Matadors Community Credit Union

This Credit Union Is Just like any other Bank. They dont care about you or me they just care about their bottom line. Many people tried to convince me to move all of my assets to this credit union. So I applied for a personal loan with a 680 credit score. They told me that my credit score was good for what I applied for and then they requested income verification. I gave the loan officer every proof of income that I was able to supply. They verified that my income matched what I Indicated on the application however, the loan officer said that I needed to supply them with tax returns and year to date earnings statements. I told them that I don’t have such documents because I am self employed. The loan officer (Yolanda) notified me that I was not qualified for anything. So my response to this decision is as follows. You just completely declined someone with a 680 Credit Score and 19 accounts in good standing. For the past 3 years I have managed to pay off a loan with Ford Motor Credit with a monthly payment of $ 377. The loan that I requested from your institution was around $ 200 per month. You guys talked a big game to encourage me to apply but it was the same old thing. You guys are always looking for any insignificant reason to avoid lending money. My debt/​income ratio is 19%. I don’t really see what else I can do to become eligible for a loan. I would say that the lending policies of this institution are completely unreasonable and I would recommend avoiding this institution. They get a one star rating for being polite. They need to earn the rest of the Stars.

This place has the worst customer service if you want to be treated like you’re at the DMV please come here.
I spoke to the manager Sylvia who was the least interested in helping and had a condescending manner.

I live and work in Bakersfield. MCCU refinanced my high interest auto loan with Wells Fargo. I tried to refinance through our local CU (Kern Schools) and was turned down. Matadors wants my business!!!
so…moved all my (WF) checking and savings accounts to them. Shared COOp ATM’s are on every corner. So convenient compared to finding a Wells Fargo ATM.

Other than a problem getting my home banking set up the service has been great! We did get the problem fixed and everyone there has been very helpful.

I am compelled to express my appreciation for the outstanding services I have received since I joined this credit union. From the moment I applied for a checking and savings account I have received stellar service. I have been made to feel that both me and my business are important to the people who work there.
Recently my dog required emergency surgery and the expense was enormous. Joseph Cortez arranged a loan for to cover most of the expenses. He was helpful in every conceivable way.
Marnie Nemcoff has been a dream come true in terms of explaining the CU’s policies and procedures. She ensured that my loan application receive timely attention On a couple of occasions I have encountered here at the branch and she was cordial and helpful.
All of the tellers I have encountered have been professional and personable. They always go the extra step to ensure my satisfaction.
I cannot say enough positive things about the Matadors Community Credit Union, and specifically the Chatsworth Branch. And no, I don’t work there, nor do I have family that works there. I simply am glad I bank there. I highly recommend joining this Credit Union.

Misinformation by the representatives. Was overcharged $ 230 for fees that were originally suppose to be blocked. Representative refused to waive them because they can’t block those automatic payments. This is completely different than what the representative told me. Only so they could open up my account. She went through the application process, which was all on paper, and tried to do things as fast as possible. I’m not sure why this is one of the highest rated credit unions but they don’t deserve to be. At this point, I feel that Bank of America treated me better, which not many people would even say. Stay away from this credit union and look for another place to do business. They don’t care about the customer, they just love charging fees. Please don’t join. They can’t handle paper work when you sign up. I signed a paper that said «if there is no money in my checking a account I am not able to use the debit card» and I apparently used it twice in one day and they overcharged me 64 $. I hope they see this!

I love this credit union! Matadors is so much better than Wells Fargo, in which I can not stand. Rise up people take your funds out of wells and go to Matadors please! And start your kids college fund!

incompetent a**holes. i phoned mccu over a month ago to report a fraudulent charge on my debit card. the rep. i spoke with told me they would close the card, send me a new one and i gave her my new address. i waited 3 weeks for my new card and it never arrived. i finally drove to the branch myself (20 miles) and inquired about my card since i needed the card to pay some bills. they had no record of my conversation with their rep. and no record of my request for a new card. i was told they would send me out a new one at that time and when i asked them to expedite it since they had screwed up with my initial request, they told me they would need to charge me $ 50. i complained and asked why i should have to pay them $ 50 for their screw-​up. the teller told me it was their policy. i told them to expedite it but they better not charge me $ 5o and left the branch very, very disappointed with their service. this is like the 4^th or 5^th time they have screwed up with something big. i phoned today to find out about my card since it had been over a week since i had driven to the branch and was told no request to expedite the service on my card had been entered. the person i spoke with was very unapologetic. i told them i no longer wished to do business with them and hung up. their lack of service to their customers is really awful and i’d advise everyone to avoid them like the plague.

I became a (then) MFCU member in the mid-​1980s and I’ve never regretted it. It was convenient as a CSUN undergrad/​grad and has continued to be very helpful to me for about 30 years. Rough spots along the way were way overcome by great customer service, good deals, periodic loans for cars and emergencies, and now a really good balance transfer deal. And it didn’t matter that I haven’t been in the actual CU for more than 10 years – it is a partner CU with others and their online services aided any transactions I did whilst stationed overseas. I don’t issue many 5-​star reviews. MCCU deserves it.

I’m really happy with MCCU in general and this location is very nice. Quick and easy, quiet and clean, and they even have a drive-​thu ATM at this location. I’m very happy and pleased that I now bank here. I use them as my «stash my cash» location. Out of site, out of mind, so that I can rack up my cash because I’m a horrible saver. Hooray to being an alumni :)

I’ve been going to Matadors for 20 years now, and they’ve always come through for me. I financed my first car with them, and have used them twice for mortgages. Their rates have always been excellent, and when other banks gave us a loan runaround due to a maternity leave, Matadors was there for us.
Most of my needs are met online, but when I’ve needed someone their staff has always been friendly and helpful. The Winnetka branch has a nice drive through ATM which is pretty handy, though usually just using point of sale cashback works great too. I wish I could deposit checks using an online app like BofA, but not having to put up with big bank shenanigans and fees is honestly well worth not having a fancy app.

I had used Matadors in the past to refinance my car and it was a great experience. It was easy and seemless and the people I worked with were so kind and helpful.
A few years later, I purchased a new car and a year later wanted to take advantage of Matadors great interest rates and promotions. I did everything I asked and provided all the paperwork. They told me I was approved and that all I needed to do was re-​open my account. I drove the 22 miles to and from to get the account going. Then a few days later they needed more paperwork and the person I was working with was just plain rude. Even told me «I don’t have time for this» when I offered to read the numbers off my contract when she couldn’t read my scanned copy. Then after sending all the paperwork all of a sudden they determined my car isn’t worth enough and now they are not going to refinance it. Ridiculous — no disclaimers or anything prior to. Maybe it was just this one person I was dealing with but just make sure you have all the info.

Refinanced my car in 15 minutes and saved $ 50 per month. Easy, clear and fast.

I have had the worst experience with Matadors Community CU Loan Department.
I was happy in the beginning when I got my low APR, but now I see that it is my otstanding credit score that gave this advantage and not the bank.
Even though I sent a memo with every payment they never bothered to read what’s in the memo. Two weeks ago they lost my payment and claimed that they never received it, however, my other bank has proof that the check has been cashed by Matadors. They don’t seem to bother to find my lost payment and simply make me pay twice!
Customer service is no help, they just say «payment hasn’t been received». I wish I never got a loan with them.
Update: after two days of vigorous phone calls and e-​mails, they admitted that they received my payment and credited it to another account. Even though they finally found my money, dealing with them has been a headache. One phrase that describes the way they deal with customers is «It is not my problem»… If you are not diligent, they can easily ruin your credit score.

The biggest mistake I ever made was leaving Matadors for a «big» bank. I have no regrets or complaints since coming back. The only downside (and this is really nit-​picking) is that there aren’t 8,000,000 ATMs everywhere. However I so rarely need cash, and can get it easily when I do, that this isn’t anything that I’d take a star away for.
In my experience the staff is fantastic. I’ve never had to wait in line long, and I’ve never had anything but friendly and professional service. Great interest rates, good service, everything you’d expect from a bank but with the benefit of being community-​oriented.
It’s my opinion that everyone should move away from the big banking conglomerates and start using local, community, banking options. If you’re in the area, Matadors’ is a great place to do this!

The staff seemed friendly enough, but no different from a bank. Given the benefits and convenience of being with a larger bank, I see no reason to use Matadors — however I’m sure this will depend on your circumstances.
Relatively new to the Valley, I tried Matadors because I had thought that as a smaller outfit, based locally, they would be like an old fashioned bank — you know, one that controls their own funds and has loan officers who make decisions based on a customer-​by-​customer basis.
These days most banks farm decision making out to a back office underwriting team who press a button on a computer to do a risk assessment (and the whole world saw how successful that system was…)
Unfortunately it seems Matadors is no different — still employing a set of criteria that they admit are counter-​productive, and still powerless to do anything once the computer says no.
So since all you get is the same ‘Bank’ experience, you might as well go with a real bank.

My husband has been with this credit union since he was 16 years old. When we got together, we merged our funds and I brought in everything to Matadors. We have been very happy with the bank and the service. Never had any issues with products or employees. In fact, my parents transferred their accounts from major banks (Bank of America and Wells Fargo) because they were charging fees whereas Matadors doesn’t. Matadors actually gave them money for moving their accounts over! I would recommend Matadors to anyone.
Also, if you have any issues, just call them. I am sure they’ll be more than happy to help you solve them.

–10 is what I give this bank in customer service and being up on the technology. I have been customer for 3 years now and their service has deteriorated since we opened our account. Their phone lines now close at 5pm on the weekdays, and there are no representatives available on Saturday or Sundays even though the world is still revolving. So if a merchant makes an unauthorized transaction on a Saturday or Sunday, you are out of luck until Monday, when the money is actually deducted; no way to initiate a stop payment.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was a company erroneously set our debit/​credit card for an auto payment when we did not authorize it. Because the transaction was unexpected it threw our balance off and we began incurring charges. After discovering this I called the company and they did everything they could to return the money; they took our credit card off automatic payment mode. Even with the credit reflecting on our account and explaining to the MCCU rep what had happened to us, I was told I needed to send them a letter from the company with their letterhead saying they were at fault and I was informed that MCCU would need to review it and there is no guarantee that the fees will be reversed.
I am awaiting the outcome of their decision. I have worked in a large bank before as a customer service representative and it was my decision on whether or not I would reverse fees. The response from the service rep was unacceptable that they could not guarantee whether the fees will be reversed, even though it was not our error was unacceptable. As of this morning I have submitted paperwork to cancel my direct deposit. I no longer want MCCU’s services and will be opening up a new account this weekend. I am extremely disappointed with this credit union.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!!!

If I could give this business a negative star rating, I would. 2 Thumbs down. Never coming here again!
