[redneck voice]Transporter show? What the heck is a transporter? Like them kind they have on Star Track?[/redneck voice] Unfortunately, no. Most people would probably call these transporters a «bus» in the same way that they call a «beetle» a «bug», and by now you may have figured out that we are talking about Volkswagens. This particular show is put on each year by the Piedmont Transporter Owners, a group that meets each month to hang out and talk about their aging fleet of vehicles, as the vehicles they promote are only from the late 1960s. Yes, they are pushing fifty years old. The vehicles, not necessarily the owners. Does that mean you cannot be a fan of later models and attend? Certainly not. There are newer models participating in the show and in the crowd, and there were also some beetles and even a VW thing(safari/trekker/type 181) in attendance. You may even find parts, but most were in fairly bad shape. If you have ever caught Desert Car Kings on Discovery and found yourself comparing them to the likes of Barrett Jackson, the difference between those two would be as vast as the difference between the McClures and this bunch. Unless you are a hardcore VW enthusiast, it is probably best to consider this a stopover on your way to Mattie’s(the event was held most recently in the parking lot next to the diner). Otherwise there is not much to see here.
