The Secret Chocolatier

My coworker and I were displaced after our client’s building was evacuated. So, we walked across the street and found this little gem. Independently owned and operated this establishment offers up chocolate treats and caffeinated drinks.
I checked in on Unilocal and was able to redeem a coupon for a free brownie. WOW. And, WOW. It was so good that we immediately approached the counter and bought a bunch of chocolates and other goodies to take with us on the trip back to NoVA. Oh, and the coffee was great!

They have such a fantastic selection of delicious chocolates to choose from. I always get my host/​hostess gifts there. They put together such pretty, individualized boxes of truffles and bon bons. While you’re there, get a cup of locally roasted Magnolia coffee. It is out of this world.

Great little place to pick up some chocolates. Some of them were very very tasty. Would recommend for sure.

I don’t know why anyone would want to go to Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or any other commercial coffee shop when there’s a place like this in charlotte! I went here for the first time to get a cup of coffee but I ended walking put with a mocha latte. I’m not a fan of overly sugary coffee drinks but the owner cut back on the sweetness to adjust to my palate. It was the right amount of sweetness and coffee. Everything fr there syrups to the chocolate to the coffee beans are either made at the shop or used by a native vendor of charlotte. They also offer an array of classes that I have not seen offered at other coffee shops. I’m all about buy local and help those businesses in charlotte. This place is awesome and I recommend checking it out. Also, check in on Unilocal to get a free piece of chocolate. Enjoy this place with a couple of friends, a date, book club or just solo. Delish!

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I went here for their Unilocal opening and was blown away. I haven’t been able to pop in as much as I’d like, but each time I do I’m never disappointed. The Mexican cinnamon, cardamom, and chai tea chocolates are amazing.
You must try this place. The owners are super sweet and if you work in the Ballantyne Corporate Park, you’ll get 2 chocolates for free! Suh-​weet!

Best. Chocolate. Ever. I have bought SC truffles for gifts many times and tasted many of their confections. The flavoring in the truffles is delicate, inventive and allows the chocolate to retain center stage, without overpowering it. So hard to choose from the many varieties and sometimes the best ones are the ones you would least expect. Who knew that basil or Earl Gray would make a delicious truffle? As the Christmas season starts, I’m far away so I can’t enjoy them myself but I will be sending some for sure. My only complaint is that Godiva holds no appeal for me anymore,

Okay, I love this place. It’s my secret getaway when someone on my team has a tough day at work or just really wants to get out of the office. I’m apprehensive to even share this because I want to keep the Secret Chocolatier just that — my secret. But as a loyal Unilocaler it is my duty to share my food secrets. And this is a big one.
It’s coffee, tea, chocolate and smiles. The location is tucked away, it’s never crowded and the chocolate and coffee blows any other coffee shop out of the water.
They also do classes (truffle making, wine paring, chocolate bark making, etc.).
Best bonbons? EASY — Bananas Foster and Dark Chocolate Caramel Peanut.
Plus — if you check in on Unilocal you get a free confection. It’s a win win.

Here earlier for Chocolate Bark Making Class with Dining with the Girls meet-​up group. Great class, who knew how temperamental when it comes to making chocolate. Robin, our instructor gave us the history of cocoa and cocoa beans. We got to made a Chocolate Bark. Got my chocolate fix after class with a large latte and a truffle/​Bön Bön.

One thing for sure this place is secret. I stumble upon it by an accident, attending other business in the area. It was so delightful. I had their chocolate marshmallows, Yam. There is small area to sit down an have it a cub of coffee, which is a nice touch. Nice to have this kind of a decadent spot in Charlotte.

This review is coming from a girl who doesn’t even like chocolate that much. There was a huge variety of flavors of truffles, I had a hard time choosing! I saw chai tea, earl grey, sea salt caramel, coconut, just to name a few.
The one I would recommend is: SWEET TEA w/​LEMON CURD bonbon. Ok, I’m being a bit dramatic with putting that in all caps, but it was so good! Who would’ve thought to make chocolate sweet tea flavored… and have it actually taste like the real thing.
Each truffle or Bön Bön is $ 2.25. It’s definitely not cheap, but very worth it. Besides truffles, they have other confections and expresso. Check in to the establishment and get a free confection!

The truffles are to die for. Tried Basil, Stonegtound, Peanut Butter Caramel, and Chili Pepper just standing there trying to decide which ones to gift. Awesome & Decadent, just the way I like it!

Very good! It could have been better for the price– peanut butter ball needs more salty peanut flavor; but for the price, could have been a notch better. Still great tho! Free dessert with Unilocal

Yum yum yum!!! Great unique chocolate flavors. I was there for an event. Wine pairings and chocolate, would love to do that again. The chocolate quality was great. Will be back soon. Pricey but worth it! Treat yourself, you deserve it!

This is cute little shop with the most delicious treats! They had cake by the slice available as well as chocolates! I tried several of the truffles and a caramel. This place did not disappoint.
They also had several options for organic chocolate bars. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Two words, Jar Cake. That’s all you need to know. Seriously the coolest owners and best tasting chocolate around!

I believe I posted a very thorough review of this wonderful «Mom and Pops» business for the related Unilocal Elite Event. But, I have since gone back and had them make me a gorgeous set of 3 Chocolate Flowers for a lady that I WAS seeing (got dumped yet again… boo hoo hoo). But at the time I was SOOOO excited to get these made because as you can see in my picture, these came out absolutely gorgeous! There is an incredible amount of craftmanship that goes into these pieces of art, so that’s why they cost $ 15/​each, and let me tell you that they are SO worth it!
They can make them ANY color you want… so you guys out there. IF you want to do something special for a SPECIAL lady, get some Chocolate roses made here or at their new Ballentyne location.
And their TRUFFLES and BON BONs. OMG!!! They are incredible! Sure they have your standard hand-​made Truffles and Bön Bons, BUT they also have some experimental flavors and unique chocolate combinations that will tickle your taste buds for sure. Like their White Chocolate Cardomom with Orange Zest that is really unique. I believe they won some award for this one.
But to me, I just LOVE their dark chocolate Truffles. I’m a chocoholic so I go for the gusto!
And everyone in the store is super nice, knowledgeable and patient. They have lots of choices in the shop including other «gourmet» chocolates that are brought in from other high quality suppliers.
All in all this is really a fantastic shop that provides you with premium chocolates at reasonable prices given the quality of the product.
HIGHLY recommended!

A few days after the Unilocal event, I had no choice but to return to the Secret and get some more goodies. It’s not cheap but it IS great. I got some toffee candies and some dark chocolate cherry bark and a small box of truffles. Really top notch chocolate treats!

What a great local shop! Support local small business and get delectable treats at the same time. Whether dessert after dinner or gifts for others this place offers a near selection of confections. I like that they add a variety of things to the truffles and bark like cardamom. I didn’t try the cinnamon roll truffle but I will be back for that in short order.

Delicious and beautiful handmade chocolates that are unique. Friendly and courteous staff — love the local entrepreneur vibe and also the coffees are delish!

Secret Chocolatier Ballantyne location is in the old Think Chocolate space! Nice looking! If you like the Original Secret Chocolatier you will Love this Place! Chocolates taste just like the other location, so you can be assured they are consistent in flavor! Tables to sit and enjoy! Tables and Chairs Inside and Outside! More Convenient Parking too!
Hot Chocolate like Hot Sipping Chocolate Truffle! This is what I enjoyed the most about this place!
