Yellow Cab of Charlottesville

Very unreliable! This is the second time we reserved a cab for pick up at train station and second time no cab!!! Got a text indicating someone else took our cab tonight! What is the point of reserving a cab when they will just pick up anyone? When I called they said it would be 30 – 45 minutes! Ridiculous and bad business! Never again!

Absolutely HORRIBLE. I cannot emphasize this enough: ***please do not rely on this company — i.e. expect them to pick up you or a loved one per time and place requested*** I have tried this company several times.(why, I don’t know. I should have learned my lesson the first time). Each time, I have tried to use this company to get to a bus/​train to NYC or to pick-​up (me or a family member from Amtrak.) One time, the driver arrived *20 minutes* late (this is why I requested they arrive extra early) and the cab actually waited in front of a house on a *parallel street* to mine. Wtf! Then, when I tried to run to HIM, he drove past me (I was waving and jumping with luggage). Needless to say, I missed my train. Another time, The driver was two blocks from my destination but didn’t know how to «get there»
. So he drove down several wrong one-​way streets (despite my directions) and I missed my bus. watched it drive way actually. And the worst? Effing leaving my frail, 76 year old mom at Amtrak at 9 pm in freezing weather. She called me crying. I had called the company **THREE times** to confirm that Someone would pick her up **in advance** (They ASSURED me all three times she would be picked up, no problem). Well,…NO ONE came! NO ONE. A supervisor was supposed to call me after I called the company completely irate. Surprise! no one called. Unbelievable!!! I’m still boiling about it. How does this company stay in business!!! Horrendous, unreliable and unprofessional. Get it together or get out of the business, YC. ZERO stars

I am giving the two stars because our Yellow Cab ride on 12−28−15 from the Charlottesville airport to our downtown was decent. The cab driver was dressed in a suit! The cab was clean and he had just one paper in the front. He charged us a flat fee of $ 25, and we gave him a $ 5 tip.
Our hotel called for a cab to return to the airport on 12−30−15. We happened to get Yellow Cab again, but it was a very different experience. The driver, Ghassan, tried to charge us a flat fee of $ 30, and I told him that his sign showed it to be $ 25, he agreed to that. The cab was messy with papers, food, and drink, all for his comfort. He was on his cell for the entire drive, either talking, reading, or texting. We feared for our lives the whole time! This has taught us a lesson as we will scrutinize the cab before stepping into it. There are many independent cab companies, and we will give them a try on our next visit.

I had an early am flight. I called for a cab the night before my flight. When the cab didn’t arrive at the scheduled time, I called the Yellow Cab number. No one answered. A few mins later the cab driver called to say he was lost. We live in downtown cville so this was a surprise. After providing him directions he arrived about 15 mins late. There are were also two dashboard lights on (check engine and tire pressure).
When we arrived at the airport, I offered to pay in cash but he didn’t have any change.
This experience has prompted me to reconsider using Yellow Cab in the future.

Called for a cab at 5:30. It finally showed after 3 phone calls saying they’d be any mi ute at 7:45. Then the cab driver was rude to me. Don’t call these people.

Dear Cvillians-​yellow cab is charging ‘meter and half’ today because of inclement weather, and they will make you walk a mile from the house because ’ their car can’t get up there.

HORRIBLE. Literally worst cab company ever. The dispatchers are rude and unhelpful. I called and booked a cab the night before for a train I had to catch in the morning and they never showed up. The dispatcher was unhelpful and rude and when another cab finally made its way to us 45 minutes later it decided to pick up another costumer instead, just up the street from us. ABSOLUTELY never take this company if you are trying to make a deadline. They are unhelpful, unfriendly, and a poor excuse for good transportation. For a city which is so progressive, the fact that this system is so poorly managed is a travesty.
It is INFURIATING.

Unbelievably bad. Basically a scam with an apparent monopoly at the airport. I’ll figure out a better way next time.

What a horrible company. Dispatch was unreliable and incredibly rude. The driver was very dishonest and tried to price gouge. Made me late and missed my train. The reviews say it all. Avoid Yellow Cab Charlottesville at all costs!

Called to request cab at 9:47pm. Dispatcher says 25 – 30 minutes. I wait… And wait… Then take the bus instead. Cab driver calls at 10:44pm, «did you call a cab?» –Yes, 57 minutes ago.
Use a local cab company.

Worst taxi service ever. I was told 20 minutes, and over 45 minutes passed without a cab, despite me calling back twice, so I called and canceled. Completely ruined my night. What is with taxi service in this town?

Unreliable. Unfriendly. Untruthful. Don’t stand behind their service. Online booking not reliable. Dispatch agents were unfriendly and dishonest on phone.

Yellow Cab of Charlottesville in my experience is completely, utterly random and unreliable. I pre-​ordered a cab to the airport. My cab was 10 minutes late. I called. They said, «it’ll be right there.» Ten minutes later I called back. The new person on shift was completely clueless, but promised to get me my cab ASAP. 10 minutes later, no cab. I’m now 30 minutes late getting to the airport. I call back. We’re really backed up, sorry, we’re trying our best. Only a friend who wandered by and gave me a ride to the airport saved the day, and my cross-​country trip. Never again Yellow Cab.

Service has gone way downhill. My husband pre-​ordered a cab during the snow storm since he had to be at work. They wouldn’t let us order it the night before, so we woke up early and called in plenty of time for him to get to work. No cab. 45 minutes after the cab was supposed to be there, we called and were told that a cab was dispatched to our home but no one was there. We’d been looking out the window the whole time and had our cell right there. Plus my husband had started digging the car out just in case.
They said they’d send another cab but that one never showed up either. It was easier to dig the car out on day 2 of the snow storm than get a taxi from Yellow. Never again. Is there a decent cab company in this town?

I ordered a cab the night before on their website for 8:30 in the morning. My Amtrak was at 8:52 so I thought that would be plenty of time.
I usually get a text message saying that my cab has been dispatched, so I called in at 8:30 just to see if my cab had been dispatched yet. The woman on the phone said it hadn’t but said one should be dispatched soon. A cab never showed up. I called again at 8:42, and at that point, I was told that a cab still hadn’t been dispatched yet. I cancelled it, and needless to say, even though I rushed to the station in my car, I missed my train and subsequently my meeting for work.
What’s the point in reserving a taxi online if it isn’t going to show up? Isn’t that the point of a reservation? Super frustrated with this service, and the lady of the phone didn’t sound apologetic at all. Way to go, Yellow Cab.

Terrible experience with Yellow Cab. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very rude and made a snide comment about UVA students. I called an hour in advance to book a cab. Despite this, the cab was 40 minutes late and my friend were late to a concert. Driver didn’t know where the Jefferson was and had us look up directions. The only upside of this company is that they take student IDs as charge.

Had a very pleasant ride from the airport to my downtown Charlottesville hotel.
The cab was a Prius. Very clean and well maintained.
The fare was only $ 25. Another cab company told me it would be $ 30. I didn’t even have to negotiate. I gave the extra $ 5 to the driver!

[0.9-mile drives back and forth]-
First time: Very friendly driver, picked me up on time at 7:45am to CVS (Amtrak). Asked if I needed help with my things, I waved no. Fare ended up being a little less than $ 5, I gave $ 7. Decent ride.
Second time: Coming back from Amtrak to my apartment, same exact route, the fare ended up being $ 8 (w/​only a bit of traffic). The driver asked for a tip, being a bit dissatisfied with the $ 3 increase in fare, I said «$ 9.50» (19%). Though he seemed a bit disappointed, he swiped it anyway. Then I said maybe $ 10 under my breath (knowing that any normal person wouldn’t care for an extra 50 cent, especially after having been PAID already). However, he immediately cancelled the $ 9.50 and reswipedy my card! Talk about being cheeky! To add, he didn’t even bother with my luggages.
*Might be using this cab company again, but will walk right away if the 2^nd driver comes to pick me up again.

AWFUL!!!
We were running late for a reservation and when the cab finally arrived the meter malfunctioned. Instead of taking us to the restaurant immediately, he opted to try and mess with the wiring. After he wasted 10mins doing that, he asked us if we knew how much it would cost to get our destination. We had no idea, so he asked for $ 15… found out it was only $ 8.
This was the second incident we have had since new ownership has taken over. This already poor operation has been run into the ground.
AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!

I’ll begin with the positives. If you are a UVA student and you have your student ID but no cash, you can charge the cab ride to your student account and still get where you need to go without finding an ATM first. You can also almost always get a cab quickly.
The negatives: Dispatch is awful. I’m never rude back because I want them to actually send the cab instead of «forgetting,» but everyone I’ve spoken to there has terrible attitudes. They can be quite rude to the drivers as well, which you can hear over the radios during your ride. On top of that, the prices are insane for the service you get. For example, today I had a large bag which the driver did not bother to help me with (I am extremely petite and have a bad back — this person was by all appearances a strong young man in his 30s). According to Google Maps, my trip was exactly 1.1 miles long and I still paid more than $ 7 before tip. My cab rides were cheaper in New York!
My recommendation is to avoid this cab company at all costs unless you have a UVA student ID, you really need someone to pick you up at the last minute, AND you don’t have enough cash on hand to call someplace better.
