Founders Federal Credit Union

I have been banking with Federal for over 20 years. The previous location (off Westinghouse) closed and I was excited for this new location which is closer to work. I went in to set up online banking and the lady in the office was SUPER helpful. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit, I was disappointed to see that some of the DMV-​like surly attitude that I used to experience at the old location still exists. Some of the tellers (this time was the drive-​through) just don’t seem friendly or even happy to see customers. A smile, a «Hello, how are you today?» or even a «Thank you. Have a nice day.» seem to be too much effort. During my last visit, they weren’t even busy. I understand their jobs might be stressful, but this is a customer service business.
Services/​rates offered are good. People skills are hit or miss. The more «experienced» ladies especially could use a refresher course in customer service with a smile.

I wanted to share my experience with Founders in an effort to warn others of what to expect.
I visited Founders a few days after I bought my house. I needed to begin a new banking relationship in my new neighborhood and thought Founders might fit the bill. The inside was lovely and new, but the conversation felt like it was right out of 1950.
I knew credit unions had some requirements, but I was shocked when I was point blank asked what church I attended. Then I was asked what neighborhood I lived in to see if my new homeowners association was on their list of acceptable applicants. Wow. I felt sure the next statement was going to be something about me not being able to open an account without my husband being there — LOL… I mean, this isn’t 1950, and those questions felt SO antiquated and out of date to me.
After hearing that this is how they conduct business at Founders, I was happy to leave and give my business to Truliant. Maybe these questions aren’t surprising to other people, but they definitely caught me off guard and set a negative tone for me.

Went there to get an add on to an existing loan– Harry took care of me right away with the preliminary information and then sent me to the lobby to wait. I did not have to wait long before Brian came out and called me into his office– VERY EFFICIENT– VERY FRIENDLY-​VERY PERSONABLE. Normally I call and do loans and business over the phone but these 2 guys make me WANT to drive the 30 min to this location. Hard to find friendly help these days and these guys excited PERFECTLY– well done !

Went in today to meet an individual who banks with them to get an auto loan for my vehicle. Staff seemed to be pretty nice and courteous and got it done in a reasonable amount of time. I walked out of there with the payoff amount of my vehicle and my buddy left with my keys in his hand. Quick. Simple. Painless.

Fast, friendly and great are the words I can describe Founders. They are a great place to bank with. I have been with them since 2011. They call you when they see unusual charges to your account. Forget BB&T, Bank of America or Wells Fargo. This place is the ideal place to handle your cash.
