chocolate shake and fries in my future. Because, you know, dunking fries in your chocolate shake is just a thing we do around here.
So, we’ll definitely go back. It’s not compelling and something I’ll specifically crave, but it’s going to be good for those days you just want something quick and cheap.

I drove by cookout on the way to another fast food place. When I saw the crowded parking lot and the drive-​through line, figured they must be doing something right. As soon as I got out of the car and smelled the burgers cooking I got even more hungry. I definitely wasn’t letdown. The burgers were awesome and the sides were really good. Even the milkshakes didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend this place.

Newly opened, this place is extremely popular but based on the food I see nothing that stands out.
They do have reasonable prices for burgers and hotdogs and have plenty of toppings for them. Of course this is a review based on one experience and they have many Menu items I have yet to try. For this visit I tried a chill dog, burger and shake. Hotdog did not seem freshly cooked but chili was ok. Just a normal plain chili dog. Burger was average, nothing that stands out. I was mostly disappointed by the shake.
They state premium shakes on the signage. But I guess premium only means you can get a lot of different types, 40 types on the board. But it is not a handmade shake. Mine was at the counter before I even paid right out of the machine. Thick soft serve to me.
Layout inside is good and kind of a North Carolina mountain feel to it. They have BBQ, along with other items to try so will hit it again in the future and update the rating should it be warranted.
