Why would I want to feel like I’m in the hot kitchen cooking my own meal when I’m paying to go out to eat? There was no air conditioning and though it was 100 degrees outside it felt cooler outside then inside the restaurant. It also seemed a bit overpacked with tables and wouldn’t surprise me if it’s against fire code. Also my husbands chicken wasn’t cooked all the way through. I used to like this place but will never go back in the summer again.

This place gets a s up just because they are dog friendly. Unique place. Loved our waiter. Food was good but margaritas weren’t. Loved the décor.

I have always heard good things about Taco Boy, so I put it on the short to long list of places to visit. When we first walked in, we were met with some pretty cool décor, and a nice ambiance. There wasn’t a wait because we arrived pretty early. We immediately ordered drinks. I had the Skinny Pineapple Margarita which was so yummy that I ordered another before I knew it. We ordered nachos for an appetizer which were good, and I ordered a fried chicken taco and the tempura avocado taco. Let me say that whatever they put on that chicken taco was so good. I think there is a little bit of bbq sauce drizzled on the chicken that just takes it to another level. The tempura was a little disappointing, but at least I figured out that I am not a fan of hot avocado and tempura together. I removed the tempura and then it was better. We had a great time here, and I will definitely be back… because the skinny margarita was good.

I love Taco Boy. Fun ambiance and décor. Delicious food and cocktails. Try the fried chicken taco — not really a traditional taco but one of my favorites. The fish taco and tempura avocado are good as well.(The Folly Beach location is also good, and a nice way to end a day at the beach.) There’s lots of outdoor seating at Taco Boy, so if you go in the summer months bring/wear bug spray — The mosquitos are brutal!

This is a very fun restaurant for some tasty tacos. We went here for a large group lunch and it was the just the spot to do so. Our group was a mix of Charleston residents and us visitors. We all got beers and tacos. $ 4 Dos Equis Amber with a lime slice? Yes please. There was a mix up between some of our tacos, but we figured it out amongst ourselves. I got a fried chicken taco that had jalapeños, spicy slaw and barbecue sauce(which I would have done without) and an avocado tempura taco which was very delicious. Everyone seemed happy with their tacos and we all had a fun time. The main selling point of why we enjoyed our time at Taco Boy was the kindness of our servers. Our waitress acted more like our friend than our waitress and it was really fun. Keep it up Taco Boy!

Went today for Cinco de Mayo. We were seated right away which was awesome. We had to wait almost 10 minutes for our waiter to come which was annoying but the service was quick after that and apparently there was just a miscommunication among who had which section, understandable since I used to work in food/beverage. I ordered the mango Margarita which was the best margarita ever! Can’t go wrong with ordering the appetizer trio either. I got the fried chicken taco and the grilled fish taco. The fried chicken taco was out of this world! I honestly could have eaten 5 of them. I didn’t like the grilled fish taco. I didn’t enjoy to salsa, but that’s just me, I gave it to my boyfriend and he loved it. Definitely our new taco/margarita spot!

Taco Boy was a staple restaurant for me years ago. I would have rated it a 5 then, now it’s more on the average side for me. We were recently welcomed by less than enthusiastic hostesses, but that doesn’t necessarily ruin a meal for me. Louise was our waitress and she was great. I usually get the steak nachos, but this time there was very little steak and the nachos were soggy. Pros: large outdoor patio seating, great nachos(add steak — very good!), tacos(tempura avocado and baja fish are my favorite), and guacamole(can’t go wrong with the trio appetizer), sangria margarita, frozen screwdrivers, any drink really, large parking lot. Cons: often spotty service, often crowded, mostly community tables on the patio, bathrooms cleanliness is often questionable, better or equal restaurants in Charleston.

The fish tacos are great as is all the food we tried. Fun setting that is casual with great service.

I always enjoy going to Taco Boy for an authentic-ish Mexican meal. The atmosphere is very casual with lots of unique lights and decorations. There’s a rather large patio with an indoor/outdoor bar so you can keep the margaritas coming. Parking for the downtown location is a bit easier than the James Island location with the parking lot both beside the restaurant and across the street. For a starter, you have to get the nachos. I recommend the taco boy salad with the house dressing or any of the tacos on the long list of seventeen unique tacos. If you want a full meal, order a Plato with either chicken carne or shrimp and rice with the delicious cowboy beans. The quesadillas are really good too. For drinks, they unfortunately only have a small size, so you may have to order more than one. The house is $ 6 and I like it. They have fancier fruity frozen margaritas $ 7(try the peach) and an incredibly yummy pineapple-infused margarita $ 7.

The day started with my husband and I searching for something«neat to eat», which normally translates to «let’s go somewhere we’ve never been before.» After two trips across the Ravenel Bridge, we decided to try our luck with Taco Boy. We first arrived and we were immediately seated. We had the choice of the patio or inside, but it was 3pm by the time we got there and we were starving. The wait staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is amazing. We ended up ordering nachos for the appetizer and we were NOT disappointed. The small mountain of chips and cheese was jut the beginning of a beautiful food relationship. The tacos I had were amazing as well, though my husband wasn’t quite happy with his Al Pastor taco. It was something about the pickled onions, but he’s not a big fan of those anyways. If your in Charleston and are craving some tacos, Taco Boy is the place to go. 10/10, will visit again.

Food is very good! Good selections of margaritas; wine selection is very poor(one red and one white). They have different type of tacos … Try the cauliflower! Service was very slow, but it was Saturday night. A good experience overall.

Last night was my first visit to Taco Boy, and I’m still dreaming about it today. Came in late-night with some friends after an event. We sat at the bar and had great service from the bartender Ron. Really nice guy and very attentive. I ordered some Tecates, an Americano flour soft taco and a Tempura Avocado taco — AMAZING. I would eat that daily if I could. Also tried a bit of a Margarita and some Mexican Street Corn– very interesting flavors. Tasty. Can’t wait to visit again :)

My sister was all about us checking-out Taco Boy when we were in Charleston. Since there was a location right around the corner from the flat we rented for our stay, we were keen on checking it out. They certainly have an abundance of uniquely flavoured combinations of tacos, and we miss having so much Mexican food around. When we went in, we were seated in a kind of hidden booth in the back. We sat, unattended for about 10, maybe 15 minutes. We saw a group of servers just sort of standing around shooting the shit, so I got up to see if there was a server in our area. A woman apologised and said she was our server, and that she had been held up with a large group. I’m not sure if that was the case or not, but either way, she took our order. We got queso to start, and then both ordered three tacos. It might be because I’ve been away so long from a place that offers such cheesy(yet, processed) deliciousness, but the chips tasted freshly made and the cheese dip was the perfect blend of creamy and spicy. As for my tacos, I went for the Fried Chicken, Tempura Avocado and Roasted Cauliflower. I was quite full after all of the chips and queso, but did try to get through as best as I could. I started with the Roasted Cauliflower. This was a great blend of roasted cauliflower, avocado, red cabbage and chill lime cream. I didn’t care for the Tempura Avocado at all, and the Fried Chicken, though intriguing, wasn’t my favourite, either. In retrospect, I would have gotten one or two Roasted Cauliflower tacos and shared the queso with my husband still. I think this is a great place to go for queso and chips… and a few nice beverages.

Taco Boy is a great taco spot. Margs, tacos, and a fitting atmosphere make for a nice dining experience. The margaritas are made«fresh» instead of with mix and you seem to get a good amount of tequila. If you’re with more than two other people, grab one of the appetizers. I saw a few of these and they looked amazing. I had two tacos, one carnitas and a beef. Both were fantastic and super tasty. I would get these both again if I could. One was just the right amount of spicy without adding anything. Oh, yeah, you have to get the Mexican street corn. It is amazing. If I could do it again, I would get three or four tacos instead of just two. They aren’t as full as I would like in the flour tortillas for $ 4 each. I’ll be coming back here my next time in Charleston. I REALLY liked the taste of the tacos and want to try a few of the other types.

Taco Boy is one of our most visited restaurants. We always order the appetizer trio(salsa, guac and queso) which sells at market price. This is usually enough to fill most of us up but we power through the fullness and order more because you can’t pass up a Taco Boy taco! Tonight I ordered a grilled fish taco(under $ 4). While it was good, sometimes, like tonight, there is an overwhelming fish smell. Another person in our group ordered the same thing and no fish smell… So who knows?! Maybe it’s my super smelling powers working against me! The rest of our group ordered the Americano tacos, chicken quesadillas and the soup/salad combo. Everyone loved their food and will definitely be back for more!

Such a fun, up beat environment! The nachos are absolutely incredible! Perfect size to share with one person and still get 1 – 2 tacos. Each taco is unique and flavorful. My absolute favorite is the fried chicken taco with the bbq sauce and the chipotle mayo sauce. So yummy.

Great, upbeat atmosphere. Can be a little too loud for professional work outing, but great for Happy hour or just for fun. This indoor/outdoor setting is very inviting and servers are always very friendly. Try the trio appetizer or just go for the regular guacamole. Queso is good too and you can add meat. Tacos can be on corn or flour tortillas, and they also have bibb lettuce wraps. Several of the tacos are«juicy» so I find that the tortillas get a little soggy for my liking. Ingredients are so tasty though. I like the shrimp options, and of course Al Pastor. Trying the lettuce wraps today for the first time, but they look delicious! Grab some friends and drink frozen margaritas on the patio when you have some free time. Enjoy!

Finally tried out the notorious Taco Boy for lunch today and was not disappointed! Started out with the appetizer trio– guac, queso, & salsa– and I have to say it was the best guacamole I have had in Charleston. The queso and jalapeño salsa were excellent as well. For my entrees I ordered tacos(big suprise). My first pick was the grilled chicken which was delicious, moist and quite flavorful. Second was the tempura avocado which I also highly recommend as the flavor combination and overall mix of different tastes was fantastic. The service was spot on, we were not left wanting for anything, and the food delivery was prompt and accurate. Lastly, they have a DOGFRIENDLY patio! I was bummed because I didn’t realize I could bring my fuzzball before we went but now I know for next time. Their outdoor area has plenty of shade and fans to keep you cool and the whole area has an awesome chill and laid back Mexican feel. If you haven’t checked this place out yet, go!

This place is so good. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. You can’t go wrong with the appetizer trio(salsa, queso, guacamole), any of their tacos or a shrimp quesadilla. While I think it’s great that you can order a variety of different tacos a-la-carte, they don’t make it obvious to first time visitors that for 4 bucks you’re only getting one single taco. The tacos are on the smaller side, so you’re going to want to get at least 2 or 3. Their dog-friendly outdoor patio is a great place to eat and share a few drinks, though it sometimes gets a little noisy– to the point where you can’t even hear the person sitting immediately next to you. The service was decent. When we got their our waitress was friendly and helpful, checking in on us every few minutes. As soon as the dinner rush picked up, she disappeared until we had to ask another waitress to find her. All in all, I would definitely recommend Taco Boy. Can’t wait to try the Folly Beach location!

Confession time… I’ve never been to Taco Boy until yesterday. I tried to go once and there was a super long wait so we left. Glad I made it back. It was busy for a Thursday, but we got a table in 10 or 15 mins… outside nonetheless! The atmosphere outside is perfect and the patio is huge. It’s definitely where you want to be with good weather. There’s no conspiracy, the street corn is as good as everyone says it is. The salsa appetizer was a good app to share and the Mexican brew flows like wine. I had a couple tacos(carnitas and ground beef) and they were pretty good. I’ve had some amazing tacos recently and they didn’t quite stack up, but still good and fairly inexpensive.
