This place is not awful, but the chicken served to our table was not crunchy and juicy as expected, but chewy and greasy. Green beans were tasteless, collard greens swam in a bowl of broth. Mac and cheese was good and French fries as well. Did I expect a gourmet meal from Jestine’s – no. Did I expect a darn good fried chicken? Yes. Give it a try, may be yours will be better.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this restaurant. The hostess is one of the rudest people on earth and acts like she is doing you a favor when she tells you to wait in line. The food does not live up to the hype and the place deserves to fail. There are many bad reviews of this place but they seem to disappear on a regular basis

This was a terrible meal. The worst«soul food» ever. If you want true soul searing Soul Food go to Martha Lou’s.

Delicious food, great service, and super-friendly owner and staff who make you feel like you’re in their home. The salad had a delicious walnut vinaigrette house dressing. The sweet cucumbers were a very tasty condiment provided in lieu of bread. The cola-barbecued chicken special was a very creative dish with delicious white sauce and small flecks of bacon over a bed of rice, with very imaginative and delicious, crisp fried collard greens. Great mashed sweet potato. The home-made desserts all had distinct touches that made them special. We enjoyed a cola-sweetened chocolate cake with a delicious sweet glaze. Also, a peach-blueberry cobbler with whole pieces of fruit and a pecan/granola topping in lieu of the usual crust, topped with fresh ice cream from the popular Wholly Cow local establishment. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier. Even brewed a whole pot of coffee for me near closing time, without my asking for that last cup. The owner comes by to all tables and schmoozes about menu items and about the history of the establishment, which commemorates a favourite nanny who took care of the owner and her mother and lived to 112 years of age. She even brought out a plate of collard greens so I could see the difference made by the frying process. She brought out a second plate of mac and cheese because she was concerned that the first plate had cooled down while we spoke with her. We need to come back here again!

Hands down the best fried chicken ever. Simple, straight forward. Delicious bread and butter pickles, which were obviously made fresh. Can’t wait to come back!
