By far the best Mexican food in the area and definitely my favorite place in Charlottesville. I’ve tried both the carne asada tacos and the torta with milanesa and asada, and WOW I AM IN LOVE. I literally cannot get enough. I want to stuff my face with Tacos Gomez until my stomach ruptures and I die in ecstasy.
If you make it out here I would recommend asking after their mexican sodas (mmmmmm jarritos). They also appear to serve chorizo off-​menu, and cater for very reasonable prices.

As a Los Angeles native, I suppose it is fair to say I approach «Mexican food» in Charlottesville with skepticism and low expectations. That being said, Tacos Gomez did not fail to deliver. Literally. They delivered over one hundred tacos for an event held by an organization I belong to. Despite being delivered from across town, the tacos got here warm and intact. The asada is delicious, and I’ve heard people rave about their tortas, so that’s next on my list.
I would highly recommend Tacos Gomez for anyone looking for authentic Mexican food (no quotation marks necessary) and anyone who can handle salsa that actually contains some spice!
Also, can anyone say handmade tortillas?! Yum!

Best mexican in Charlottesville. Between the taco options the carne asada is the way to go, but I got my eye on a torta for next time.
Only thing to keep in mind is that they aren’t always in their location — I think they are only there on Friday-​Sunday after 4pm and I’m not even sure about Sundays. At other times, there seems to be a barbecue stand that I haven’t tried.
