We walked in at 10:59 and they still treated us to an amazing sunday, cup of soup and cheese burger. My husband and I are very picky about our ice cream since we don’t cheat on our diets often(if we’re gonna cheat it’d better be worth it). The combo of quality cream, fudge, and nuts just tasted out of this world. I don’t understand how something seemly simple could taste this good. Blown away.

My husband loves ice cream so we had to stop by when we saw this place. There was a line at the drive thru and all the tables were filled inside. We walked in and were asked if we wanted to try any samples of any flavor. My husband got a medium cup of sea salt caramel and I got a small cup of pistachio. We thought we were getting scoops but we were pleasantly surprised when they gave us heaping scoops. It was around $ 10 for us but it was so much that we barely finished it; it was definitely a struggle! But it was good. I was really sad, though, that the ice cream immediately began melting the moment we stepped out of the cold ice cream shop and into the scorching Charleston heat(darn you, Charleston heat!) Needless to say, we’ll be back the next time we’re in Charleston.

This started in an old gas station in the ‘70s and is a REALLY cool place(474 Savannah Highway). I had a Super Dog-Loaded with slaw and my girlfriend had the 10-slice-of-bacon BLT. The dog was messy and tasted wonderful. My girlfriend loved her mega-bacon BLT and gave me some of it to try-AWESOME! Each of us topped it off with a double scoop waffle cone of tremendous ice cream. UGGHHHH! Too much!!! BUTOHSOGOOD! A neighborhood institution.

Enjoyed ice cream in a cup last night as well as a Shake. Really tasty a bit expensive though. Friendly staff, very busy but would like to have seen more sanitary practices Milk was left out on the counter no hair nets on employees who put their heads into the ice cream coolers to scoop the ice cream and a very messy environment. I get it they were slammed on a sat night

We were in downtown Charleston and really craving a milkshake so we stumbled upon this place off of a google maps search. Arrived to find a cute little shop. Didn’t try any of the food-looked and smelled good with very decent prices. The ice cream was very tasty– we had pecan praline, banana pudding, and the new brownie snores flavor(the best one). HUGE sizes that you can’t even finish. Two ice cream sundaes cost us $ 15. We probably should have just split one because we each threw half away and that was on empty stomachs — wish they had kids sundaes! But hey, the more the merrier?

John is an ice cream artist! He said the only ingredient that matters is love. He made great desserts! See pics!

Old school, Family owned amazing shop! Great Ice Cream, Sundaes and Malts! Not to mention the wonderful BLT and Hot Dogs. You get a lot of food for the money and it’s absolutely worth it. Great local niche place!

A serious old time Ice Cream shop! Ive been here a bunch of times but i forget to check in because im enjoying whatever sinister dessert theyve made for me! They have GREAT sandwiches and burgers. They make an amazing BLT with something like a pound of bacon! No joke, its the real deal. Alot of the sandwiches come as double deckers, but if you ask them, they will leave out the middle piece of bread. As far as desserts… get the Black and White sundae. Hot fudge and marshmallow fluff toppings on your choice of 2 scoops and its easily enough for 2… or one who really needs it!

My husband and I took the kids for ice cream for our last night visiting Charleston at this particular location. This place is a jem, the staff at this location was super friendly and they even give samples which came in great for an indecisive person live me. The menu is massive and they serve food as well. The burger were delicious as well as the BLT which was piled high with bacon. The ice was fresh and creamy. They offer banana splits, shakes and malts. When we return when we visit again.

The ice cream here is awesome, a lot of flavors and options to choose from. Food wise this is your typical dinner which serves all the greasy foods you love. One tip dont even try to hit the drive thru in west ashley location you will wait forever.

We were quickly helped but every single person working in the place had a scowl on their face. First time there and we were asked quite impatiently what we wanted as we walked along the display case. The guy helping us seemed annoyed that he had to help us. No one there was smiling or polite. The product itself was a nice serving size and tasted like ice cream you could get any where. But due to the poor attitudes of the employees I do not feel the need to go back.

Ye Old Gross… We had cheese fries and they were doused in nasty«cheese» sauce. The place was unclean and unsanitary. Ice cream was rock hard and freezer burned. Extremely disappointing.

Solid food, good price. We ordered our food to go. It took a little long for the order to be prepared, but the burger was nice sized. I had a Strawberry Sundae that I ate after it sat in the freezer and it was still pretty good. Wish I would have been able to stay at the restaurant and enjoy it but it was freezing inside. I saw some things I would try again, if ever in the area.

Come on, who doesn’t like an old fashion ice cream store? This it! The potion of ice cream you get for the $ is amazing. You can’t finish it. The hamburgers and French fries are to die for. Now, this is a take care of yourself place, no service, but that is what you expect. You can sit outside, or drive thru, and enjoy. Sometimes I go just for the Fries, um um good. We need more quick places like this. The people are nice, always with a smile. Frank G

Well damn! Now I see what all the huzzah is about. So a girl got a sundae! The birthday cake ice cream has chunks of real cake in it, sold. Top that off with melted peanut butter, hot fudge, whipped cream, and some rainbow sprinkles and you’ve got yourself a happy girl. Mister has the strawberry shortcake sundae, pound cake, strawberries and whipped cream. Both of us had to take half the thing home, thankfully they have lovely little container tops as I’m guessing this happens to people often. They have about 30 flavors and you can buy it by the half pint all the way up to the gallon. Other fried food is available as well. Both indoor and outdoor seating plus a drive thru option. Oh god a girl loves ice cream and she is happy!

This place gets 5 stars from me because it really is an old fashioned ice cream café and it’s been here forever and they have some pretty amazing and amazingly bad for you menu items like their big crazy bacon BLT and yes I can be a little slow here but that’s just because it’s busy because people like it

What can you say about a store that’s been around forever! I started eating at ye old fashion when it was at South Windermere. Really like the sandwiches and of course their fries extra crispy! Sometimes when your day has been too long you need to stop in for an ice cream cone. It will make the day better. The reason for only 4 stars is I always think the place could use a coat of paint.

Exactly what I wanted at the time and exactly what it advertised — ice cream and fried, greasy food — it’s definitely Olé Fashioned, if not out-of-date(for some of the real-food items) This place is definitely a throwback to another time. It’s a greasy-spoon diner/ice cream parlor that is reminiscent of something on the [New] Jersey Shore back in the 50s/60s. The«real» food menu reflects this perfectly; it’s a little out-of-date. Lots of white bread sandwiches and hot dogs/chili dog — but if that’s what you want, it hits the spot! The ice cream selection is good… over 20 flavors in the large bins under the glass case, but no soft serve :(- I only bring up the soft serve because we really wanted soft serve! Milkshakes are yummy! They use real ingredients — ice cream and milk — not like the emulsified pork/beef fat shakes at the major fast food chains. The staff is friendly, even though they get slammed and are super busy a lot! The décor is very bright and has well worn tables and booths — a little medical waiting room feeling to it. Although very close to Earthfare, they are worlds apart! You’re not coming to Ye Olé Fashioned for health food!

Stopped in for a snack and bathroom break on our road trip from Savannah to Charleston. It’s right off of the highway and easy to get to, though the parking lot is quite small. The bathroom is small– just one stall, and the lights do not work, so I wouldn’t suggest this as a rest stop. As for the ice cream, they have lots of flavor choices. You can get waffle, sugar cone, or a cup. The people working here are nice and the servings are generous.

My husband used to come here as a kid, so it was definitely planned as one of our stops during our Charleston/Spoleto vacation. I wasn’t feeling very hungry, so I got a bowl of she crab soup, but it was so good, I ended up eating as much as I could! My husband got a chili dog and fries and felt like a kid again. We got some salted caramel ice cream, too, and enjoyed every bite we could stuff in ourselves. Great casual dive with good food. I’m coming back for that she crab soup!
