The Shops At Stonefield

I go here mostly for Trader Joes and an occasional movie. Parking can be difficult. I don’t really like the parking situation. It seems there are not enough spaces. Burtons grill is a MUST EAT! I love their food.

Stonefield is an outdoor shopping center that offers dining, entertainment, and retail all in one location. The shops here range from high end to on the cusp of what one might call affordable. For example if you are the kind of individual who has Brooks Brother’s and Vineyard Vine’s taste, but also enjoy Duck Donuts and checking out hiking gear at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, you’re in luck. This place is the utopia for that.
However, if you’re looking for a more budget friendly experience, this may not be the most ideal place to hang out. That being said, it is possible to enjoy the area with a budget; just check the menus of places ahead of time, consider the matinée movie prices instead of going full imax-​core, and take advantage of the nice walk ways throughout. Also, Trader Joe’s anyone? All in all, this is a nice place to take an evening stroll during the warmer weather.
DMV/​NOVA friends, if you’re looking for a close comparison think about if Tysons Galleria and Fairfax Town Center had a love child. The Shops at Stonefield would be a good interpretation of that.

Oh wow! Burton’s was amazing — and allergy friendly! That’s a huge rarity to find such delicious food that caters to the person with food allergies. We loved the beet salad and the pecan tart — yum! Stayed at Hyatt Place — so clean and modern. And as always Alter’d States was a lovely time! All in all we love his area! We come for Trader Joes (we don’t have one in Lburg) and we enjoy the rest!

the Shops at Stonefield really needs to do a better job at getting quality food establishments! Pasture Q was below average, Spoon & Berry (froyo) was horrible, Noodles & Co. was just ok.
the shops have great retail stores like Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Alter’d State and more… and a Trader Joes to boot!
but haven’t had a good meal at the shops yet! tried several places too!!!

The Shops at Stonefield is a fairly new shopping/​dining destination in C’ville. It was still under construction the last time I was in town, so I was surprised to see it open on our visit this weekend. Part hipster, part preppy, and 100% high-​end swank, I’m surprised it’s taken so long for Charlottesville to get one of these upscale «town center» type of places that seem to be in just about every community in Northern Virginia.
We only stopped at Mincer’s during our visit here, but did take the time to walk around the shopping area a bit. A Hyatt and a large movie theater anchor The Shops at Stonefield, and the rest of the area is filled with high-​end shopping and hipster cuisine. Williams-​Sonoma, Brooks Brothers, Orvis, L’Occiitane — these shops are definitely aimed at the wealthy alumni on return visits to Hooville, and those trust-​fund baby students. But places like the soon-​opening Pottery Barn or Pier 1 are places where you can shop for mostly-​useless stuff without breaking the bank. Dining falls along the same lines — places like hipster wine bar Parallel 38 and hipster farm-​to-​table small plates Pasture, and small mid-​scale chains like Travina and Burton’s Grill dominate the scene. But quicker cheap eats can be found at Noodles and Co., with a second location of Littlejohn’s Deli (from the UVa. Corner) and Black and Orange Burger, a reasonably-​priced gourmet burger joint from DC.
While this is certainly an upgrade from what use to hold camp at the intersection of Rt. 29 and Hydraulic, one could argue that this is another example of redevelopment that prices out the locals in the community. But the wealthy residents from the surrounding areas and the wealthy alumni visiting Charlottesville will make «The Shops at Stonefield» thrive.
