I covered the restaurant as part of my review on the Holiday Inn since this is their restaurant. It is truly one if the worst meals my husband and I have ever had. It was late and we needed a bite since we were staying at the hotel. Man do I wish I had dug in to my Powerbars in my suitcase. Our server was super nice but the food was terrible — not fresh, everything frozen and flavorless. Eat something out of your suitcase… maybe eat your suitcase first.

They served me something I didn’t order because they no longer have the item I ordered. It wouldn’t have been so bad if they had let me know it wasn’t available instead of serving me something else. Aside from that, the waitress avoided my table because she knew that she screwed up. Don’t recommend this place at all.

Only three stars because we were not blown away and we have only had one meal here. First, you need to know this is a restaurant in a Holiday Inn hotel. Not that this is a bad thing but there it is. As you approach the hotel parking lot and the hotel lobby there is no indication or sign that a restaurant exists on the premises. I found this restaurant while browsing restaurants on Restaurant dot com because I had received a gift certificate code for that web site, otherwise I would never know this place exists. Second, this place is listed on the aforementioned web site as an Italian Restaurant and the online menu is not correct. We explained this to management and they said they are going to work to correct this and they were unaware of the incorrect info online. This is NOT an Italian restaurant. With that said; after we got over our disappointment that we were not going to be eating Italian fare, the meal we had pretty good. We ordered the special for that Saturday night which was a 10oz strip steak with five large shrimp placed on top for $ 20. The meal was served with two sides and hot rolls with butter. The rolls were good; the sides were pretty decent too. I have to give credit/kudos to the chef, in that he or she knows how to cook a steak and shrimp. I almost never order either when dining out because I cook both so well at home. Our steaks were cooked very much to our liking and the shrimp were cooked correctly. So many restaurants… especially those typically in a location like a mid grade hotel does not cook shrimp properly… but Charlotte’s got it right. The service was very friendly but slightly«unpolished». These are good olé local folks and are not very refined, but they are the nicest people and they really want and try to deliver high quality attentive service. Our waitress/server was under 21 and was clueless about the wine selections, except that the local red wines were on special at $ 3 a glass. She was a very sweet girl and tried very hard to do her job well… and all in all… she did. We will keep this place in mind for a good place to eat in Charlottesville when we want decent food and service and not fight the crowds. On the Saturday night we were there, only two other tables were seated, I don’t know how they make money other than they are part of the hotel. In an eating town like C’Ville, this can be a big bonus if you just want a good meal and get the heck out. The interior décor is not bad. There are big screen TV’s all over the place which is a little weird because they have a bar which would be the proper place for this, but the big TVs all over the walls in the seated restaurant are a bit distracting… yet entertaining at the same time. None were set to a loud volume, but they were set all to different TV channels, which can make for distraction if you want to have a conversation over your meal. Charlotte’s is a little local secret where you can get seated quickly, served quickly, treated well and the food is very respectable. Don’t look for a sign other than the Holiday Inn… even when you walk in the lobby you may have to take a few seconds to figure out where the restaurant is. They may change this after our visit, but for now inside knowledge is your friend :)
