This store really is not bad. But something about it just leaves you feeling all icky, like you need to absolutely bathe in anti-biotic ointment after leaving. Or before leaving perhaps. It might be because the parking lot slopes down toward the store, making you feel like everything runs into the place, and frankly, who knows what is running off of Albemarle Road? It might be because of the towering stacks aisles that give you the feel of being in an overcrowded flea market(not that there is anything wrong with that, but we are talking a mid-major grocery here). Ultimately there is no real problem with the place, and the service is certainly better than most other Bi-Lo stores. It just generally makes me want to keep driving. I agree with Seth that the gas rewards are tempting. It would just be nice if they were for somewhere other than BP, since the Charlotte-area BP pumps are so slow… my time is worth more than a few cents off a gallon.

Bi-Lo is notoriously inconsistent in the quality of their stores, but the Albemarle Road location exceeded my expectations. Spacious, varied in selection, and low prices. The kicker is yet to come… On both trips to this Bi-Lo, the produce has been surprisingly fresh. A head of romaine lettuce is a mere $ 2! The fruit is kind lacking… but that’s why Compare Foods is around the corner. The bakery is always baking something fresh and the meats look quite appealing. Unlike other Bi-Lo’s, I didn’t notice this location trying to hawk expired foods. I guess I keep shopping here because its cheap like Aldi’s, but has the selection like a normal grocery store. Anyway… The kicker is that the reward you with gas savings. If you buy like $ 50 worth of groceries, you’ll get .15 per gallon off from several gas stations. No joke. Please keep in mind that this is Albemarle Rd, so I’d avoid grocery trips after dark. Otherwise, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that a decent grocery store exists in East Charlotte.
