The rude 3 girls behind the counter were playing the«guess how old the customer is.» Then the blonde one says, «don’t ask her, she looks old.» Weekend of the girls state track meet.

I begin each semester with a trip to 4th street. The selection is great, but I wish they offered more polo’s. I also really liked the football t-shirts and sweatshirts from last year. They should bring those back. :) The manager, Chris, is a cool cat as well. Totally a must visit when in Charleston.

WOW, guys!!! I mean, really, what a difference a year makes! Where once was a sad lot of barren shelves is now loaded with new vinyl releases. Even Record Store Day specials – how did this happen?! I’m stunned and thrilled with this change of events. New CDs also greeted me when I walked in, most pertaining to artists performing at Pygmalion in Champaign. The prices are getting more reasonable for music, too. This new and improved 4th Street is something I can get behind!

I give this a 5 star rating because it is as good as it gets in Charleston, IL. Great selection of music, poster, EIU stuff, candles and jewelery. Staff is helpful, prices are reasonable. Only drawback is the parking situation is lacking! Great place to buy gifts!

Okay, so maybe this was one of the only places to ‘shop in Chucktown, but it still takes the cake. Along with my love for Bob Dylan, the place had anything and everything ‘heady.’ I did my most of my Christmas shopping here while in college. The staff is skeptical of everyone that walks in here, but can you blame them? They have everything you need, and by you I mean, cheefers. That’s right I said it. Once they opened the second floor, it was all over. I felt like I was on Michigan Ave… but was on Lincoln Ave and probably ditching class instead of on some swanky shopping trip in downtown Chicago.

This place is what I had in my mind when I thought of a college town. A cool place to buy music and other nifty things. You have to check it out if you are there. There isn’t much else to do. This might be the best thing. Aside from visiting the original Jimmy Johns. Or get wasted with the college kids. Go Panthers!

So there I was, attending EIU. a music fan with nowhere to shop. well except for walmart but that doesn’t count. and then. a beacon in the night. what’s that i see? a record shop is opening? within walking distance of my dorm? *cue the sound of angels singing…~aahhhhh!!!~~~* ah yes. Positively 4th Street Records got me(and a lot of us) thru my college years by having a fabulous selection of cd’s(mainstream, indie, up-n-coming, local bands), band t-shirts, delicious smelling incense and more. Yay for 4th Street! :)
