H&R Block

We came in today to take advantage of the 50% off tax filing promotion at 2:15PM (our scheduled appointment time). We’re asked to wait while one of the four tax preparers (none with customers) carried on a loud telephone conversation. I joked with my wife «we must be waiting on him», of course that was the case! James Kellum had a serious issue with the 50% discount which I assume cuts into his commission because he only reminded us of it every 2 minutes or so. Most of the appointment was consumed by him pecking at the keyboard struggling to perform basic data entry. He was tasked to ask about expenses due to one of my wife’s jobs and this opened the can of worms. I asked him why we haven’t inquired about my expenses which were significant and I was told in a round about way that I was getting such a cheap rate there was only so much he was willing to do and dismissively continued checking boxes so I called him on it again. He continued to make excuses and refused to do it! He accused us of being late, hence the phone detail, told us we were out of time, the pecker and of not having the receipts, I told him I have receipts and can justify X amount if audited, as if Mr. No Time would go through my shoe box of yearly receipts. Once he was exhausted of lies and excuses he ignored me completely, even eye contact and asked my wife’s permission to continue. I was completely flabbergasted and bewildered! I had no idea if I should make a scene or walk out? I was in shock honestly and I still am. He had a customer waiting on him as we paid the cashier at front so this was his returning personal client as the other preparers were still customer less which explains why he wanted to get rid of the 50% off clients. I will take my time next year and file my own taxes, as we’ve all seen over the past years I’m basically paying someone to type my w2 into turbotax. I suppose I can’t complain too much because I could have walked away even though the amount of money on the return would have been more vs the discount. I really just wanted to get it over with cause who wants to file their taxes twice in a day. I just hate the fact someone tells you something can’t be done because the don’t have the time or are simply too lazy to make the effort especially because you took advantage of a promotion their company offered!
