Terrible service, rude owner. Came in with a broken key, asked if they could help with it, I was told they can’t identify the key(calling themselves locksmiths lol), this was the most simple single side metal key, when I asked to buy a simple blank key I was rudely denied on the premise that, «we don’t want people cutting keys out there». Not only that, when I left, the rude, ancient non-lady, came snooping after me in the parking lot as if I stole something from her or something. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for your locksmith needs, or, go there if you want to learn how to fail in business.

Outrageously expensive! I have a Jantzen lock on the door of my business. The lock wasn’t working, so I called Jantzen to repair it, since it was their lock. They came out and spent about 20 minutes at my location. No parts were replaced. He only needed to adjust the back plate on the lock. I was expecting the hourly rate to be similar to a plumber, electrician, etc. Nope, not even close. For 20 minutes of work, they invoiced me $ 126. Needless to say, I’ll never use this company again.

As Cat C. says, Anna at the desk has deplorable customer service. They wanted to charge me $ 175 to have one deadbolt put in an indoor closet door, post-installation. No pre-work«guesstimate» this time. They sprung a $ 75 «service» charge on top of labor and parts without quoting me for the charge or the labor rate up front. When I called to inquire about the charge, Anne flew off the handle immediately when I told her I disagreed with the total bill. She continued to insult me and my guest who let the locksmith in the door claiming I did not know what«good service» is and«I must not work for a living because I don’t know how business works.» If charging exorbitant amounts for minor jobs, not providing quotes up front, and screaming over the phone to customers is Jantzen’s standard of good business, I’ll take my lock needs elsewhere. The locksmith, Dan, was polite, expedient, and professional. My guest commented that she heard Anne screaming at him over the phone about the charge dispute while demanding a credit card and he seemed quite embarrassed. Its the desk jockey at Jantzen office downtown who has major issues and is incredibly rude. Plenty of other locksmiths in town. Don’t use Jantzen. They aren’t BBB registered either.

I have a few rental properties and needed locks changed on three doors. The woman who answers the phone issues a «guesstimate» at changing 6 lock locations of $ 240 which is $ 80 over what I’ve paid before. When I asked what the cost was for them to just show up to compare with the other locksmith costs, her answer was, «$ 240 is my price.» In other words: If you hire them, expect to give them carte Blanche cost-wise and they’ll not be questioned about how much anything costs. I’ve got great plumbers and electricians, conversely, who say $ 70 to come out, and I’ll call you when I get there and we’ll figure out the most cost effective solution for you. I really appreciate problem solvers and forward thinkers. You’ll get none of this here. It’s my money, you’ll damn well explain, in advance, your costs.

Tom from Jantzen came out to our home to fix a door lock that wasn’t working. He explained that, having a relatively new house, we were given«contractor grade» locks which corrode if they aren’t used frequently. He fixed the lock, replaced the pins, and showed us how to spray the inside of the keyhole with WD-40 twice a year, and then insert and remove the key 10 – 15 times to «exercise the pins». Terrific work and customer service.

Fantastic! They had EXACTLY what I needed, exactly when I needed it. I was staying at a rental condo in Charleston and lost the spare key and key chain. Jantzen was able to match the exact key chain and make the key in less than 5 minutes while I waited. They saved me my $ 250 rental deposit and charged me only $ 3 for both the key and the chain.

When I first moved to Charleston, I took a lot of walks. Once I was walking and noticed a key embedded in the sidewalk cement. Then another one. Then I realized there were a ton of keys all over the place! I couldn’t believe it. Then I looked up, and realized I was in front of a locksmith. Oh, I guess it isn’t that coincidental after all. Still cool, though. I got a couple of key copies made here and they were done while I waited. Excellent service and a neat store inside, like you entered another world.
