Anna’s Ristorante & Pizzeria turns out to be the closest pizza place to my apartment, so one night we decided to give it a try. They have very limited pizza options, and it is definitely more of a traditional sit down Italian restaurant than take out pizza place. It was super hard to find a menu, so my friend and I ended up just driving there and ordering takeout on the spot. We arrived right before the end of a football game, and since the place is within walking distance from Scott Stadium, it filled up pretty quickly. I was flooded with nostalgia because the pizza tasted just like my grandmother’s used to. It’s decent pizza, but definitely not a traditional pizza place if that is what you are looking for.

We thought their pizza was delicious! Hot, fresh, thin crust. We will definitely go back!

Found this place on Unilocal — had to say a few words. Place doesn’t look like much(although it is clean:) but the food was great! Tried the stuffed mushrooms– delicious, and the pizza which had meat and veggies was very good– nice Italian sausage and thin-sliced peppers, etc. and very light on the sauce so the flavored really popped! Friendly service as well.

I was so disappointed by this place. I ordered a sicilian pizza with garlic added as a topping. First off, the pizza was 15 $, plus they charged 3.00 for the extra garlic. I was assuming it would be nice big cloves of garlic that were marinated or roasted on top, but it was maybe a tablespoon of raw chopped garlic over the whole pizza. The pizza was really dry so I can’t tell you how the sauce really was, and there was so little cheese on it. I lived in ny for 20 years, and this is not comparable to real ny pizza in any fashion, so I am surprised peoole compared it that way. Little ceasars deep dish is way better than this, and less than 1⁄3 the price.

After scouting out several other Italian restaurants, we happened upon Anna’s. For a Friday night, the was no wait and very few customers, which concerned us at first. However, there was nothing to fear. Our waitress was polite and prompted. The menu is typical Italian food and they sell pizza by the slice. My daughter demolished her slice of cheese pizza. My son wanted chicken tenders and plain pasta, which they made for him. My husband ordered the small Anna’s deluxe pizza, which had fresh ingredients. My order of tortellini with marinara was the special and it was delicious. Four big tortellinis stuffed with cheese and spinach smothered in sauce. Anna’s is definitely better than the surrounding neighborhood lead you to believe and a perfect spot on Friday night.

Very quaint, homemade style italian food! We got the Sicilian cheese pizza which had a very airy crust but was just a tad too salty Here are the hours because I couldn’t find them online: Monday-thursday: 11 – 10 Friday & Saturday: 11 – 11 Sunday: 10 – 10(I think)

Went in to pick up a couple pies I ordered by phone for take away. Place is big but was empty on a Sunday at 430PM. This slow night wasn’t due to the food. Food is great. Pizza was really nice NY style pizza with a good bright sauce, flavorful crust on the thinner side. Crust was well done even though I didn’t specify. Just like NY. The Pizzaiolo was speaking Italian, so it doesnt get more Authentic than this.

i love Anna’s Pizza. I always ask for it to be «well done» because I like a crispier crust, and when I order it this way, they make it just the way I like it! Ordering a «well done» pizza here gets you what ordering a regular cheese pie would get you in New York. A perfectly cooked thin undercrust that holds up nicely, cheese cooked to perfection, and an edge crust that has some good bite to it. Their eggplant parmesan subs are also excellent. If you want the closest thing to a New York local pizzeria experience in Charlottesville, Anna’s Pizza # 5 is it! This place is big, with tables that are easy to move and configure to accommodate a large family or group. It’s so relaxed, making it the perfect place to come with your kids’ sports team and families, or preschooler playgroup and families, etc. It’s a pizza joint, so you don’t feel bad that your kids are laughing a little too loud or constantly hopping up to go look at or put money in the jukebox. The jukebox song selections are the same as they were when I moved here 20 years ago, and that’s part of the charm! The owners and staff are friendly, old-school pizzeria people. The service is great, the food is consistent, and consistently good/great/excellent, depending on what you get, and it’s my favorite pizza place in town, hands down.(The salads are ho-hum, generic iceberg lettuce with a mealy tomato in it, but you don’t come to a place like this to order a great salad.) The only thing I wish they would change about this place is that they have a table next to the service area/cash register where the family/employees sit on break and watch a television. I really wish that the TV could be removed. I try to position my kids so that they don’t see the TV, and this place is big enough that you can usually find a table that is indeed far enough away so it’s not an issue. But that is my only suggestion. Everything else is just as it should be, and I hope Anna’s Pizza will remain in business forever! Yum!

Horrible service. Food is way overpriced for the quality. The owners are always yelling at their employees making it uncomfortable. Maybe the worst dining experience of my life. I have gone several times and have never been happy”

You won’t get much in the way of frills here, but the food is outstanding. The pizza is the best I’ve been able to find anywhere outside of New York

Great pizza, underrated entrees(chicken parmesan is to die for), and a wonderful family run atmosphere. Can’t recommend highly enough; always a must-have when I’m in Cville

Comfort pizza at its best. Friendly, homey service. A quick, cheap meal that doesn’t require hunting for parking on the Corner. The pizza is unassuming, but, for some reason, it tends to get people hooked. I recommend the cheese.

I have a soft spot for Anna’s. It’s a nice, laid-back place with consistently good pizza. Their ground beef pizza was always my favorite. The staff actually seems to be Italian, and if you have a big group it’s a great place to go.

I grew up in Charlottesville and although I left quite some time ago, any trip back was incomplete without an Anna’s meatball sub. No it’s not fine dining, yes it’s an easy-going neighborhood pizza/pasta place — know what to expect. It’s walking distance from UVA dorms and many college-type apartments, as well as being in the same strip mall as a laundromat(at one point). Would a fine dining place stay in business in that location? They had a juke box forever and ever — maybe it is still there. If you are in Charlottesville, pick up a couple of meatball subs from Anna’s some night and consider yourself fortunate.

A tastier alternative to Mellow Mushroom, Papa John’s and Domino’s for when you don’t need it delivered. Pros: –classic feel of a casual neighborhood pizza place –flavorful crust –standard toppings, including garlic –Italian spoken by much of the staff –pizza ready for pickup only 10 – 15 minutes after you call –you won’t look out of place showing up in your sweatpants Cons: –no delivery –atmosphere is not elegant or romantic

Convenient for JPA/Hereford dwellers. Food is okay, the flavor isn’t exciting and the dishes are simple. Way too pricey for the quality of food. It has a nice Italian family diner feel and is large so it’s ideal for a large crowd of drunks walking back from football games. But really, just walk a little further and eat at the Guad or Schnitzelhaus.
