I’m all for a family-owned business. I wish them the best of luck. The problem is that sometimes it seems that they just don’t take things seriously, and when that happens I hate it. I absolutely hate it. For instance, when I’m looking to have the gutters fixed on the house, and I’ve already waited a month or more for someone else, and I turn to a company who hears the story and says they will be out the next day and… does nothing. To be fair, that isn’t exactly true. I called Deaton to have them come out when it was apparent that I needed to find a replacement gutter company, and they seemed anxious to check out the problem. So we made an appointment. And the only thing that happened was that about a week after the appointment, they called to see if they could come out. When they did eventually come out, they did call to say they were there, knock on the door or anything — they just started measuring. No introduction, no handshake, nada. Eventually their estimate came in, and then a flood of phone calls and emails to ask if we received it. But ultimately we went elsewhere. It’s like the companies just don’t understand what an appointment means or even how to communicate. If I make the time to schedule an appointment and they don’t keep the appointment, it takes time out of my schedule. I can completely understand if you have a problem, but at least have the courtesy to call — don’t just call a week later and ask if I still need your services, then wonder why I am not interested. That’s insane.
