Food was delicious and well made. We sat at one of the booths for dinner. The hibachi area was loud. The hibachi cooks reminded me of what could’ve been Japanese palace jesters with all the banging on their drums and loud comments. I understand the need to entertain, but it was a little over the top and seemed forced.

Great japaneese steakhouse. The staff really treats you like a valued customer. We had to wait too long for our habatchi table to fill up but the great service and high quality food more than made up for the wait.

I gave a star off because I was uncomfortably cold throughout the meal, that was with my winter coat and scarf on. My climate sensitive body can tell the air was set to 60. Other than being freezing, I loved the sushi and the presentation of it. The sushi came with a good amount of fresh wasabi and ginger and that’s the second thing I am looking at and judging these days. First thing I look at it the amount of sauces drizzled on the sushi — it should be an amount that merely gives a hint of the intended flavor or adds to the presentation. If I want to drown my sushi in whatever sauce, I’ll ask for a bowl/bottle of it on the side. I was happy with the sauce amounts here. The slices on top were a bit thick but it was fine tasting so I’m less picky to that fact. The sushi overall was delicious, and did I mention the presentation? It came in a boat! That’s a real crowd pleaser. I recommend this to sushi lovers and I also recommend dressing in layers and bringing a scarf and jacket.

Ichiban is one of our favorite restaurants. If you’re a sushi and sashimi lover — look no further. Sit down with Leo at the sushi bar and prepare to be amazed. The rolls on the menu are great, but I recommend the specials that are posted on the board behind the bar. They are changed monthly. Some of our absolute favorite rolls have been the M16 roll, Sashimi roll, Leo’s roll, and the current Hot Girl roll. The sashimi is fresh and Leo gives generous cuts. Leo takes the time to make wonderful presentations for his work. As far as other food favorites, we love their General Tso’s beef, sesame chicken, soba, and Thai beef with vegetables. I love their take on the ginger dressing as well. Their kitchen & sushi apps are fantastic and priced well. We’ve had almost everything on the menu, and I can’t say one bad thing about the food. The hibachi is great, and we often order without actually sitting around the table/grill. Specials: Monday — BOGO entrée; Tuesday — Kids eat free; Wednesday — ½ off wine; Sunday — ½ off kitchen apps. They also have great lunch specials. What really makes Ichiban stand out is the staff. They are attentive and really value their customers. Thank you to Kyle, Will, Leo, Taylor, Brian, «Mama», ‘Cinta, Matt, Dru, and the rest of the crew!

I came here because of its high rating on Unilocal, but after finishing my $ 15 chicken hibachi, I don’t understand the hype about this generic«Asian fusion steakhouse».Ichiban is a typical strip mall hibachi chain. The food was three stars but the service brought it down to two. I’m never usually critical about service, but being only one of the three tables there and not getting a refill on water the whole time was frustrating. I would recommend a less generic place with better food that cares a little more.

We chose this restaurant because of the location. I was very pleasantly surprised by Ichiban. We went for a sushi dinner and the sushi bar is beautiful. Our service was great from both our server and the sushi chef. Their sushi menu while having the classics; was also creative and offered choices that other sushi restaurants don’t. They have sushi specials on Monday nights and pretty good drink prices for happy hour. We will be back! So happy to have found Ichiban.

The décor is pretty awesome when you walk in. The lunch specials are also a pretty good deal. Haven’t tried their hibachi, but would be willing to go back to try it. The fried rice lunch special was a large portion, tasted good, and came with a good amount of shrimp(always important to me not to get skimped on the shrimp).

The sushi was good, the spicy tuna could be a little more spicy, the king dragon roll and ruby roll were both very good. Service was fast. They keep the restaurant really cold so bring a jacket. Would go again to eat here.

I always tend to dine in at this restaurant, but this time I was very impressed when I placed a to-go order. Very fast preparation and they make sure every bag has everything necessary including chopsticks, soy sauce, and even a soy sauce cup! They divide the hot food and the cold food in the to-go bag. They put much thought into to-go orders.

This was a surprise. We met a friend there to try it out and it was awesome. I had the steak and chicken and the chicken was the best that I have had in along time at a hibachi place. We will defiantly be going back!!!

Authentic, fresh, delicious sushi! Our waiter was so attentive and friendly. The sushi chef is incredible! Ichiban is kind of tucked away in west Ashley but is well worth the trip from any where in Charleston! Absolutely my new favourite in the area.

This time I went to Ichiban to get sushi, Sushi Chef Leo helped me and my husband choose what to eat. The experience again was great, service was fast and there when I needed them. They definitely have the best sushi in Charleston. There was a birthday party while I was dining and it looks so fun back in the hibachi room, looks like I’ll be back for my birthday! I’m giving them a 5 star this time! Thank you Ichiban Charleston

Think this used to be Kim’s back in the day. They have Fusion 6.95 lunches of choices of meat, rice, and salad or miso soup. It comes exactly as stated above… so if you want mixed vegetables with your meat. order the lunch that saids«mixed vegetables» and add meat. I’m so used to getting some vegetables like cabbage or onions or some vegetable with oriental meat or rice dishes… I didn’t expect just meat and sauce and plain brown rice. The soy sauce in the container on the table was extremely salty… so a little drop will do ya. They have«lunch boxes» on the menu, which in Japanese terms would be a bento box with meat, rice, a few pieces of sushi, salad or miso soup. There are other items on the menu… standard hibachi stuff, noodle dishes, sushi, etc. There is a good size sushi bar area. Good service and reasonable prices. .pleasant décor/atmosphere. My favs for Japanese still remains Sake House & Sushi 101, but I would eat here again and if you haven’t it’s worth a shot.

We’ve been here twice now and both times its been pretty good experience. Ask for Gambi. He’s very entertaining and of course will do sake shots with customers. I was very impressed that we got in and sat down in less than 10 minutes on a Friday night. Price is reasonable. I got the Filet and Lobster. The filet was cooked perfectly even though I asked for Medium the meat was still moist and flavorful as you would expect at a Hibachi Grill. Brought the family from out of town and they had a great time.

We’ve been to Icihban since they’ve reopened and were not very impressed the first time around. However, after reading Dave C.‘s review I figured we’d give it another shot. What do you know, when I checked in Unilocal said the Dave C. was there earlier in the day. I was going to pick up lunch togo, but since the sky decided to open up I went ahead and got a table for one. No, I’m not afraid to be a solo diner. City Paper is a a great +1 sometime. I used a coupon on the back of my Harris Teeter receipt to get a free appetizer and ordered the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. The dish was played nicely and well prepared. Perfectly cooked so neither shrimp nor vegetable were overcooked. The tempura was nice and crispy and stuck to the food. I ordered the 2 roll maki special with a Boston Roll and Spicy Tuna. Not a bad deal for $ 8.95 with a soup. I will say a few other sushi places in the neighborhood do he same lunch special for a dollar less. Both rolls were simple yet delicious. I had enough food to still take home some goodies in a togo box and my bill was under $ 10 can’t beat that. I have two complaints: –on our first visit we brought the flyer we got in the mail that said sushi was 50% off that specific night. When we sat down we were informed they weren’t doing half priced sushi anymore, but did honor it since we had the flyer. I was a little confused why they would quit a special they literally just mailed out to the community. –there were a few questions my server could not answer about a sushi roll and the tempura app. She was very friendly and polite, but still never got accurate answers.

I don’t like to give out five star reviews. Reason being; I think there is always room for some improvement in terms of price, service, ambiance, etc… but based upon my first experience at Ichiban for lunch today, they absolutely deserve a five star rating. Anyone who frequents the West Ashley side of Cosgrove knows that Ichiban has been under construction for quite some time… years in fact. A few months ago we finally started to see the final touches being put on the building and they reopened. After reading a couple of other Unilocalers’ low reviews I was skeptical, but still thought the place was worth giving a try because the complaints seemed to be a little bit off base and/or strange. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but let’s face it, some people are just weird and you can usually tell when you read their assessments of places. Fast forward a few months… the wife and I have now mentioned that we should get over to Ichiban to give it a try at least 20 times while driving by. Their $ 6.95 lunch special sign flowing in the breeze was certainly enticing… why haven’t we gone yet? Well, as fate would have it, we were basically forced to go to Ichiban today. Our original plan was Red Orchid Bistro, one of our local favorites, but a FREAKPOWEROUTAGE in the entire strip center where Red Orchid is located dashed those plans. Tony, the manager/owner was hilariously apologetic and handling the whole situation well, but we still needed lunch and our number one option was stolen from us… where to go? ICHIBAN! I know that was a long build up, but let me tell you that it will be worth it. As soon as Colleen and I walked into Ichiban, we were amazed by how well the renovations turned out. The place is downright swanky inside, complete with illuminated starlit ceiling. It actually feels like more of a lounge and anything else, but in a very comfortable way… and I do mean comfortable, I’m pretty sure their booths are made with memory foam. We checked out the lunch and dinner menus and pricing was extremely reasonable. The wife got salmon hibachi which came with veggies and rice and a salad to start($ 7.95), and I got the three sushi roll lunch which also came with a salad($ 10.95 — pictured). You also had the option to get soup instead of salad but it’s summer time in Charleston which is not exactly soup weather. Both of our dishes were really well prepared and seriously tasty! Great portions and high quality ingredients. One of my main pet peeves is when salmon is overcooked, but Colleen’s came out perfectly prepared. Everyone else around seemed to be enjoying their meals as well — we actually ran into some folks we saw in the Red Orchid parking lot who were in need of some lunch grub. Service was great, and the place seemed to be very well staffed and well managed. All in all, this was an excellent experience and I will absolutely be going back very soon! My only regret is that I haven’t stopped by this place sooner! Amazing.
