The food was mediocre at best, and quickly cooled off due to the shallow plate. My food was cold within five minutes. The atmosphere and décor were dated, but appeared to be clean. However, we heard two children screaming in the kitchen during our meal… The service was good though.

The food here is great. This is the first Chinese place I’ve tried since moving to the area and I am happy with it. I odered delivery which took about 50 minutes to get to my house(which is why I took away one star). But once it got there it was still hot and tasted great. I’ll be ordering from here again

Great prices and lots of food. This place gets 4 stars for having my food ready on time consistently and for the value of it all. Quality is not amazing, but still pretty good for what you pay for. Americanized Chinese food at its finest.

A ton of vegetarian options! I would definitely go back to try more of the items. My boyfriend would give it 5 stars and I’d give it 3 so we settled on 4 stars. The veggie gluten based items were a little on the chewier side compared to many other restaurants I’ve tried, but all of the veggies were cooked well and the garlic sauce was tasty.

It was made fresh and it was very hot when I got back to my room. The fried spring rolls where as probably good as any others but the house special fried rice had no flavor, even soy sauce could not come to the rescue. The shrimp in the rice was fine, the chicken was flavorless tough and chewy. The beef was like rehydrated jerky, it was tough and twisted and not very palatable. Would prefer to never eat here again.

Solid Chinese food all around. Don’t let the simple décor fool you. It may first appear it’s another typical cookie cutter Chinese restaurant, but the food is simply simple and tasty. Under new ownership, the menu are quite extensive. Be aware that there are 2 sets of menus. One for the standard American Chinese, and then there is another Chinese Chinese. We visited the establishment several times, and although there are few hit and misses here and there, but overall the food is tasty and flavorful. It’s a Mom and Pop Chinese without snobby.

Really good shrimp egg rolls. The spicy fish soup was real tasty. Great broth and packed with tender fish, scallions and cabbage. I asked for spicy and got it! I broke a sweat and now understand why the young oriental man in the booth was blowing his nose into his napkin… the soup will clean out your sinuses.

Learned about this place from a friend who told us that new owner/operators had taken over this business. We went with a party of 5. We asked our hostess, Sandy to recommend a family style meal for us. We had a hot pot which was delightful. Next were separate dishes of beef, pork, shrimp and vegetables. All prepared in ways we have never experienced before. They were all very very good. They are waiting for their ABC license. We definitely will make this one of our favorite places.

Worst service I have ever had. I made a delivery order and paid with credit card and when the delivery guy arrived he said that I was supposed to pay with cash. I stood in the rain for 20 minutes as he tried to figure it out. He then proceeded to complain that I was holding him up from his other deliveries. After the 3rd time of giving my card number he told me that it was declined(no kidding they’ve probably charged it three times) and I ended up having to pay cash. Horrible experience. The Chinese is decent but service is always unreliable.

Don’t waste your time or money. Ordered at 3:15 and got our food at 4:45. Food was very very flavorless and both my husbands and my entrees had approximately 3 pieces of small meat each. It was mostly all veggies. And not the good kind either, just shredded celery and such. No carrots or broccoli here. Ordered mine extra spicy and they sent me a side of greasy chili peppers instead of putting it in my food. Go somewhere else, trust me. Sorry Ming dynasty. You used to be a favorite of mine, not anymore.

The key question one must consider when writing a review for a cheap Chinese restaurant is, Would I rather have gone to Panda Express? In Ming’s case the answer is yes Save your money go to Panda.

This place is hit or miss. I’ve eaten/gotten takeout from Ming Dynasty dozens of times due to the fact that they’re the only Chinese restaurant in town with the fake meat(beef, chicken, ham, etc). When the cooks are on, they’re really on. Things are flavorful, fresh tasting, and not very greasy. When they’re off — well, there’s no flavor. I cant recommend this place because the quality varies tremendously. I have had the best egg foo young I’ve ever had and the worst egg foo young I’ve ever had from this restaurant.

Nothing incredible, but not bad either. Good chicken and broccoli, and brown rice option is good. Don’t know why people said the food was bland… unless you’re used to eating food cooked with MSG and this place doesn’t use MSG(I’ve eaten Chinese food with and without MSG… this place doesn’t use MSG). Drink situation is weird. They definitely don’t have what’s on the menu, lol. I opted for water to be safe. Pro Tip: go for lunch. You can’t beat chicken and broccoli(or something else) with rice and a spring roll for $ 5.50.

Every time I return to C-ville, I try to hit all of my favorite restaurants. And this always includes a visit to Ming’s. The menu at Ming’s includes an extensive vegetarian menu including both dishes with fake meats along with tofu and lots and lots of vegetables. I love their sweet and sour veggie meatballs and their veggie fish in black bean sauce. Both dishes are amazing. For C-ville vegetarians, Ming’s is a must!

As a vegetarian, I feel compelled to share the good news about Ming Dynasty. This is the only restaurant I’ve been to in Charlottesville so far that does fake protein for us veggies. Vegetarian beef, vegetarian pork, vegetarian chicken — it’s all there and it actually tastes good. I had the(fake) beef and vegetables, vegetable fried rice, and a spring roll. The food was flavorful and tastes just like delicious American Chinese takeout is supposed to taste.(I say American as a caveat because I am not Chinese and do not have an opinion regarding the«authenticity» of the flavor.) The only reason I can’t give this restaurant 5 stars is because they don’t do delivery anymore. Do not believe their website. It gives conflicting information, but they’ve definitely discontinued it. I’d eat here more often if they delivered, but the mile walk is not so far that I’d get Chinese from anywhere else in town. For those of you with cars, it is right off the highway near Barracks, so it’s location is actually very convenient. Tip: Order online if you’re doing takeout. They have several discounts you can choose from.
