Elder-Beerman has decent clothes, but their coupon policy stinks! I took my mother there for the Big Coupon Savings Weekend armed with a 15% off coupon, a $ 5 off $ 25 coupon and a $ 20 of $ 50 rewards coupon that an Elder-Beerman credit card holder gave to my 95-year old mom. When we got up to the checkout with our purchases, none of the coupons could be redeemed! That’s because there’s lots of fine print that makes them mostly worthless: Here’s a list of exclusions: Bonus Buys, Super Buys, Incredible Values, Yellow Dot/Black Dot merchandise, all clearance furniture and Furniture Clearance Center merchandise, Clearance Center merchandise, cause-related merchandise and other charitable items, service departments, special orders, gift cards, salon products and merchandise from Kate Spade, Tempur-Pedic, Under Armour, Vera Bradley, Wacoal and online watches from adidas, A|X Armani, Fossil, Michael Kors and Skagen Denmark. They wouldn’t even redeem the $ 20 off $ 50 rewards coupon because my mother doesn’t own an Elder-Beerman credit card. Pretty outrageous that she couldn’t pay cash and use a rewards coupon that someone«gifted» to her! Even if you’re a card holder, and want to pay cash, you have to ring up the charge on your credit card before they issue you an instant credit.
