I’m 36 and I bought my guitar and played my first chords with Micah on November 3rd of this year. I’ve had 6 lessons so far. My learning experience has been fantastic. I always feel comfortable and I feel I am learning a lot. First, I have a very hard time staying focused on anything. Micah recognized this without me having to say anything. He frequently and deftly reigns my focus back into the lessons. Next, I always know what I should be working on and practicing. If I forget anything or have a question, Micah is always quick to respond to me. Our conversations always make me feel like more of a friend than a client. Finally, after only 6 lessons and a break for the holidays, I feel comfortable making up songs in G and C, I’ve learned and played my wedding song(Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by IZ), and I’ve gotten comfortable with some blues, rock, and oldies progressions. I didn’t even know what any of that meant 2 months ago. Thanks Micah! «All right, guys, uh, listen. This is a blues riff in ‘B’, watch me for the changes, and try and keep up, okay?» –Marty McFly

Based on my personal experience I must give him a 1 star. He is a good player however I have witnessed him struggling to explain basic concepts to new players. I have many years of experience playing and still found it difficult to understand his teaching method although I did gain some knowledge during our brief stint of in person lessons. I would have been willing to continue paying the $ 250 /month rate for the 4 lessons a month however he has proven unreliable. If you are looking for a good local teacher to meet with in person you should look elsewhere… He is terminating relationships with many(all?) of his live in person clients in favor of teaching people over the internet and eventually selling a «membership» online lesson program. His actual notification read«My focus is turning to my membership website and creating online guitar courses. Having so many in-person students is taking up time and energy needed to launch online lessons.» Sorry we «took up your time» at $ 250 a month for 4 lessons… Might not be a very good choice unless you want to learn by webcam!

I’ve been an online webcam student with Micah for almost four years now. Yes, Micah does Skype lessons as well as local ones! Let me just say that you likely won’t find a better instructor out there. First of all, Micah does know what he’s talking about. You’ll never find him having to stop and think a moment about what he’s trying to teach you, unless he’s trying to explain something differently. He’ll always find inventive ways to do so. Another thing to mention is that Micah is, well, a Neek. What I mean is that he’s pretty familiar with his Apple/tech products. If you’re a Windows fan just KEEPREADING! Using this unique knowledge of computers and other devices, Micah will help you out with writing, recording and understanding the theory behind whatever songs or concepts you may be going over at the time. This next topic is very convenient, meaning that you can be nearly any age and Micah will still teach you! His schedule is also very flexible, and very, very rarely must he cancel a lesson. As for myself, I started taking guitar lessons from him when I was eleven. It’s been a great journey so far that’s only just begun, and I’m excited to experience the many years to come! — Isaac A.

I’ve taken lessons from Micah for more than a year now, and it’s been a great experience. He is very adept at catering the learning to your skill level and musical tastes. He’s very easy-going so it doesn’t feel like hard work, but you end up learning a lot. Highly recommended.

I guess I’m a «music person,» but never felt like I found the«right» instrument for me. I’ve always seen the guitar as this mystical object that I would never be able to play well. It has six strings, a thousand lines, and way too many people who play it. Like, I’ve seen 4-year-olds on YouTube who play guitar better than I ever will. So I decided to put that dream on the backburner. I stumbled upon Micah by accident, searching online for vocal coaches, and found his site. I was impressed — this guy looked like he really loved his job and his instrument. Within a few hours, I was convinced that I needed to meet him and see what it was all about. I first contacted Micah to not even set up a lesson, but ask him about guitars in general. Any teacher could have said, «Sorry, that’s not what I’m here for, go to a music store» — but he didn’t. Instead, he invited me to his studio to discuss the different kinds of guitars, styles of playing, and what I might like to get started with. He took time out of his day to make sure I was confident about what I wanted, and then went the extra mile, helping me with the purchasing process itself. From the first day, he went above and beyond my expectations. I signed up for lessons without hesitation. As it turns out, Micah is one of the friendliest, funniest, most genuinely kind people I’ve met. He’s patient and has an amazingly intuitive teaching style that will suit anyone, whether you’ve been playing for years or have never picked up an instrument in your life. He starts with the basics while keeping them relevant and interesting so you don’t want to shoot yourself, and cares about your goals and personal style. He’ll adapt to your unique needs and what you want to get out of your lessons. I’ve had several music teachers throughout the years while learning various instruments, and none of them have come close to Micah regarding passion, personality, and quality. Right away, you can tell he’s a great person with his heart in the right place and a true love for music and teaching, and it makes all the difference.

I have not taken guitar lessons from Micah, but I am a musician and I do have a son who has flourished under Micah’s mentoring. I have had several guitar teachers for my high school student and I can tell you that Micah has out-classed them in every way. He is affordable, flexible with his schedule, gives the students more time than they book, does make up sessions, and on top of that, he is an incredibly genuine, all-around great guy. I wish I could clone him and introduce him to my daughter. It can’t get any better than that. So pick up the phone and call this guy before someone else takes your spot!
