Hansen & Co Barber Shop

I’ve lived a lot of places over the past ten years both big city and small towns and Hansen & Co. is one of the best if not the best barber shop I’ve been to not just in C-​U but any where. I recently moved to C-​U and have been very satisfied with the level of service and quality I receive every time I see Lee. His attention to detail in second to none and he tailors my cut perfectly every time, taking my input and throwing his personal touch on it. The shop is very clean, relaxed and there’s always good conversation to join into while you enjoy a cold beverage if there’s a wait.
Hansen & Co. carries a variety of products for your hair and beard needs. You’ve got to check out the Crown Shaving Co. aftershave, it’s pretty much liquid panty dropper and the Iron Heritage Sportster beard oil keeps my man mane soft and fresh all day.
Appointments are quick and easy to make online. Pretty much can’t go wrong with this place. As long as I live in the C-​U Hansen & Co. will be the only place I go. Thanks Lee and Albert.

Just received an awesome haircut. I gave Lee the details of what I usually get, and he ran with it and made it better. I’ll be back.

Walked in for a haircut with Albert. He was quite cordial and was able to squeeze me in before they closed.
I was disappointed that they don’t do hard parts, especially because barbers do the cleanest hard parts — some reason where the customer wouldn’t be able to get a different haircut next time b/​c of the hard part.
Anyways, I went about telling him what I wanted and showed him a picture. He seemed reluctant to cut anything longer than about 2 inches and any style that required a bit of personalization towards the person’s head shape. I.e. I wanted a 2.5″ to 2″ top cut with a 1−2−3 fade on the right side that blended into the top as it moved to the left side. But I ended up settling for a 1.5″ to 2″ cut with a 1 – 2 fade on all sides.
In the end, the cut looked good, classic, very traditional barber. I wouldn’t go here if you’re looking for something a bit more modern — Quiff? No. Undercut? No. Shave, just clippers, or classic military cut? Yes.
I will say that they’re very good at classic cuts and shaves, and the space is spotless and in tip top shape. But they lack a sense of pizzazz and variability that would ultimately take them to a higher level of barbershop. Essentially, they need to change with the times.
The last little thing that tipped the scales in terms of a 3-​star to a 4-​star review was this: I had Albert put some product in my hair after he cut it. He took a large amount of pomade and worked it into my hair and slicked it back. I could feel every pass of his comb picking up globs of extra product and turning my head into a helmet. I ended up washing most of it out when I got home, but after playing around with it, got it to look the way I wanted.
I could say a few more things, but it would just end up being repetitive.
Tl;dr they do good shaves, good clipper cuts, and will make you look like a 70’s greaser, but don’t expect anything too modern from them. Their vision is as old as the techniques that form it.

In fact, I got to say he’s the best barber I ever had.

I got one last great haircut in Ann Arbor before I moved here to C-​U, and I was kind of worried about finding a new place that was on par with my last barber (which was a weird but wonderful place). Well, I needn’t have worried.
Lee’s shop is very comfortable, and he’s a really great barber who charges very reasonably for very smart, great haircuts. I agree with the prior reviewer who notes Lee’s ability to size up a person’s head shape and hair type and give a cut that really makes sense. I’ve never been happier with a haircut, and I’m all set for my barber needs!

Lee is a really cool guy. Super friendly and has a great job of giving you the cut you’re going for. The shop is clean and has a good vibe.

Lee is the Man. An old school, no-​nonsense barber who knows his trade. His sense of style is amazing-​he knows what’d look good on you, and has the ability to make it happen. Worth the drive to St. Joe, and I live in Danville.
