I love this place. Plain and simple. They have so many classes to offer at all different times. The coaches are so awesome. Its a full gym, from a pool to a track, to classes to a racquetball court. You can do it all.

I had a horrible experience with the customer service department, specifically member services. In such a fitness driven culture it is unfortunate that I only have bad things to say about this place to my friends, family and clients. The customer is always right and the staff(Victoria and Lilly, even their supervisor Janice) at MUSC Wellness made it clear that they«did not need me as a customer».

This is certainly a great gym. It has nearly everything you could ask for, from a well-stacked weight room(multiple squat racks!) to a huge cardio room, tennis and racquetball courts, pools, sauna, etc. The cleaning staff is also doing a great job in keeping the place in shape. So everything perfect on that behalf. Some of the water fountains have a weird aftertaste and are usually not properly cooled, so better to bring as much of your own water as you can. My main problem are their opening hours. It can get pretty crowded during between 5−7PM during the week, but they close at 10PM if you want to avoid peak hours since you will usually have to wait in the weight room. They already close at 8PM on Friday and opening hours are further limited on the weekend. Putting in a evening workout on the weekend after spending the day at the beach is impossible. I also don’t understand why they don’t open earlier than 11AM on Sunday. This is in my opinion unacceptable for a gym with a relatively high monthly fee(unless you’re a student obviously, then it’s free). But if your schedule fits with the opening hours and you can pay a reduced rate(some MUSC affilitation will help), this is a terrific and well-equipped gym on the peninsula and there are really no good alternatives if you are looking for something downtown.

It is about time I wrote a review for the MUSC Wellness Center. This is the only gym in Charleston that has exactly what I need out of a recreational/wellness facility. This center offers a variety of group exercise classes, and has a large cardio room, well-equipped free weight/weight machine areas, indoor/outdoor running tracks, olympic size indoor pool, open gym areas, racquetball/squash courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc… I am sure I am leaving many of the amenities off the list. Oh, yes, they have saunas and steam rooms! My favorite class is spin… i haven’t been to any of the other ones yet due to my workout schedule, but I would highly recommend the 6am spin class. The lockers are new, clean, and spacious. They provide towels and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the showers. They also have great mirrors and blowdryers available. Lockers are available for rent for a small fee. There is a parking deck attached to the center, that has free parking at certain weekday times, and on weekends. Very convenient. You can also pay for a parking pass. There is a nursery/day care for those with children. I have posted the pool hours and day care hours below, because they differ from the hours of operation. Membership rates are very reasonable, especially for all the amenities located at this one facility. Pool Hours Monday — Thursday 5:30 am to 9:30 pm Friday 5:30 am to 7:30 pm Saturday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Sunday 11:00 am to 6:30 pm Nursery /Day Care Hours BYAPPOINTMENTONLY, DIAL792‑6417.
