Advantage Appliance & Restaurant Equipment

First, I love Craigslist, but this is the first time I bought from a store front that advertises through Craigslist. NEVER AGAIN! I’m sure there are legitimate businesses using Craigslist; This is not one of them.
The owner or manager I initially dealt with was nice enough. So, I continued with my purchase even though the store was filthy and littered with beer bottles and cigarette packs. He sold a (broken) washer to me with a smile on his face. Cash only. Wrote out the receipt with a 90 day warranty. After I signed, he said there would be a small service charge for him to come out for repair, but everything else was covered. What?! ok… And there are no refunds. Store exchange only.
Then the rest of the staff began to arrive. If they had been there when I showed up I might have walked away. Too late, already paid and set up delivery. Still, I hoped for the best, kept a smile on my face; But I had made a bad deal. I had been scammed. I had found a washer that matched my still working dryer and I wanted it too bad.
First load was water only to sanitize, wouldn’t drain (I cleaned rocks and slime out of the filter). Second load had a few towels, wouldn’t stabilize to spin all the water out (Took 3 hours for a 1 hour load). Third test load, the drum and motor broke. Done! I just had an independent repair guy out to confirm. Too expensive to fix. Same problem as the washer I was trying to replace. AND they are still posting this washer on Craigslist. I will not be returning it. I will be sending it to the recycling center.
I cannot comment on their 90 day warranty because I do not trust them enough to invite them into my home. And I am certainly not paying them for a service call. I have no doubts that they’d exchange this machine. I also have no doubts that they knew this machine was broken. This experience is embarrassing to me, but I openly share so no one else gets had by these people.

I have heard pretty good «deal getting» stories about Craigslist, so I finally gave it a whirl. Found a patio table on there and it said it was listed «by owner.» After I started calling and inquiring, I found out that Advantage Appliance was actually selling it. One of the employees said that they get stuff from Sears. So far, so good… until I actually went to the store.
Place smelled of old smoke and they had lots of old, used appliances. It did not look like any appliance store that I’ve ever been in. I guess they sell used stuff mainly. They also had boxes of dining sets, looks like they fell off a truck (maybe the Sears truck). The guy I was talking to on the phone said that they had the patio set in stock. Drove to the place and another employee (I assumed) said that they sold the set I was coming in for the day before. I drove all that way for nothing!
Needless to say, it’s not a well organized business. Not good experience. I will be ever so cautious about Craigslist… and I don’t ever plan on coming to this place again.
