This your stereotypical upscale night club, complete with a red carpet, where they ask you to stand in line for 30 minutes unless you are on the list. And yes, we did wait in line for 30 minutes even though there weren’t that many VIPs… but I guess we helped them look good. Despite the wait, I did enjoy Butter’s posh chandeliers, a grand spiral stairway that led you to the dimly lit dance floor. The dreamy lights and atmosphere gave you an impression of a movie set. The stairway that led you to the dance floor downstairs reminded of one of my favorite clubs in Beijing called Mix, where they have three stories of dance floors. Their music is heavy on the hip pop and rap. They didn’t play many Billboard Top 100 songs, it’s less main stream music. Like other nightclubs, people dress up, but much more classily at Butter compared to others. It was fun to people watch here, too.

Who in the frak is exclusive in Charlotte?! This place obviously. I was here with two of my girl friends and we got denied. Now, I’m realistic… clubs can be selective. We were dressed right and we’re an attractive bunch… I mean, we’ve been able to get into LIV Miami with no cover… I’d say for clubs, that’s an accomplishment ahaha! But when we got to the door, the(rude might I add) doorman stated that he’s only letting in VIP/table service. This was right after a concert… before midnight… are you kidding!?! Then, quick as a mouse, a chick in jeans a t shirt and TENNISSHOES scurries right past us as the doorman let her in. Some list, man. Must’ve been a special teen night. Anyways, I just didn’t like how they handled things. If that VIP/Table thing was legit, they should’ve told us prior to letting us stand there like idiots for 15 minutes until they finally acknowledged our existence… Which he never was able to look me in the eyes when I was speaking to him. Rude! Still trying to figure out when Charlotte became exclusive… LOL

OMG!(Oustanding, Mind Blowing, Great!) Butter is freaking awesome! It has two level so when first walk into the club it may seem small but it’s quite big. The bouncer is soo nice like Suite! What about their musics? Their music is great too, a bit different but good! Now, how about the décor? Butter did a phenomenal job on their décor! It look so luxurious and cool! However, the age range that go to Butter is aproximately 20 and up, which is awesome for me, since their wouldn’t be too many teens there. Other than that, Butter has finally made on to my list of favorite clubs! :D

If you love dancing — this is the place for that. If you want to get drunk cheaply, if you don’t dance, if you want a quiet place to talk, if you hate bottle service — this is not the place for you. Every time I go, I have a great time dancing. The place is beautiful, well-maintained, clean, and the crowd is generally fun. :) Saturday nights seem packed, Friday nights seem to be a good level of crowded.

After giving this place a 5 star rating, I will back off a bit and say that my night there was 5 stars… The club itself, though? Empty. 15 people there. Maybe. Did we have a BALL anyway? You bet! I could have fun here just looking around. Love the velvet wallpaper, the chandeliers, the staircase, the bench seating… The décor here is right up my alley. Had a great night. Will return soon.

If you can get in without standing in line or paying cover, go check it out. Or if someone’s buying bottles. Otherwise, not worth your money.

Yeah, nothing distinguishing about this place from the other night clubs in Charlotte in my opinion. It’s decently adorned with leather lounge areas and a little more upscale I’d say than some of the other clubs… Pheonix, etc. My girlfriend and I popped in here after an event the othernight otherwise I probably wouldn’t have went. The DJ was good though and kept the crowd moving.

I like style and I like modern. Add in valet, VIP tables, and ropped off lines and one can get a little«bigger city» feel at a place like this. Do folks still dress a tad cheesy? Yes, but the beats are be great from the DJ and the people watching is grand. We all have to club from time to time… if you have to do it in the Queen city… do it here.

Wannabe Miami South Beach nightclub — but alittle too discriminating for my taste. I am taking off one star because both nights I was there I witnessed what I felt was unfair racial and gender profiling. Women and minorities in particular couldn’t get in unless they were dressed to kill, but White males got in with flip flops and cargo shorts. Wtf? I preferred the top level with adult slow jams. Lower level got a little too crowded for my taste. .. a fight broke out. Kudos to the security staff for breaking it up asap.

I am just not a club-kid. So to be fair– I roll my eyes at ridiculous cover charges my friends were forced to pay and felt annoyed when the Birthday girl had to gravel to get two of our male friends in(even though we were with a large group of women– and everyone was dressed appropriately). We knew someone who knew someone so luckily a few of us did not pay cover– including the Bday girl… so this was a plus. Friday night cover was $ 10. The club itself is nice– sort of reminded me of an underground theater type thing. Picture lush pinks/reds and velvet walls. The venue was filled — and not with magnificent looking specimens as some may have you believe… they were just people who foolishly shelled out cash to sit on the sidelines and watch people dance. I being one of the non VIP people just danced the night away with my group, so overall I did have fun– and it was a great bday spot if you have a big group to hang out with… but we could have had fun just about anywhere we went.

Hmmm, so imma give it to you straight. Read the reviews and heard so much about how hard it is to get up in there if you’re a dude, especially one of color such as myself, so I usually scratched this spot off as an option when choosing somewhere to go out. Even with all the negative things I’ve heard about it, people always said it is a nice spot. I’m from NYC originally, so I know what an elite nightclub is like. So, I’m curious, I wanted to know what the hype is all about, so I played the game. Get all decked out in clothing that was so good, there was no way in hell I could be turned down because of what I was wearing. So that one was eliminated. Didn’t go with any of my guy friends, since I already heard about all the madness. So what did I do? Got a call about going out to Butter and it was gonna be six females and one guy(one of their husbands)…they were all Caucasian, FYI(sometimes, you just gotta accept things for how they are). I walked up with four girls on my arm, looking like I could’ve been a celebrity(I am 6’5 with an athletic build, so I look like I could be a local athlete). Anyways, no trouble at the door, but we also came early too… around 9:45−10pm. I believe I paid $ 10 bucks. They had a coat check as soon as you walked in. The place was definitely decked out and looked like a NYC spot. Went downstairs and it wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. The music was on point and the night I was there, it was Brotha Fred’s(96.1 the Beat, radio personality) birthday party in one of the VIP sections. The people there were definitely on the upper end, dressed pretty well, but were very pretentious… the«my daddy bought my 3 series BMW/Audi A4 girls», The Saab 9 – 3 driving dudes that are IT’s/Engineers during the week that are normally socially awkward, «but since i’m in an upscale establishment, i’m automatically cool now». That’s fine with me though b/c I’d rather hang around them than people that are all about starting fights because somebody stepped on their shoe by accident. The other downfall is there is more area for VIP than for regular patrons. I know that’s how they make their money, but everybody isn’t on baller status. Basically, there was little space for non VIP patrons to hang out. They have pretty good security around, so you’d definitely feel safe, that’s for sure. They look like security too… lol. Overall, I like the spot and I’m writing this review based off the one time that I went there. I didn’t experience anything at the door, but I was well prepared before I went and played the game. Not to say it couldn’t happen to me, but If it does, I’d be sure to revise my review based off that experience. Would definitely check it out again.

Two female friends from Charlotte and me get a town car at the Omni Hotel where I stayed during my visit and head to Butter. It was raining this night but finally made it to the club wearing a suit and the girls wearing club dresses and heels, on top of that I have a table reserved so it shouldn’t be a problem getting in right?.. Well not quite Gave the bouncer with the«clipboard» my credentials so he could find my reservation. One minute he says yes my name was on the list then the next he says No. I politely asked him to check again. During this time, I remained courteous about the situation but the girls with me were growing a little impatient because we were getting wet. Some manager later came to our table to apologized for the misunderstanding. I stated it was no big deal, but made him aware a friend was joining us later and to make sure he would not have a problem getting in. «Your friend is on your list so no problem». Ok cool so in we go. 20 minutes later my friend calls and tells me they would not let him in. Went back upstairs to find out why. My friend is african-american and while I’m upstairs explaining to them that he is on the list with our party, one of those guys at the door questioned me whether or not I even had a table reserved. Again back to the same nonsense. By this time I’m thinking this place doesn’t know how to do VIP bottle service properly. Butter is lacking competence in this area. Finally, after dealing with ineptitude upstairs, he is allowed in. Now for the club review itself, the table was supposed to sit 6 people and it barely fit 3 and it was four of us, the table itself should be more ample, not to mention the couches were uncomfortable both of which need improvement. The music was off for most of the night but that happens in every club some nights so I won’t hold it against it. Most of it lies with the DJ to keep the crowd happy but it was alright, I did have a little bit of fun. The positives about the place… The cute servers coming to your section to make your drinks, the security personnel inside and the sight of women which is always a positive at any club. Now after reading some reviews, I have to disagree respectfully with comparisons to the Vegas mega clubs. Come on now, XS/Surrender the whole club is VIP. Frankly, I don’t think Butter deserves all this hype. It’s an average club. Many of you agree butter is the best club in CLT and so do the girls I went with that saturday night. I’ll take your word for it. I think is a good club.

I understand why people would enjoy the club scene after going to Butter the other night. Poshy chandeliers, a grand spiral staircase leading down to a dimly lit and intimate dancefloor and seating area. I get it, and while it’s not my scene, I have a feeling that Butter knows what they’re doing and they’re pretty good at it for the most part. The bartenders are super friendly here but don’t know a lot of specialty drinks(I asked for a Bombay Flush, got Bombay on ice with a maraschino and splash of cranberry). The tables and bottle cases are very metal chic but the seating isn’t as posh and lush as I was expecting(a little velvet would be cool, but probably not practical cleaning wise). One thing that really disappointed me was the bathroom — cheaply done, very sterile and while the lighting was low it wasn’t low enough for me to miss the reallllly cheap toilet paper, no soap in any dispenser and the fingerprints all over the mirror(it’s 8pm on a Thursday, no way that happened unless you didn’t clean it for a while!). But back to the feel of Butter and the experience — this is a really nice place and the nicest I’ve been to in Charlotte. Don’t know much about poppin’ bottles or gettin’ low on the dance floo, etc etc but I do know that this is a great place to go if you’ve got some money, want to be flashy and maybe meet an athlete or 2!

Eh whatever it is another stupid night club. The music is good and if you follow them on fb you can avoid the kid nights and the crappy djs you hate. It is really cool inside and posh. Dress sophisticated. Chicks get in for free(at least the half dozen times i have been there) but dudes can expect to pay $ 20 a piece.

The most upscale nightclub in Charlotte, without a doubt. Some things to keep in mind if you plan on visiting Butter NC: * Whether you’re a guy or a girl, dress to impress. Gentlemen — this means nice button-downs and nice shoes. Accessories are also a very good idea. Ladies, wear heels, and something form fitting. Chances are good you’ll get in. * If you’re a guy, there’s only a few ways to get into Butter. 1) Be on the list with a regular at the club. From there, make friends with the staff(Big Tips) and getting in the front door will become progressively easier the more often you frequent the club. The staff recognizes the regulars, and they do get special treatment — walking past everyone whos arguing with the doormen to get in never gets old. 2) Bring 2 – 3 attractive girls with you — women are like currency when you go out to Butter, and the more girls you have with you, the more social savvy you convey to the doormen. 3.) Agree to get table /bottle service — This is a last resort, and will run you, ballpark range, $ 300 bucks per bottle after gratuity(This isn’t a tip, they automatically charge you a gratuity for bottles. This is to pay the bills for the bar girls who patrol the table areas, dance, and guard your bottle from other people that try to steal drinks from you, and the barbacks who will keep your ice box, mixers, and clean glasses full at your table at all times — it’s worth the price.) Bottle service is always fun — 1 or 2 girls will come out waving sparklers around your bottle as they bring it out — they’ll dance for a little bit, and then put your bottle in a clear, locked box that only they will have the key to. From there, *you* decide who gets to drink from your bottle. Just point out people to the barback girl assigned to your table, and she’ll enforce whatever policy you put forward. Drinks are pricey — expect to pay $ 10 for most drinks, $ 12 after tips. Don’t be stingy with your cash — once you get your foot in the door that first time, especially if you’re a guy, it’s imperative that you treat the staff right. The nicer you are to them, and the friendlier you get with them, the easier it gets to simply waltz in and skip the circus show at the front door on subsequent nights — It actually can be fun to get a table up at the upper mezzanie area overlooking the front door and watching the doormen reject people. The women are the most attractive in Charlotte, and the men are the most social — they screen out the puds at the door, but that means that you yourself have to look extremely presentable when you show up: its just the nature of the beast — don’t take it personally if you don’t get in. There are some nasty reviews of this club here, and I’m noticing the common theme there is that these people usually didn’t get in. There is no rule that says you can’t ask the doorman why you aren’t getting in, swallowing your pride, heading to Halo or Wet Willies around the corner(Much more lax, laid back atmosphere), and just try to meet their standards a bit better next time you go out. Guys, expect to drop at least $ 75-$ 100 for each person you plan on paying for. When you break it down pricewise, bottle service is usually your best option and is fun for everyone. Ladies, don’t expect to pay a dime(if you’re doing it right), but DO expect to go home with a guy, haha. Bottom Line: Yes, the other reviewers are right — the doormen at Butter NC can be douches if you don’t dress to impress, the drinks are extremely pricey, and if you can’t get in it can ruin your evening. But the other side of the coin is this — It is the best club in Charlotte, and the most attractive and wealthy people in the city are seen there: that’s why people like Kanye West, Shaq, the Hilton Sisters and the Kardashians are seen there. You get what you pay for, and I have to say, that while expensive, there has NEVER been a night that I haven’t had fun at Butter. Period.

Upscale, trendy, city club done right. Def the best club I’ve been to in Charlotte, but, really, I haven’t been to too many here. Dress to impress, have a pro-female group ratio, go before 10:30pm and it shouldn’t be too hard to get in. Oh, and it always helps to act like you know what’s going on, not cocky, but confident with a dash of douche. Friday had a $ 10 cover, drinks are gonna cost you more than the Charlotte average, but def not over the top expensive. Two levels with dance floor and bar on each. DJ was good(finally no Journey followed by Gaga!), spinning better mixes of top 40/electronica/hip hop(it works, I swear). I certainly danced my butt off. Crowd was more mature, everyone was dressed up, and no creepers were prowling the sidelines(that I could see anyway). Pay for parking close to the club and free parking just a short walk away! Let’s go again!

SO after reading a couple of reviews, I thought very carefully on what I would type as a reviewer. I have to say, I see where everyone is coming from… You have to keep in mind, this is a NYC/LA/VEGAS club-scene so as a woman you better BRINGIT! And as a black woman, bring it HARDER! I can see how it has a snobby reputation because I came with my 2 best friends(who are Caucasian if you must know) and it definitely seemed like getting into club sponsored by Tim Gunn. TIP: look and feel important/sexy with a smile. So we waited around(about 10−15mins.-maybe) when a lady with 3 guys asked us to be in her group because of the ratio thing(it’s true). We obliged and the«gate keepers» asked me about our group size. So, they let us in. Once inside, it is ON with velvet damask, cut crystal and mood lighting. It reminds me of Opera from Atlanta but with a more upscale vibe. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the dance floor and on the patio. BUT, at some point, it got sketchy… questionable sketchy. Like, why would someone come to ‘Club Tim Gunn’ in a soiled undershirt and stained jeans(NOT a look on purpose-type)? I’m not sure how long this will last but I’m glad I got to experience it when it will remain a great memory in my head. SO yes– you do have to look GOOD/sexy/important Yes– if you’re a guy, bring some spectacular eye-candy. Seriously. Yes– the place is diverse, but I know I was 1 in 10 black girls there(and even less for the brothers). Yes– Once in, you WILL have a great time! Make it work!

Butter, if you can keep the sketchy crowd away and not resort to dropping your standards on music, I will keep coming. If you become every other place in Charlotte that has tried these two things and failed when they can’t fill the place without dropping standards, I won’t be surprised but would definitely be disappointed. Posh, energetic, great atmosphere, beautiful people. It doesn’t feel like sleepy Charlotte. Nice job.

I’m going to give it to you straight. Butter is posh, snooty and boojie. Butter caters to a more mature«upscale» crowd, weeding out the gangstas, thugs and college kids. Dress code is dressy. Dress like you’re in Vegas. If you’re trendy and fashionable, you might not have a problem. Butter truly embodies the term«dress to impress.» Butter has an upstairs and downstairs. Their is a bar upstairs and and one downstairs. I would say the upstairs is more of a lounge with tables for rent surrounding the bar. Downstairs is the main dance floor. It can get tight. The cons: If you are a male, with a group of males it’s very unlikely you will get in. If you want to get in, you must reserve a table, or come extra early. A group of very attractive women most definitely helps and it helps if the men are attractive too. If you got money to throw at the bouncer, you might get lucky. Even if you are already on the guest list, make sure you look fly. Most of the men I’ve seen inside were older established, distinguished gentleman; at least by impressions. If you dress like a college kid with a plain polo shirt and some boots — very unlikely you’re getting in. Women, will not have a problem getting in. The unfortunate thing is because this is Charlotte and the nightclub scene isn’t quite up to par with other big cities, they can do this and get away with it. With the nightclub industry, this keeps a big buzz. Watch out for the valet guys. They do not know how to park. A fellow left his lambo to valet and of course it received premier parking. Unfortunately the valet guy straight backed it up right into the curb and checked it. All you heard was a loud crunch… ouch. The pros: Butter is a work of art. Décor is elegant, sensual and inviting. Very visually stimulating and some tables are aligned right on the dance floor, similar to XS in Vegas. People are attractive and there is a lot of eye candy. Waitresses are gorgeous and sexy. The DJ spins good music, mixing top 40 with dance music/electronica. Some hip hop. Overall feel good party music. Comparatively drinks aren’t too bad of price, bottle service is. If you don’t have any connections, you will wait in line. Nothing new though, many hot clubs in Vegas and LA also have long waits. TAO at the Venetian in Vegas still has lines that keep you waiting hours and hours, and people do it. In all, is this Charlotte’s best club? YES it is. Bouncers are just doing their job and keeping the scene alive and aesthetically pleasing for us all. Is it fun? Hell yes, especially if you have a good fun crowd. As hypocritical as I am; as much as I am against the selection process, Butter really is smooth and classy. If you can’t get in, don’t fret! Halo is literally down the street and I’ve had many a good times at Halo. The overall crowd is «posh» but as long as you’re with good company, you’ll forget about it will have a great time. I did! I can’t really hate on Butter. No matter how many times we fellers might get turned away, it’s a worthy club. And lets be honest. The ratio they keep, the standards they have is one of the big attractions drawing us there. I guess you can say, Butter is pretty«pimp.»

I was fortunate enough to attend both the Friday and Saturday grand opening events of Butter NC on February 19th and 20th. In a word, this place is awesome. You feel like somebody special the second the velvet ropes open for you and even better once you walk in the door. The décor of the club is beautiful and the overall vibe is much different and better than any other place in Charlotte. You feel like you have walked into a club in NYC or Vegas. There is a strict minimum 1-to-1 ratio of guys to girls in terms of who is allowed in on busy nights. This benefits everyone, as guys have a much better selection of women, and girls have to deal with a lot smaller number of meatheads than at other spots in Charlotte. This is a common policy in bigger cities and something more places in Charlotte should consider. It significantly reduces the«riff raff» which makes the club that much more attractive overall. They offer just about every quality brand of liquor and exceptional service by the staff. The DJ’s were excellent both nights, but I especially liked DJ Jus Ske on Friday night. He’s a regular at 1Oak in NYC and it’s easy to see why. He had the place moving from start to finish. On Saturday night the Black Eyed Peas hosted their after party here, and took over the turntables late in the night. Fergie and the rest of the group also performed a couple of songs live, which was pretty cool. There were several other celebs in the house both nights, such as Julius Peppers and other Carolina Panthers, Bobcats owner Bob Johnson, Nicky Hilton, and others. You can also expect some of the biggest names in NASCAR to be regulars here in the offseason, as Denny Hamlin is one of the major investors in Butter NC. Bottom line is owners Scott Sartiano and Richie Akiva are two of the best in the business at creating an exclusive spot that takes care of its patrons and delivers on promises made. They’ve transformed night life in the best city in the world(NYC) and Charlotte is fortunate they’ve brought their product here. If you’re looking for a big time atmosphere with great music, beautiful people, and top notch service, then Butter NC is the only choice in the Queen City.
