Cycling Salamander looks like the gallery that would be in a romantic comedy set in Northern Michigan. Which is to say, it is picture perfect. In addition to the main gallery, the Cycling Salamander consists of a lovely sculpture garden and a special exhibit that is shown in certain rooms of the owner’s(picture perfect) house. The art on display consists of two dimensional and tree dimensional art at a variety of price points, from unique pottery and textiles that one could purchase on impulse, to substantial paintings and sculpture from regionally well known artists. I understand that the gallery also hosts musical events and offers classes and workshops. I wish I lived close enough to participate! I am really tempted to give Cycling Salamander five stars, and the only reason I’m not is the plethora of wonderful galleries in the Petoskey area.

The lady who works(owns?) this place has three animals. Hooray for animal lovers, there are two dogs and a black cat. There are a few scattered sculptures out back of the building. The gallery itself has a smart art display on right now(summer 2011) featuring pieces made from found/recycled and/or sustainable materials. There’s a people’s choice voting too, be sure to do that. There are a few etsy items as well, hats, bracelet cuffs, and skirts. I also saw jewelry and notecards. I may have to return to buy a t-shirt, I really wanted one but the 20 $ seemed high. Then again, it’s nice to support the local yokels.
