Traditional Greeks are very fond of the authentic food here, and it is indeed delicious, as well as a lovely place to dine if you opt to sit outside. Much of it is gluten free and vegetarian, and there are plenty of options for foodies of all tastes. I’m told by a full Brooklyn Greek that the hand rolled spanakopita dough is amazing, the wine list is lovely, the coffees are very good, the olive oil is fabulous and the homemade breads alone are worth going for. I have 2 reasons for the 4-star rather than 5-star rating: 1. For as many GF/Veg options as well as traditional spreads and dips and wonderful Greek olive oil, but no gluten free pita or bread. They give you carrots and celery and charge you extra for it. 2. It is very loud inside. It’s a wonderful date night place if you dine outside. I’ll go again and again either way — that’s how good it is, but they could make it better(GF bread or pita please!).

My family tried Kipos tonight and we were extremely satisfied and delighted. It felt like we were trying Greek food for this first time and I guess we kinda were. I’ve never had Greek food this delicious. Excellent service and atmosphere. Made the drive from Greensboro and without a doubt will be back!!!

I recently hosted a business dinner for 24 at Kipos, and the entire experience was excellent. I would strongly consider Kipos for future business dinners and for personal events as well. The staff made the planning process very easy. Their policies for reserving space and booking events is rather flexible and very customer-focused, especially compared to restaurants in the area. The prices are reasonable, as well. We were in the Icarus room, which was beautiful and spacious. We ordered the regular event menu, which included an assortment of meze, salads, multiple main dishes, and a variety of dessert. The default menu was easily able to accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free diets. The food turned out great, and I personally enjoyed being able to sample so many dishes from the family-style menu. Service by our head waiter, Sia, and his team was excellent. They even brought in a musician to provide some entertainment at the end of our meal. Our attendees were very pleased with dinner, enjoyed the food, and had a good time. I was really impressed with my experience with Kipos, and highly recommend the restaurant, especially for events.

Kipos is a favorite among the foodies in our family, and especially delights those of us who have been to Greece and enjoyed its wonderful food, or lived in Astoria, NY, a predominantly Greek and Greek-American neighborhood of NYC that has amazing restaurants. For Greek food, Kipos is as authentic as they come. We’ve dined at Kipos a few times now in the last few years — for dinner and now brunch — and it just keeps getting better and better. Highlights: The five-star grilled octopus salad, which is served on a bed of frisee, green beans, hard boiled egg quarters, kalamata olives, poached potatoes, and chickpeas, with a delicious lemony vinaigrette dressing. It’s absolutely sublime. Other favorites include Olga’s homemade spanakopita, made delicious with just the right amount of dill to keep it light and served in crazy-generous portions; the ouzo-cured salmon sandwich; and the fried kalamari(not available during brunch). Excellent desserts include the olive oil chocolate mousse with sea salt(YUM!) and ravani, a semolina cake made with almonds on a bed of homemade egg custard and drizzled with honey. The décor is light and airy and service is always pleasant and knowledgeable. We’re FANS!

This is my favorite restaurant in Durham-Chapel Hill area! The food is like home-cooked, super delicious and fresh. You can choose from a wide range of dishes, from appetisers to desserts. They also have the vegetarian option. My personal favorite are Olga’s handmade pies, herb roasted lamb, avgolemono soup and of course, the desserts. Don’t skip the Greek red wines either. On Fridays and Saturdays they have live Greek music and belly dancers. It’s a great atmosphere and sometimes they break plates while they dance. It’s amazing, I’m telling you!

The chicken lemon soup was delicately delicious. Lamb chops were not heavy and like Yia Yia could have made them. I had the NC rainbow trout with oregano and an added special request of hot sauce. The smokey tomato based hot sauce was a Greek style with clove to die for. Portions were perfect without leftovers, but we left plenty full. For the quality, the prices were exceptional.

Kipos is an updated version of the Greek taverna with an airy, well-lit interior and a great selection of local beers and Hellenic wines. On the menu, you’ll find Greek favorites that may be accustomed to like Tzatziki and Souvlaki, but also more obscure dishes that sound as delicious as they are difficult to pronounce. I came here a couple weeks ago for a team dinner and we were seated in the private dining room at the back, which was nice… except for the fact that every so often, the AC would turn on with a deafening rattle and drown out whomever was speaking. That was the only my only qualm with the atmosphere though; our server was fantastic and did a great handling our large party. The food did not impress me very much. But my sample size is one visit, so it could just be that we ordered poorly. I think my favorite part of the meal were the Meze, or appetizers. The Fava Santorini was like a super-salty hummus(except made with yellow split pea), Tirokafteri(feta, chilies, and yogurt) was the tastiest dip, and the Taramosalata(whipped salmon eggs in olive oil) was decent. The real standouts were the grilled octopus, which was simple but flavorful, and the Saganaki, a savory sheep’s milk cheese that they light on fire to shouts of «Opa!». I think we ordered their specials of the day, which showcased different fresh-caught fish. The dishes ranged from flavorless to mediocre in my opinion. Perhaps I didn’t appreciate the subtlety of flavor properly. I think I would have appreciated the meat options more — I will make sure to order those next time.

I love Kipos!(I love any restaurant that will serve me liters of wine without judgment, and I will jump at the chance to come here). Kipos is pretty big and has a nice outdoor seating area. The decorations are whimsical and fun and sometimes there is live music. The food is well priced and the portions are pretty generous depending on what you order. The tables are really close together though so it can get a bit uncomfortable and packed. The calamari didn’t receive great reviews, but the spanakopita and the baked eggplant get rave reviews from me! Huge portions at cheap prices. The shrimp and scallop dish is not worth it. It isn’t perfect every time, but the good outweigh the bad and when the food is good it’s very good; and the extensive wine list doesn’t hurt!

Great food for lunch or dinner. I have eaten here for dinner 2 times and I eat here at least Once a month for lunch. Pro tip: get the beeftekia lunch special. It’s amazing.

Went with a group of ten and were seated in the back in a private room. One note — the air conditioner was very noisy and we had to ask for it to be turned off. Started with the pita platter app which we ordered two for the table. Was quick and light to start. I also had the traditional Greek salad which was awesome. Lots of tomatoes, cucumbers and a large chunk of feta on top. My entrée was the pork skewers which had a nice smokey taste. I will say some at our table were not expecting the grilled smokey flavor and were caught off guard. The person next to me had the trout stuffed with crab and that looked nice as well

Recently went to Kipos for a lunch around restaurant week, so I was able to try a little bit of everything. Lucky me! I loved the atmosphere in Kipos, the exposed wood everywhere, the big bar at the back, and the small bakery in the front. To start, I tried the AVGOLEMONO which has chicken, rice, eggs, and lemon broth. I wanted to try something new and I was pleasantly surprised. It was super citrusy from the lemon so wasa nice light start to the meal. Next I had chicken souvlaki which was good but nothing overwhelming compared to other greek establishments(hence the four stars). BUTTHEN for dessert I had chocolate mousse and that was divine. It was topped with sea salt and was definitely the envy of the table. If it is on the menu, I highly recommend it. If you are looking for good atmosphere go to Kipos and don’t be afraid to take a risk, those are the ones I find that pay off!

Made a surprise choice to go this place. Getting a parking here can be challenging. There is a parking lot next to it but it is shared by other businesses as well. Their outdoor seating is definitely inviting but we chose the cozy interior. It took sometime for someone to take care of us but when our waitress was super friendly. We had Greek feta chili combination spread for our appetizers. The pita breads that came with it was soft and fresh. We ran out of the pita breads but chose the complimentary bread assortment to get at it. The Santorini is a must try. It was super nice. Soft veggie balls on cucumber sauce was a nice hot-cold combination. For entrée, we did the eggplant and it was Meh. Vegetarians are better off with just the appetizers. They did have a belly dancer perform. Felt different. Food deserves a 3 star but out service was excellent which deserves a star on its own. Bottom line: No good veggie entrée but nice appetizers. Good bread.

We have been wanting to come to this place for a long time and we finally made it one Friday night. Thankfully it wasn’t too crowded. Entering I loved the décor and the lights… their patio seating seemed inviting but the chillness in the air restrained us from going there. We started off with the house bread which I thought was interesting as they were baked with olives. For appetizers we had xtipiti which was Greek feta cheese, chilies & yogurt. It was a nice combination with my Greek wine. I loved the santorini which were vegetable fritters with a yogurt sauce. I wish their portion was larger. For entrée we had the baked eggplant which was slightly disappointing. They did have live music and belly dancers which made the evening lively. Overall we had a good time but didn’t end up enjoying the food all that much. Im hoping to return back to try their meat options, which I believe will be better

Three visits I’ve now had and each was superb. Yes the food is expensive but the atmosphere and service continue to amaze. Perhaps the best wait staff and dining existence in the triangle, at a casual upscale restaurant. A group of more than a dozen loud young adults we, divided checks, attentive service, and complementary birthday dessert, clearly the customer experience matters at Kipo’s.

A unique addition to franklin street. With a belly dancer, unique Greek food, and a classy atmosphere, this place really stands out from all the $ 10 or less restaurants on franklin. The ambience was great. Live music, modern yet crisp décor, and very dedicated servers, I really enjoyed my Friday night. The food had some strong flavors. The beef stew was a bit salty but the almond crusted fish special I had was perfectly broiled. The fish was soooo juicy. Also, I’m no fan of lamb but I couldn’t stop going after more of those lamb chops! However, I will admit that the dishes were overpriced(3 small lamb chops for 30 bucks? No thanks…) I asked to switch out my side on my fish entrée and they definitely hesitated but I asked them to see if the chef would do it(y’all know I’m all about the fries) The cheesecake dessert was scrumptious! It had a nice zing to it even though it was«just a cheesecake». The walnut cake was dry and the Greek yogurt on top didn’t do it for me(I thought it was ice cream…) I wasn’t a fan of the belly dancer but some men seemed to be into it! Idk, I’m just not into seeing someone’s bare hips shaking all up in my food, but that’s just me. Overall, food was delicious and the cool atmosphere was great. It’s a great place to relax with friends and enjoy a flavorful meal!

Not hesitant at all to give this place a 5 star rating after my meal tonight! So delicious! Left happy, full(but not in a way that you feel gross about what you just ate), and so pleased with everything Kipos had to offer. I decided to try out the restaurant week dinner menu here and was not disappointed. Kipos is a very cool restaurant inside. The tables are wooden and nice, and it doesn’t feel too crowded even if all the tables are full. The atmosphere really feels like one of an authentic Greek restaurant. It’s very rustic and there’s Greek music playing in the background. They start you off first with some bread, which I would have been just fine with as my meal. The bread really tastes homemade and is crunchy on the outside. They conveniently have olive oil waiting at the table for you as well for a great dipping sauce. The waitress was very nice and the service was quick. I did need help thinking of what I wanted to order and the waitress said she liked everything, which wasn’t very much help but probably true with the meals from Kipos. For appetizers we got the vegetable fritters and the spanakopita. Great options! The yogurt sauce on the vegetable fritters was delicious and a great touch to the crispness of the zucchini. The spanakopita was tasty as well, although the dough could have been a bit more crispy. For my main dish, I ordered the trout. It came with almonds on top and beans on the bottom in a tomato like sauce. The flavor of the fish was spot on and the almonds added a great crunch. The beans were soft and cooked perfectly as well. The dish was very tasty overall. My friend ordered the lamb which was very flavorful and grilled nice too, but some of the bites were a little too chewy for me. For dessert: the chocolate mouse and an almond cake with an orange sauce. Wow to both! The orange in the cake wasn’t overpowering and the cake was soft. The mouse was so rich and had a great chocolate flavor. A good option for restaurant week dinner. I’ll be back here again for sure!

Fantastic dining experience. Staff was friendly, ambiance was enjoyable, and the food delicious. We shared a bunch of dishes and kind of did it tapas style and in my opinion that is the way to go. Here’s what we had: Octopus: Amazing, our 1 year old loved it as well. Super tender and flavorful. Salad(can’t remember the name, it’s the one with feta): Super fresh and came with a TON of feta! Roasted Lamb: This came with potatoes but it said it was by the pound on the menu and didn’t mention the potatoes. This was amazing. It was almost like Lamb ham in the best way. The potatoes were also fantastic. Olives: I mention them because they were awesome. Most places I order olives and I’m like why are they charging me for this, here I was very happy we did. Baked Cheese: This was the one part of the meal I could take or leave. Tasty, but not sure I’d order it again. Hummus: This was good, not the best dish here but a solid representation of hummus. I’d order it again. Dolmas: Solid choice. Obviously home made and super zingy. Another fave of the 1 year old. All in all, I’m likely to come back when visiting Durham and if I lived in the area, I’d likely be a regular here.

I traveled back to Chapel Hill for work this week, and the first place I wanted to go to for dinner was Kipos. And this return visit did not disappoint. YUM! I’m used to visiting Kipos with friends, or at least one other person, and sharing lots of dishes(especially since you can’t skip the delicious appetizers), so I had a hard time figuring out how to order for just one person! I ended up starting with the tirokafteri(feta/yogurt based spread with pita, $ 6) and then ordering the moussaka(eggplant, beef, potato, béchamel soufflé, $ 17). Both were delicious and just as I remembered! Of course, this was a ton of food, but the server boxed the leftovers up and I enjoyed them for lunch the next day — just as good!) Between the music and the décor, I also love the overall ambiance of this place. Bright and inviting, with rustic touches and really interesting lighting. I would love to plan a group dinner or event here!

One word to describe the place: meh… We were so excited to try out kipos for a special occasion, but we were kind of disappointed with the quality of the food. The olive appetizer and complimentary bread was amazing, but the entrees were far lacking and was not worth the price. First, I ordered the oven roasted lamb leg, but it was so hard that one small piece took me a minute of chewing to even become edible. The flavor were not there as well. I had to return it… which was taken away and the waitress suggested the lamb chop instead since they can cook to my liking(a little offended that the waitress assumed that I want my lamb leg cooked to the death instead of edible… in a way, made it sound like it was my fault) The lamb chop was good, medium like how it should be prepared. But since I didn’t know what’s in it, I didn’t know that eggplant was a part of it… which I am little bit allergic to, aka… hives… urgh… regrets regrets regrets. Overall, good atmosphere but way subpar entrees.(I am surprised that the 3 pieces of lamb chop ended up costing $ 30, which the waitress fail to inform us. We will not be back…

Every time I come to Chapel Hill I go to my regular spots but decided to try this spot out and it was excellent!!! The service was wonderful and all the food was delicious. Three of us got different items and loved everything– the meatballs with tzatziki and spanikopita were the perfect size in order to save room for dessert. I had the walnut cake with Greek yogurt drizzled with honey coupled with the Greek coffee(lightly sweetened). My friends ordered root beer with ouzo which sounds weird but was great! They had a great belly dancer too who closed the show with a Greek group dance that we got to participate in
