How this place can be so different than Thai 99II is beyond me. We LOVE Thai 99II, but Thai 99 is closer to our house. The food is awful, the service is the worst we’ve ever had, and the staff is pretty incompetent. Do not go here! We will never again go there, no matter how much we want Thai. We’ll make the trip to Thai 99II

This place used to be really good with incredible«special pork noodle soup», but the last couple times I went, it was terrible. The soup was bland and flavorless and the other dishes became kind of strange too. I’m not really sure what happened here, but I probably won’t come back.

We ordered the appetizer combo, green curry, and a noodle soup to go. First of all, the combo was pretty measly in quantity and except for the shrimp puff, seemed to come straight from the freezer section at Costco. The green curry did not come with rice, but with pasta!!! Yup, that’s right, a container of noodles. No rice anywhere. I tried to eat it with the pasta but gave up after a few bites. Just didn’t taste right. Menu does not mention anything other that the fact that it should come with rice. Too bad it was cold out and I was not driving back to deal with this. Wife’s noodle soup was so-so. Will not try again. Curry without rice is unforgiveable!

Ordered the Pad Thai this time but felt like the kitchen was not paying attention this evening. My dish was missing peanuts and spice was not there.

Excellent Thai food. Period. Wonderful authentic Thai food with a pleasant environment. My husband and I were a little put out over some of the reviews concerning the language barrier. In our opinion, to base review upon the language barrier and not the food means you do not appreciate the melting pot of our country. We would be very cautious at any«authentic» Thai restaurant where the staff and servers spoke perfect English. They were kind and helpful and provided top notch excellent service. My husbands Panang Curry with chicken was perfect with the right amount of spice to his request and the chicken was abundant! Bonus! Lunch for tomorrow! My Basil Stir Fried Rice with chicken was made with fresh veggies and was excellent. Also a bonus, lunch for me tomorrow! Both meals presented beautifully.

Probably the best Thai place to go to in Cville for a number of reasons. The first is the price, especially for lunch. The prices are really good for the amount you get in each dish, and it’s really tasty food too. The second is the portion size. Lemongrass on the corner serves the same thing at Thai 99’s price, except they give you way less food. If you order a pad thai here though, you get a heaping load of food that is really awesome. For spiciness, you can get mild, medium, hot, and Thai hot. Fair warning, medium is surprisingly spicy so if you are really sensitive to spice, I suggest you start off with mild. Don’t get Thai hot unless you are used to spicy food or you have a death wish. The only drawback to this place is the service. Some of the employees there don’t speak English very well and it can be an obstacle. Final point is do not, under any circumstances, go here in a large group that is more than around 7 – 8. Usually what happens(from my experience) is that food orders get confused super easily(partially because of non-english speaking employees) and/or everyone gets pad thai which puts the kitchen/employees into a chaotic storm of confusion. This place is great for a group of five or less, but I’ve seen firsthand what happens with a large group and it’s totally not worth the risk. Other than that, it’s honestly my favorite Thai place in Cville and I go back there consistently because I love their pad thai.

Yup, still as good as it gets! Mom and I usually go during the weekend so we have never been able to take advantage of the lunch special. Last week however we finally had the opportunity. As usual, it was A-MAAAZEBALLS! For &7.99 you like a Thai Miso Soup, A Vegetable Spring roll, and your choice(apparently what the server told me) of any dish on the menu. Then, guess what– you get ice cream! LOL Even if that’s not accurate(and you can’t have anything) I just find it hard to believe), the choices on the lunch menu are still really good. My mother had the Pad-Thai with chicken(as usual lol) and this time I got the Panang Curry with Chicken– oh my goodness! YUMMY! It was so good. Althugh the option to have a scoop of vanilla ice cream is really neat, and something you don’t often see, I get my mother to go to Thai for Pad Thai and Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert. This time however, it was exceptionally wonderful! Usually she complains about how it does not have enough of that coconut milk syrup so this time I tried to ask for some extra syrup. The waitress said she would put it on the side, so we were like cool, ok. Well… when we got it she indeed put the syrup on the side… but, it was maple syrup… lol But, get this, it was AWESOME!!! Believe it or not, a little bit of maple syrup gives the Sticky Rice and Mango and amaaaazing flavor! Maybe she knew something we didn’t. Love this place– still.

Arghhh the service… I mean they are nice but they just DONTSPEAKENGLISH. I don’t get it why they are hired in the first place. Last time I ordered tom yum noodle soup(and clarified to the waitress a million times because she could barely understand English), and she got me the soup, without noodles. This time, I ordered tom yum soup, and she gave me tom yum noodle soup, with noodles! And the noodle soup tastes so bland, it’s more like over-cooked noodles in a sweetened soup. Just sweet, nothing like tom yum. Worst Thai food I have ever had. This is my last time here.

Authentic Thai that makes you want to lick the plate! Thai’99 is the real deal! Also great for gluten free, corn free, soy free. Fresh ingredients!

The only thing keeping me away from giving this place 1 star is the fact that the food was still somewhat decent. The SERVICE on the other hand… I have never encountered such slow and torturous service especially when there are not that many customers. It took a long time to even get our menus after sitting down. I was actually even considering leaving which I have never even done before. We also had to wait a long time for anyone to even approach us and take our orders. We tried to flag down staff three times and not once did we prevail. On top of that, the food took FOREVER to come out. Luckily as I said before, this place didn’t totally lose me with the food. There is definitely better Thai out there though especially with better service. I don’t know if their service is continually like this or if they were having a bad day but let’s hope it’s the latter.

First time to be there, and that would be my last time as well. Strongly question the food safety… and I was charged 10 dollars more on my credit card!
