Service was good and the recipe cards were helpful for someone who hasn’t been there before and isn’t sure what to put in their bowl!

I was at this location last night, and everything was right: customer service, amazing; cleanliness, you can eat anywhere here; food, perfect! They have the friendliest staff, and the most awesome food! It’s located at a very accessible corner when going through Ballantyne. I’d recommend this place to anyone; they have a bit of anything and everything anyone could want to eat!

Visiting Charlotte once again on business. Our client suggested GG for lunch and we obliged of course. Located in a business park among other food establishments, this place offers a spin on stir fry where you«build your own bowl». You pick a bowl(S, M or L) and stuff it with as much raw meat and veggies before everything hits the cooktop grill. I opted for the medium size bowl and in hindsight I think the small size bowl would have been fine. The peach lemonade I ordered was a hit! Here’s a tip: fill your bowl with veggies *first* and then drop the meat in. You’ll get maximum density that way since the veggies tend to topple off if you put meat into the bowl first. Trust me! This works… You have your choice of accompanying starch with rice, noodles or pasta and I chose the noodles. You drop your bowl off at the cooktop grill and in ten minutes or so you’ll be feasting. Not ACYE, but it’s good value at lunch time!

This place should be great. It is a chain and I’ve eaten at other ones — but this place is just to busy and poorly run. The service is sporadic and the erratic. The proteins in the food bar were frozen. The kitchen keeps the restaurant open and maybe on slow nights this place is still a go to for midweek ethnic food — but on weekends stay away. We got our appetizer after our entrée.

This is a great concept, build your own hibachi. However, I wish that they had a wall with suggestions on how to build classic Asian dishes. I think that would help a lot of guests. I think the lunch prices are more like dinner prices and I would never come for dinner– too expensive for what it is.

Giving a 2nd update, and I have to downgrade again. And I would tell you not to even give this place a chance. Went here for a birthday; not by choice. Prices are rising for the bowls. Even with a water, you can’t get a normal sized bowl and walk out for less than $ 15(when adding in tip). At that price, you shouldn’t be serving up frozen meat. Genghis Grill has slowly lost customers at this location and the lower food quality is why. I used to be a loyal patron 4 years ago but they cut corners on the food. Do not waste your time here unless you want to pay $ 15 for frozen chicken.

Went today for lunch for the first time. I was very surprised how good and different their food was. Service was great. I had a salad with chicken on it and it was very very tasty. I forget what it was called but it was the first one of there 2 salads they offer on the menu. My girl made up her own bowl and she said it was very good. Try their bread ap it has shrimp on it and comes with a tasty dipping sauce. Very good and we will be back.

I like the meat and the sauce but the noodle was horrible, it tasted doughy and rawish. They gave you a large bowl but it’s slanted so they only filled half of it. It’s overpriced.

Really delicious food! I piled mine up high and it’s awesome because you get to have different types of meat at the same time! I’m not into veggies so got to add extra meat at no extra cost which is a plus in my books. Only drawback is that you can only go once Ask for eggs if you want them in your rice because they don’t have them on he menu! Sitting is also a bit tight with seats close to one another and only a few of them, so avoid peak times if you can!

My boyfriend keeps raving about this place, so we decided to try it out together the next time we were in Charlotte. I have to say I really like this place. The people were very nice and accommodating. The food was good. I had a veggie udon noodle meal with ton of spices and their garlic and crush pepper sauce. I really like the sauce. The way they cook the food is cool. They use two huge sticks that looks like huge chopsticks to mix it together. I would so go here again.

Great Mongolian food, fresh and quick. Please make sure you try the kale & veggie potstickers… they were to die for and I probably could have eaten two orders by myself. The food is plenty, I got the large bowl but I think medium/regular would have been enough since I couldn’t finish my bowl. The best part is choosing your own meat, veggies, and sauces… pretty cool.

I’ve been here twice. The first time was great and I had a good time the second time I ate there, too, but afterwards when I got home that night and into the next day and a half was not so pleasant. I’m guessing there was some cross contamination from the raw chicken, because the spoon/tongs for the chicken was wet and the raw chicken water was all over the place. I am servsafe certified and I know a dangerous situation when I see it. I washed my hands after filling my bowl and giving it to the cooks, but it wasn’t enough. I definitely had a light case of food poisoning. I haven’t been back since. I still give them the 3 stars though because it tasted good and the staff is friendly. I really doubt that a situation like mine happens often, but once was enough for me. I think of them every time I open a package of raw chicken now.

The whole concept was pretty neat. The things I did like about our visit was our server Anna and the food was aright. Other than that the raw food that you get yourself before its being cooked looks utterly disgusting the way it was put out. My husband had to convince me otherwise. But I don’t think it was fresh. The whole time we were there the workers or I guess«food runners» we’re running around the whole restaurant coming to everyones table with other people’s food. It was kind of annoying because most of them looked completely clueless and kept bringing other customers food to us. We ordered 2 appetizers the Asian guacamole and the pot stickers. We got the guacamole at a reasonable timing but we didn’t receive our pot stickers until 15 mins after our stir fry came out. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re getting take out.

Love the restaurant but sometimes hate seating. I feel like I’m right next to the other table. I like how they give bowl options now. Food bar is clean. There is always someone cleaning up. Lots of options. I always get udon noodles. Don’t forget to ask for eggs!

I have been here multiple times and have tried so hard to like this restaurant. The concept is cool, fill up a bowl with raw items of your choosing, add a sauce and then pick a starch. Try as I might, I have yet to find a winning combination. All of the sauces are so sweet, and while I normally like sweet things, they do not satisfy. The service is adequate and the atmosphere is pleasant, but without liking the food, I am unlikely to return(unless others make me).

Love the food here but the price is ridiculous. First things first, the food is extremely delicious. They have a wonderful variety of options and I never EVER leave dissatisfied with what I ate. My only issue with them is the price; which is the only reason they don’t get 5 stars. That being said, you can take food home with you so as long as you pile your dish sky high(my recommendation, use the sugar snap peas to form a wall giving you a few extra inches of piling room) then you can get your money’s worth. And like I said, the food is delicious so really that’s all that matters.

Pretty standard chain-quality fare. This concept popped up 20 years ago and wins at what it is: the kids have a fun time picking out their ingredients. It would get old if overdone, but as a once-in-a-while stop it is fun. Service can be pretty erratic.

My family is obsessed with this place! Servers are always great(although they don’t have to do a lot since you are the one making the food)! Vegetables and proteins always look really fresh and there’s a really great variety. There are about a billion sauce options, but I think the 3G sauce is the best(it’s got a good kick)! Also, consider getting the udon noodles as your starch; they are so good!

The food here is very good. The service is very poor. I’ve never, ever, seen so many employees doing so little in a restaurant this size before. I’ve dined there or attemped to dine there twice. On one occasion I went for lunch on a week day. The place was fairly busy but there seemed to be plenty of employees in Genghis shirts milling around. It was hard to tell what they were doing and many didn’t seem to do much. Our waitress was moderately attentive but the food was good. On a more recent visit we went for a late lunch on a Thursday. When we walked in there was a lot of staff either standing around doing little or sort of milling around. There were about a dozen customers and slightly more staff. The bartender was away from the bar and was talking to the receptionist. We clearly interrupted an important discussion. As it was late we thought we could get in, get fairly quick service, and get out. We never saw our waiter or waitress. After some time watching employees mill around(not doing much) and trying to guess who our waiter or waitress would be, we still had no water and no orders taken. In fact, there had been no contact since the hostess seated us. We got up and left and once again interrupted the bartender and hostess who thanked us for coming. We thanked her and then my wife mentioned that we’d had nothing. Suddenly she remembered who we were and turned to look at the booth she’d seated us. However, like everyone else she made no effort to make certain our needs were met, she just shrugged and off we went.

Oh how I love this place! I’ve been too many times to count on my lunch break. The service is always great! Theres not much for them to do though. Aside from refilling your drink and bringing appetizers to your table if you choose to order them. But they are really helpful and friendly. When you walk in, you are seated immediately. You will place your drink orders and grab a card in the center of the table and head to create your bowl. They do have bowl suggestions. You can grab a card and use it as a reference in creating your bowl. Thats if you want to stay on the safe side. But you can also create your own from start to finish. How it turns out is entirely dependant on you! Don’t be afraid to pack your bowl to capacity! Trust me, you won’t be alone. Once you tell them what size bowl you’d like, you 1st select your proteins. They have a wide selection of meats. Some are even marinated. I always pack my bowl with proteins. Its more important than veggies! lol! Next is the seasonings. I prefer to season each of my meats differently, so i’m always back and forth between the sections for each of my proteins. Then you have your veggies. They have just about everything! I’m always packing in my veggies because i’ve already filled most of my bowl up with meats. Sometimes there’s overflow on my tray but they’ll go ahead and cook it as long as it doesn’t get out of control. Then you have your sauces. They have tasting spoons at the beginning of the section. Once you start tasting sauces theres so many to choose from and they are all good so its hard to decide. You’ll want to add a mix of all but dont do it! Be conscious of how they will combine. It really affects how your bowl will turn out. Make sure to discard your tasting spoon at the end of the station in the trash. Then you head to the grill where you choose your starch. People don’t know this but you can choose 2 starches! I always get Fried Rice & Tortillas. I don’t like when my rice is mixed in my bowl so I always get it on the side. They can also cook your rice with an egg. You’ll need to let them know this at the grill. They’ll then give you a number to place at your table. Theres hand wipes and nuts as well at the grill. I always grab a couple of togo sauce cups and head back to get me a couple sauces to dip and add to my bowl as I eat. Also, if you ask the server they can bring you cheese and sour cream for your tortillas. They cook the bowls really quick so it won’t be longer than a 10 minute wait for your bowl and they’ll bring it to your table. Even when my bowl doesn’t come out exactly how I like, I just love it anyway. Because its never horrible. Its fun also, to be able to make your own bowl and experiment each time you go to see what works and what doesn’t. No complaints with this place.

I’ve been to Genghi’s Grill 3 times now and the service here is always great. By that I mean the servers are extremely friendly, and always prompt with your beverage refills. They really don’t have too much to do in most cases since this is a true Mongolian style BBQ restaurant where you go up yourself to select your food before delivering it to the grill cooks. Your food can taste anywhere from mediocre at best, to outstanding … and it all depends on you. That’s the beauty of this place. You select everything in your ‘bowl’ so you can truly create exactly what you want. You start with selection your proteins/meats: there are about 15 choices ranging from chicken to pepperoni to scallops, and anything in between. Next you hit the seasoning station where you can jazz up the meat however you like. Then you hit the veggie station. Again, choices are almost endless here. You end the line up by picking what you’d like to flavor your meal with, with about 12 – 15 sauce choices. They’re all awesome, but I personally like ½ ginger citrus & ½ island teriyaki. Maybe splashed with some honey soy. Walk it all over to the grill where you select your ‘starch’ from white or fried rice, udon noodles, spiral pasta or tortilla wraps. It’s very easy to ‘over do-it’ with your bowl because everything sounds good. Be careful not to mix too many flavors or you’ll end up with a disappointing meal!

Before this trip I had only been to Genghis grill one time and that time had been pretty good. The food was pretty good this time BUT its what happened AFTER that makes me give them one star, actually they should get no star. I GOTFOODPOISONINGFROMEATINGATGENGHISGRILL. And let me tell you, being violently ill for a day, I could go into detail, about the stomach discomfort, the sweats, the chills, the involuntary emptying of my stomach over and over. And then there was the one time… I wont go into detail. It was just awful. No one should have to go through that. And my dinner was very costly as it cost me a whole day of work. I could not work, I could only lay on the couch. And yes I did lose some weight, but what a way to do it! Hey Genghis Grill, make sure you take better care of all that food that is sitting around. I’m sure I was not the only one who got sick yesterday. But I can sure warn others. There is NO way I will every eat there again.

The concept is neat, making your own stir fry with the exact ingredients you want in the exact amounts you choose, but it’s not my favorite place to go for Asian food. First of all, I’m not sure how much I like choosing everything on my own. The ingredients are set out like a buffet with everything from meat, to veggies, to the sauce waiting for you to pick them. This can be overwhelming, especially if you aren’t sure what you want or which combination would taste good. They do have a few recipe cards that you can use as a guide, but they only provide you with a few ideas, most of which aren’t appealing to me. When I create my own bowl, it always tastes okay, but I’m left wondering what I could have done to make it taste better. Maybe some extra seasoning or a different veggie would have balanced the flavors more? Unfortunately, unless you get the unlimited bowl option, you only have one shot to get it right. Second of all, as with all buffets, you question the cleanliness. I think this is even more of a concern for me as they have all the raw meat laying out there in the open. It makes me wonder if there’s any cross contamination going on, or if someone sneezed all over the food. I’m sure it is probably kept clean, but I’m one of those people who worries about that type of thing. Also, I don’t find heaps of raw meat that appetizing, but it probably doesn’t bother most people. My last point is, I’m always wondering why they chose to have waitstaff that you are expected to tip. Since you do most of the work yourself, choose the ingredients, fill up your own bowl, and bring your bowl to the grill guys, there really isn’t much left for the waitstaff to do. I know they bring drinks and appetizers if you choose to order them, but it seems like this place should work more like a Smashburger or a Panera Bread where the style is more counter service. Overall, I like it okay. I’ll eat here if someone suggests it, but it’s not someplace I think about going to on my own.

Tasty new way to enjoy stirfry You know the feeling you get when you crave asian food, but don’t want to order chinese takeout or get sushi? Well, Genghis grill is a perfect fix for any asian food cravings. You get any choice of meat, spices, veggies and sauce you could think of, and its all prepared fresh for you personally on a giant cast iron grill. If you are vegetarian you have the option to mix tofu and veggies and have it cooked on a separate grill in the kitchen to avoid cross contamination with other meats. The same works for any food allergies. My only complaint is I wish that they had someone to portion out the uncooked meat at the beginning of the bar leading up to the grill. I was a little worried about possibly getting raw meat on my hands from the tongs.

Genghis Grill is a great idea I wish we had one in NY! I love the idea of making your own bowl and making it whatever you want it to be from the different meats, vegetables, spice, sauces, and starch you want. For people who have trouble making choices they have cards you can follow to help you. The food was very fresh and they cooked well. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves any kind of stir fry. The combinations are endless! Price is very good too! The place was very clean and I like the building. One thing I wasn’t sure of was if they have wifi.

I went here with some coworkers for lunch. Some of them raved about the place and the concept and I had to experience it for myself. You are seated first and your server takes your drink order. She then asks if anyone is new and then takes you over to the buffet and explains everything to you. You have a bowl that you fill with your proteins of choice, spices, veggies and sauces. Then you take it up to the counter and order your starch and you get a number. They cook your order on a round grill and then bring it out to you. Pretty simple really. The hard part is perfecting your own recipe. There are a few recipe cards available to use as a guide. You can also check their website beforehand to get ideas. The selections for your bowl are extensive. For proteins you have everything from beef and chicken to calamari and pepperoni. Pepperoni? lol. Must be for the kids. Spice and sauce mixtures range from teryaki to curry and veggies consist of everything under the sun. This is a chain restaurant that everyone should try at least once. I need to go back and perfect my recipe.
