DoubleTree by Hilton Charlottesville

It was nice enough for the fact that we were traveling with our dog. They put guests with dogs on the ground floor and there are sliding glass doors that were were able to take her in and out without having to walk all the way around through to the lobby.
The grounds were pretty and the staff was friendly. They gave us cookies and our little dog got a nice peanut butter treat.
I was hoping they would have had coffee besides the crappy stuff they had in the room in one of those cheap coffee makers and the store was not well stocked.
The bar and lobby area were nice. There was a nice indoor pool below the main lobby and lots of places to sit and stroll around. The grounds were parklike and relaxing.
That being said, the room itself was not really very nice. Very dark and dated. The lampshades were all crooked and the refrigerator nearly fell over on me because it was all wobbly. The thermostat was loose and hanging off the wall. The bathroom shelves had dust an inch thick in the corners. The trash cans had no liners, and the bathroom just didn’t feel clean. The screen to our sliding door had a huge tear in it and part of the curtains were ripped and falling off the rod. Very shabby. The area outside of the sliders was full of leaf litter and the windows themselves were covered in film.
But the bed was comfortable, even though it was barely made… the sheets were just laying on top of the bed and not tucked in. The room was sound proofed well, but I think a lot of that was due to the loud air-​conditioning unit.
Overall, I appreciate that there are places that are dog friendly, but our room was really not the nicest and we have stayed in other dog friendly hotels where the rooms are kept up much better.

Upon arrival everything seemed fine. Check in was friendly & speedy. My guests & I went up to our room, changed our clothes & went out for the evening. Upon arriving back at midnght, I made an attempt to open what was supposed to be a sleeper sofa. It was a sofa. I called the front desk only to be told that the hotel was filled to 100% capacity AND no roll-​away beds were available! So 3 of my guests were forced to sleep in a king sized bed while I curled up on a very small sofa! 2 of my guests were so angered that they decided to go downstairs for a swim. The pool was visually full of bacteria & the spa smelled & looked worse! This as well was reported to the front desk. The spa had to be drained in the morning! The manager Kevin was VERY unfriendly & annoyed at ME for all that I had told him about! He also made no appology & I noticed he never made eye contact with anyone else or smile at anyone during my stay. He did however, take our night’s stay off my bill & move us to another room at 11 A.M. HOWEVER, he SHOULD have also offered a free upgrade & assistance with moving our luggage. In addition, I was not given a Welcome Bag upon arrival that the host and hostess of the wedding party had left for the guests. The Host himself asked if I had received it. I told him no and he had to TELL the front desk to give us 2!
The ONLY good thing about our stay was the FANTASTIC Breakfast and the shuttle to the Vineyard where the wedding was that I attended.
Do yourself a favor and check out the room first to make sure that the room is what you asked for and that there are enough linens and pillows!
I would NEVER stay here again!!!

This was our first time at the Charlottesville Double Tree and we would definitely stay here again.
First, do yourself a favor and download the Hilton App, you can request additional towels and pillows for your room, order snacks or drinks to be delivered to your room, pick your own room and check in right there from your phone. Love it!
I picked my room and checked in online before we arrived. We were traveling with a dog, so I was looking for a room on the main floor (floor 3). I was able to pick my room and order my extra towels and pillows that were ready when we arrived.
The hotel is a little bit older, but has had some remodeling completed. The lobby is very nice and open which is nice and inviting. We arrived early and Angel was there to greet us and get us checked in right away with no wait! She had our keys ready to go, along with our warm cookies and treats for the pooch! She was a gem!
Our room was nice and pretty clean, there was some dust behind the couch, which was evident when you looked out the window. The bed was pretty good. The bathroom was a little small for our liking. There was also a extra sink, with a small counter in the area between the bathroom and the bedroom. We had a mini fridge in the room which was great since we brought some beverages with us.
There is a large area in the back of the hotel for dogs to run and play complete with a poop clean up station. Awesome (usually these areas are really small).
The staff here is super friendly and went out of their way to pay attention to our dog.
There is an onsite restaurant, bar and business center. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub.
There was no safe in our room.
This is a great hotel for dog lovers and there is only a one time $ 50.00 pet fee for your entire stay!

Stayed here again and so loved the awesome service and sincere employees. All of them were really caring and helpful. This has become my home away from home in Charlottesville. Checkin was quick and painless. I even checked in online. The room was clean and comfortable. They have a shuttle service which was sooo convenient. This was the first time I didn’t rent a car and thanks to their free service I was so happy I didn’t feel trapped there.
I had their breakfast buffet, which was awesome and it had an omelette bar too. My waiter knew I was in a hurry and was kind enough to ask if I wanted my coffee in a to go cup.
Overall fantastic experience!

The rooms are clean and service is great, but I have to say, they could step it up in a few areas. First of all, there is no coffee onsite, and the coffee that is at catered events is super bitter/​burned flavored. This causes flocks of people at conferences to go offsite to the nearest Starbucks 1 – 2 times per day. They are really missing an opportunity by not having a coffee shop onsite. Also, there are only two elevators, and one is currently completely out of service (has been the last two days, and hasn’t managed to be repaired even though there is a big event here). This creates annoying backlog in the hallways and makes it difficult to travel to and from your room in a timely fashion. The elevator that does work is really jerky and makes me seasick, so I’m guessing both need to be replaced.

I had no choice in staying at this hotel. This hotel was booked by my company. Upon arrival, I waited about 5 minutes at the front desk (no biggie). I was quickly checked in and given a chocolate chip cookie (unfortunately it had nuts in it so I couldn’t enjoy it!). I arrived in my room and the heater was turned up. It was very toasty in the room. Again all of these things had very easy fixes and were just annoying, not troubling. What was troubling was when I pulled the sheets down on my bed. There were brown stains on the sheet– it did look like it had been washed but come on, toss them. Then there was black curly hair between the comforter and the sheet. I called the Careline and they said someone from Housekeeping would come up right away. It took about 15 minutes for the housekeeper to arrive. She was VERY apologetic, said she would find out who cleaned my room that morning, and would let the Manager know. She also found trash on the floor near the nightstand that I had missed. She also saw that the bed skirt was completely torn. She said she was embarrassed and apologized. She said she would speak to someone to get me a Food and Beverage credit. I ordered dinner from TJs and it was okay. The BBQ sandwich was good. The fruit that I ordered with it tasted like onions, it was gross. The next morning I had a paper under my door stating that I had no credit card on file but charged food to my room. I didn’t think it was a big deal because I had to check out the next morning. There was also a card under my door with my food and beverage credit. I ordered room service for breakfast. Again it was okay. I had pancakes, bacon, and chocolate milk. After the person dropped off the food, I received a phone call from the front desk saying that I didn’t have a credit card on file but charged food. I assured the woman that when I checked out it would be taken care of and I was leaving within the hour. Not 5 minutes after hanging up with her I received ANOTHER phone call from the restaurant saying that I didn’t have a credit card on file. I assured that person that it would be taken care of when I checked out because I had a food and dining credit. When I went to check out, I gave the card to the person at the front desk. She said that when the Manager came in she would apply the credit to my account. My credit card was then used to charge the remaining balance of my meals. Three days later, my husband was checking our bank account and saw that I was charged $ 50 and there was another $ 50 hold on my account. I immediately called and the person continued to tell me that the hold is done when you check in and I reminded her multiple times that they did not have my credit card to put the hold. It was used for the first and only time at check out for less than $ 5. She said that she would show the Manager when they arrived later that day and have them credit the $ 50 back to me and release the hold. The front desk person asked if I wanted a phone call back when it was taken care of and I said yes. Well, that phone call was made very early this morning and I still haven’t heard back (12 hours later). I will let my company know to not use this hotel again. The whole 13 hours I was there was a nightmare. We won’t be back.

If you are a dog owner this place is fantastic. My two dogs want to go back. Very friendly staff and excellent accommodations. Our room was on the first floor so my dogs did not have to ride the scary elevator. Also, we had a patio which was convenient for taking the dogs

The main lobby and amenities are ample but the room we had was not worth the price. The beds were comfortable but seemed small. The bathroom was small. The rest of the room was standard. Below what you expect in a $ 149 room. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast in their restaurant was standard fare. The food could have been warmer. Almost $ 15 per plate for the buffet seemed a bit pricey for what was offered.

This is the worst Hilton hotel I have ever stayed. The lobby is impressive but the room was far from good. The sink was broken, there was mold in the shower, and the ceiling paint was chipping. I booked a three day stay and checked out after the first night. Not worth the premium cost for a doubletree as you would expect.

Older hotel that has been updated, but still could use more updates to bring it into 2015. Rooms are clean. Beds are comfy.
Most hotels/​conference spaces tend to be on the cold side. This hotel tends to be on the warm side. Meeting rooms are fine, but kind of dingy.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were courteous and service-​oriented. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The restaurant had a great selection of dishes, even for my family with 2 picky eaters. And the rate we paid was lower than for a far inferior Inn we stayed at in Luray the night before! My 12 year old has made me promise we will use this hotel again in the future, and it wasn’t exactly hard to convince me. :-)

I got married at the Double Tree October 3^rd 2014. They forgot to serve my cake, and they didn’t even give out the party favors which was a bottle of wine per guest. The party planner /​wedding coordinator wanted me to get married in the rain and gave away my backup room to a group of sports fans. Needless to say I was married next to the bar where it was loud and surrounded by drunk sports fans. One year later I stayed for my one year anniversary, and the jacuzzi tub suctioned my back into the vent and gave me 2^nd degree burns and a bruised tailbone. They offered me an ice pack. After speaking to their insurance and claims department they said that it was my fault and they have done nothing wrong. I will never stay at the Doubletree Hotel again and I advise any visitors or Charlottesville residents not to stay there either.

Booked this hotel very late on a Saturday night after wrapping up a Spartan Race at Wintergreen Resort. We originally planned on making the 2.5 hour drive home but felt it would be unsafe to do so with how tired we were. This place was one of the few closest hotels that had rooms left that were non-​smoking. Service was very friendly. Room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom needed a new shower curtain, and the AC unit in the room wouldn’t stay on, but despite that it was a great night.
They have a $ 13 breakfast buffet but it is NOT worth it. We got there at 9 and it goes until 10:30 and it was very very picked over. The only good thing we ate was the omelettes but I don’t love paying for a $ 13 omelette.
Stay here, just don’t eat here.

Our family was staying one night on a visit to Charlottesville to see Monticello. We didn’t arrive until 9:30PM and left at 10AM the next day so only spent around 12 hours here. Our short stay here was quite pleasant and consistent with other positive Doubletree stays I’ve had. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive upon check-​in and when we ate in the pub TJ’s. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was located at the back of the hotel and was very quiet — until we were leahichving the next morning, we didn’t realize there was a Tiny Virginia Beauty Pageant happening at the hotel. The only quibble with the room was the tiny bathroom, but there was a second sink outside the bathroom so brushing teeth and getting for bed was not too bad for our family of 5. I’d certainly stay here again if in the Charlottesville area.

Decent price, fine hotel. Service was friendly and efficient. It seemed a tad dated but not offensively so. We enjoyed our stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Nothing bad per-​say about the hotel, the lobby is beautiful, there is a small pool, fitness center, they allow dogs for a one time $ 50 fee, restaurant and bar inside with room service and because I was a corporate employee with a company I received free breakfast (pretty good) during my stay.
The negatives as others have said is the noise that come in through the doors, my sink doesn’t drain, there is no fridge, microwave, or safe. I’d give it a 3.5, but since it has 3 stars now as an avg. I’m giving it 4.

I made reservations here several weeks in advance. A couple if days before check in, I got a VM saying other guests were checking out late, so I could not check in until 7:00 PM. No apology, no offer to compensate me for the inconvenience, nothing.
Since I am coming in from out of town, that would have been really inconvenient for me. I called to complain, got transferred to 3 different people and then a voicemail. I left a message, and no one ever got back to me.
Because of this, I cancelled my reservation.
If the hotel cared so little about customer service before I even arrived, I would hate to see what they are like at the actual hotel. Judging from the other Unilocal reviews here, I think I made the right choice.

Typically I don’t mind when people are having a festive evening in the room next door– but here, I can hear every word in the adjacent room. As the night carried on & the profanities & loud chatter escalated, I finally phoned the front desk. Someone else must have called too bc security came by 2x. Ugh.
Bring earplugs.

I would give this hotel 5 stars but the walls are incredibly thin and you can hear everything from crying toddlers to someone’s alarm to someone using the bathroom.
Now with that being said, the room itself is quite cozy. I had a great view of the mountains. I had a mini fridge. I also received my cookie when I checked in. I was also given vouchers for breakfast — which came in handy even though I had access to the 9^th floor lounge– sometimes an omelet is better than just self serve continental. Also in the evenings, if you have access to the 9^th floor, they offer a reception. The pool area is nice and clean. The gym is also very nice — weights, cardio equipment, ab equipment. The staff was always friendly. I enjoyed my stay :)
