Excellent service by our waiter, Tyler. The wine was never empty, the bread and oil were always filled, the dinner was great and ample! The atmosphere is perfect for old friends to catch up and new lovers to romance one another. Must try for locals and visitors alike. Expect $ 25ish a person for wine and dinner. $ 40ish a person for 2 wines, dinner, and the amazing crème brûlée.

Exceptional service. Food was fantastic and fresh. Love the atmosphere and environment. Nice and cozy. Great variety of Italian cuisine and the Crème Brûlée was out of this world.

Off the beaten path a bit in a area not really known for their exquisite restaurants’ however this is probably the best, authentic Italian cuisine in the area. The Involtini with fettuccine is a dish we keep coming back for time and time again.

I’d been wanting to eat here for years. A few weeks ago, my husband and I finally decided to give it a try. After driving by the place a few times(we found it, hard to get to at first,) we walked in on a Saturday night around 7:30 and were asked if we had reservations. We said no, and the restaurant looked to be about 60% empty, but they said they couldn’t seat us because they were booked up. Ok… so we left. But another couple we dine with regularly had also been hearing good things. So on a Friday afternoon I called to see if we they could get all 4 of us in that night. The guy that helped me on the phone said they had some reservations and what time would I like. I said 7:30. He said«we try not to make reservations between 7 and 8 because of the flipping.» I thought it was weird, but he said«I can do 7:45.» which was fine. We got there, and while we waited to check in there was a party in front of us turned away because they didn’t have reservations. They were told they could wait till 8:15 to see if a reservation didn’t show. The dining room was fuller this time, but they could have easily seated that party, IMO. Especially since it really cleared out after 8:30. Thankfully we were seated since we had a reservation. The good news is, despite all the weird reservation issues, the food was AMAZING. It’s a meal I think about often, it was that good. The consensus was mutual between all 4 of us. We had apps, pasta, and dessert, all delicious. I am a huge fan of Alleia, and honestly, this rivaled it for me, as far as the food went. Definitely not the same in terms of ambiance, and no fun cocktails like Alleia. I will definitely be back, sooner than later.

This place is SO close to being 5 stars!!! The location is a little awkward, tucked into a neat old brick building. Loved the free parking. The restaurant is cozy and intimate, very endearing. We had a decent sized party for a friends birthday, which they were able to accommodate with a reservation. Our table was ready when we got there. Our server was very kind, professional, knowledgable and accommodating. He made several excellent wine suggestions. I ordered the caprese appetizer and it is the main reason I took a star off. The fresh mozzarella was fabulous but the tomatoes had little flavor and there was only a small sprinkling of fresh basil. There was a small dallop of some type of aoli or something similar… Was a strange addition but a welcome splash of flavor. They need to consider taking this off the menu when tomatoes aren’t in season… They really took away from the lovely mozzarella. And it needed balsamic vinegar desperately. For my entrée I ordered the seafood fettucini. I am not a scallops fan so I asked for those to be left out. They obliged. When my meal arrived, I only saw shrimp and thought maybe they prepare mussels differently than I am used to. There were none. Our server immediately went back to the kitchen and in a few minutes brought out a bowl of several beautiful mussels, perfectly cooked. The pasta is homemade and was perfectly cooked and had a delicate lemony broth like sauce. It was very tasty. So, if the kitchen can fix these minor mishaps, this is definitely a solid 5 star restaurant. Oh and a huge bonus, they will give you a free pasta and dessert on your birthday. I totally know where I am going for my bday! This place is an excellent date spot… :)

Finally got to visit Boccaccia. It’s been on my list forever. Kind of too romantic like to just go with a friend and the BF is not so much into«fancy» dining, but it was my Bday dinner so I got to cash in on the birthday«wherever you want to go» card. Love the old building that it’s house in and they’ve done a fine job of making the interior match and look rustic yet romantic. Almost makes you feel whisked away to a little café in Italy. We arrived and the host asked if we had a reservation, which we did not, being that it was a Tuesday evening I didn’t think it would be busy. It in fact was not busy, many empty tables which made me kind of chuckle that he would ask if we had a reservation. He kept looking at the seating chart trying to figure where to squeeze us in. LOL. The table is beautifully decorated and we were greeted by a lovely foreign man, Spanish perhaps? Made it all more fitting of the scene and romantic. The bread basket and olive dip is really yum. Would have been even better if the bread had been warmed up. We started off with the antipasti meat platter. Finely shaved cuts of salami, prosciutto and another type of cured ham along with some fresh mozzarella, parmigiano-reggiano and fontina with a couple of marinated peppers. I’m usually not a big salami fan but this was really good. Nicely seasoned and cured, not too strong. My BF tried everything and that’s saying a lot for him. We both ordered the lasagna entrée. Oh man. A really nice size serving with crispy edges and a lot of meat. Seasoned beautifully. I could only eat half of it. It really was very delicious though I would have liked it to be more cheesy too. There wasn’t much cheese at all or even ricotta cheese. Maybe that’s the style of this. It was still fabulous and well worth it. Our server was very friendly and made it a very pleasant experience. I would most certainly go again, just got to save up my «wherever you want to go» cards.

Been wanting to go here for years. This is one I can cross off the Nooga dining bucket list. St. John’s to go. One thing we really have good in Chattanooga is Italian restaurants. Good Italian dining is hard to find anymore. In Portobello’s, Il Primo, Boccaccia, and Alleia, we have four really good independent Italian restaurants. I’ve eaten at the best in Knoxville and Nashville, and ours are far better. I didn’t enjoy my one visit to Alleia, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. We went here on Friday night, one of the three Valentine’s nights. They were sold out for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They brought in two extra tables to handle more diners. The menu was a special, limited menu, so they could handle the crowd. The owner comes in during the morning and afternoon to do prep work — mainly make pasta. Then he usually goes home. I wanted to meet him. I think he used to own an Italian place where Community Pie is now, maybe ten years ago. This is in an old office building. I think part of the old Scholze Tannery. Chattanooga used to make more horse saddles than any city in the world, thanks to Scholze. Stained cement floors, old world Italian furniture. Very spartan interior. It was chilly in there, too. They should have closed the second set of doors. We got the«Torre Caprese, «a Caprese salad stacked up. Tomato, mozzarella, basil, balsamic dressing. Not that good. The dressing was lacking big time. Bread and olive oil dip. Bread was from Bluff View bakery. Good bread. Dip was really good. I got some butter, too, and it was not good butter. Not salty enough. Entrees: wife got lasagna and I got spaghetti with Bolognese sauce. Here is where they shine. The best, creamiest, most flavorful lasagna I’ve ever had. Better even than Primo’s. Pasta made in house. The Bolognese dish is usually made with pasta made in house, but not tonight due to them being so busy. So the pasta came from a box, but it was good, cooked slightly al dente. The sauce was as good as the lasagna: Outstanding. Service was a little spotty. She had the biggest table in the house next to us. Toward the end, they all ordered coffees. That takes a long time to pour eight coffees, eight creamers, etc. There were long periods when we went overlooked. But she was nice. Overall, this place is very good. I personally would not rank it as good as Portobello’s or Primo, but I wouldn’t argue with anybody who would.

I’ll start this review by saying my boyfriend and I have been to this place in the past(with reservations) and had a pleasant experience. Good food, our server was so accommodating. Four stars for that experience. HOWEVER, we went back recently 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. This place was not bustling by any means. No one was waiting, there were plenty of tables. We walk in and no one is waiting at the front.(Rather than being welcomed in, a short and disheveled looking man-host walked up and picked up the ringing phone with his back turned towards us and addressed the call-instead of asking them to hold and addressing us first. He finally turned around and asked if we had reservations. We replied no and gazed to the right were half or more of the restaurant was empty. He then said«If you don’t have a reservation, umm… I don’t think that we can help you tonight.» We were a bit in awe, replied«have a great night» and left this place for the very last time. We had a wonderful experience last time but we will never come back and will not let anyone we know come by.

While the food was delicious, the service leaves much to be desired. It seems as if people only come here for a birthday as each table had a birthday reminder grossly sitting on the table and there were very few people there and the experience was somewhat boring.

Came here with another couple on Friday night for dinner. It was delicious. I must admit, I underestimated this place. I’d rather dine here than Il Primo any day. I enjoyed the entrée here(chicken with balsamic reduction) better than Alleia. The appetizers can hold their own. We ordered the carpaccio and meet & cheese tray(this was the only item that was disappointing, it was more like a hillshire farms deli meat tray). The«full bar» is extremely limited, but their wine selection makes up for it. We had a few bottle of Malbec and chocolate torte and tiramisu to end the night with. We’ll definitely be back.

Involitini Val d’aosta is the only reason hands down to repeat this restaurant. This dish is hands down maybe the best meal prepared and cooked in Chattanooga. I have had it more than a dozen times along with everything else in their menu and this is absolutely the best. There service usually is average and there bar is horrible, well there is really not a bar that you can actually sit at at least.

Don’t visit unless your from around the area. Driving thru wanted to surprise my parents for an anniversary dinner. It was 730 on a Tuesday. There were maybe 5 tables in use. As soon as we walked in we were asked if we had a reservation which I can understand At a nice restaurant. But when it’s Tuesday and the place is EMPTY. We were traveling and passing thru as I mentioned so being in the car for 12hrs we were not dressed to the nines and were looked up and down to feel like we did not meant their standards. The hostess walked away for ten minutes to see if they could fit us in. After her attitude I was very disappointed and embarrassed for the fact I was trying to surprise my parents. So we went to the next very nice restaurant down the road. Completely unacceptable. I researched this restaurant for weeks as I knew we were driving thru… waste of time!!!

Simply amazing. The orchiette with sausage was amazing as was the spinach ravioli in brown sage butter. Portions are large, but not huge. You won’t leave hungry! Place is a little loud.

My experience was best summed up by a friend at the table that said, «Meh, yeah, it’s good, but not somewhere I’ll be rushing to come back to.» Nice, industrial chic atmosphere. Service was okay. Caesar salad was fine. The portions are a bit small for the entrees, which would be fine if there were a starch to go along with it. I had a salad, then my main entrée of scallops and shrimp, and the side was … a salad. They put both scallops and shrimp on skewers — they were good, but there was some grit in my scallop and the shrimp were a bit overdone — tasted pretty good though. My friend’s ravioli was the star of the table — it was delicious! The chicken(piccata, I think?) was also labeled«fine.» and the flounder special was«kinda a let down.» I ordered a gin and tonic, and the tonic was flat. This drink rather symbolized our experience.

If you want the real deal come here. Always extremely satisfied. Everything in the menu is awesome. The birthday person eats free as well! We frequent definitely on birthdays, anniversaries, and about anytime we are in the neighborhood. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for real Italian!

A little spendy and worth every penny. A very nice atmosphere with great service. The food is amazing. We really, really love this restaurant for special occasions. Oh, on your birthday dinner is free Kind of hard to find as there is no access off Broad. Turn on 31st and then two rights into the parking lot.

Home made pasta, great flavors and sauces, and excelent desserts! What a great Italian spot… and in Chattanooga! This place is a little hard to find — have to take a few back roads off of Broad St to find it, and once you do find it — you’ll likely have to wait for a table in this small homey restaurant. Reservations are pretty much a must — and you’ll still be waiting even with your reservation. The atmosphere’s nice and cozy, with maybe 15 – 20 tables inside. Brick walls, low lighting, pretty romantic for your dates w/vampires(Yes, i’ll get to that later). The food is pretty awesome. Carpaccio(raw filet served with bruschetta, parmesan, and greens) was just amazing. Tender thin slices of meet, slightly buttered bread, whew! Calamari is excellent, served with a white sauce that goes so well(i usually prefer marinara w/my calamari — but this… goes well). For main course — I highly recommend the bolognese dish — comes with freshly made pasta, which is nice — but for me — the bolognese itself is what’s awesome. As the portion is so huge, I want to request this dish w/half the pasta, all the bolognese next time. =) Dessert — finishing on a good note — is always a great way to go. Lately,(and I don’t think it’s related to just coming back from Rome) I have been disappointed in my Italian desserts, but Boccaccia did well. Excellent flavorful tiramisu. They sold out on our 2nd visit. =( And… a nice crème brûlée(Where I found out my date was a crème brûlée vampire — that cracks the crust, and then eats out most of the inside when you’re not looking! Overall, the food experience was just awesome, but the waits here are long, and not cheap(tho not overly priced — and excellent birthday deals). I’ll be back! =D
