Awesome host that sat us! Terrible service, sub par bartender, and mediocre food that is portioned for a child and priced for a CFO.

Posting a review exchange originally from Facebook. Originally rated as a 2 due to the fact that it is not family friendly(first restaurant we’ve ever dined at without hi-chairs or booster seats). However, the owner/chef’s defensive and hostile response indicates that customer service is also not a top priority(although I have nothing negative to say about our short exchange with the hostess despite the owners statement about a rude exchange). To sum it up, if you are looking for an overpriced burger joint where children are unwelcome and is owned and operated by an individual without a sense of how to treat customers this might be the place for you. Otherwise I would suggest another location. Original Facebook exchange This is the second time I’ve stopped in at this place and walked out. The first time it was a beautiful sunny spring day and they wouldn’t serve on the patio. Today, I stopped in with my Daughter and husband and they didn’t even have a booster seat or high chair. And the entire restaurant was completely empty. I won’t be returning again. Union Hill Response This is the chef and owner. I wanted to respond to you about your comments. I just wanted let you know that I’m sorry I didn’t let you sit outside that time basically because it was not to my expectations. I reserve every right to close certain sections of my restaurant and I certainly will not explain myself to you why I chose to close it. I am sorry that I don’t have booster seats and Again, I certainly do not have to explain that to you. I also wanted to let you know, Darla Mitchel, that today — you do not have the right to be rude to my manager because I do not have high chairs. Since I can’t accommodate your request for a high chair or booster then — let’s agree that this is not the place for you. All of our customers who require a booster chair or high chair bring their own and enjoy our food and our atmosphere. I wish we could have you as a customer but I don’t feel that I can fulfill your expectations at this time. Have a wonderful summer. Executive Chef

Ate there last night for the first time in over a year. It was not as good as I had remembered. Prices have gone way up. $ 26 for 2 pieces of fried chicken and that is the second least expensive thing on the menu. The motivation for writing this review however was the service. Service was poor to non existent. Nearly every time I wanted something from the waitress I had to flag her down. Flagged her down to order. Flagged her down to pick up the plates after someone else had dropped off togo boxes. We sat there for what seemed like 20min before she showed up after the boxes were dropped off. Duh! If we have togo boxes loaded up we’re done! The finishing blow was the 20% tip added to the tab. YGBSM! For a party of 5 including two kids. I usually tip 20% for standard service(math is easy). I was already trying to decide if my conscience could live with 10%. When the check came with 20%!!! already included I was done. I will not be back.

We passed by this place a few weekends ago and I started reading up on it. Gave it a try for lunch yesterday and I’m glad we did! Very friendly and attentive service when we arrived. The waiter was a bit soft spoken at first, but that improved throughout the meal. We got the dates w/chorizo and gorgonzola cream to start. These were like bacon wrapped dates on steroids. I thought the flavors really worked. For my entrée I actually got another app and a side, the crab bites and brussels sprout hash. Crab bites were tasty! They seemed to have more of a mustard base than mayo and that worked for me. The hash was good as well. The sprouts were cooked perfectly. There was a lot of balsamic glaze on the plate! I love balsamic, but if you don’t, you may want to try something else. Mom had the Caesar salad, said it may have been the best she’s ever had. Dad had the burger w/house made bbq. He doesn’t do bread so it wasn’t pretty, but the waiter suggested a lettuce wrap, which was very thoughtful and I was told it tasted good. The fries were amazing. Get a side of them no matter what you order. I hope to go for dinner soon.

Amazing experience. I had to go back twice to make sure. This progressive resturant is nestled in the heart of Chamblee minutes from the PDK airport and I must say it is a diamond in the rough. Amid a myriad of other themed restaurants it stands alone because immediately its ambiance embraces you. The wait staff(Mauricio and Tasha) are courteous and knowledgeable and will bend over backwards to assist with whatever you need. The Culinary experts(Ayshia and Nicole) under the incomparable Chef Alexis understand clearly the vision and execute to perfection. The food is a divine awakening of flavorful intent Married with cognitive beauty that awakens both the primal and the intellectual palate. From delicate scallops to pork the plating and execution astonishing. Even the burger freshly ground and topped with crisp veggies and a orange Barbque arrangement that is to die for. Only to be further aided by Tuscan pommes frites crispy but spicy and NOT greasy are one of the many Hallmarks of a brand that has been established with sweat equity. I look forward to visiting again to try the lunch and dinners specials but from all accounts I am sold and it’s worth the visit to waste the day away watching the trains with such a dedicated group of professionals.

The food was decent, took 42 minutes to arrive, never received any refills on our drinksite and barely saw our server. He was polite, but not a pro at all. There are better restuarants in the Atlanta area that are more deserving of our patronage.

A different side of Chamblee. Don’t lie, you know we all see most of Chamblee/Doraville as the Mexican/Asian food Mecca. So seeing restaurants like Union Hill Kitchen in such close proximity always piques my interest. I made a reservation for 5 at 8:30pm since our schedules worked out that way. We didn’t realize it was right before closing, but even then, it seemed like there was still a nice crowd dining in. When you first walk in, you instantly pressed up against the bar with not much room for anything else, but don’t worry, there is plenty of seating in the back. Our server seemed pretty busy but we were able to place our order quickly. She seemed hard to reach once we got our food. Prices are a bit steep, but the food was tasty. I ordered the Lamb Ropa Vieja, which was unexpectedly delicious. It was a pasta type dish with some great flavor. Reminded me of a curry but with a Cuban twist. Of all the other dishes I tried at my table, mine was definitely my favorite. Overall, food is definitely a little overpriced, especially for Chamblee, but tasty. Eating at a restaurant opened by a celebrity chef is always a fun experience. However, it is just a bit pricey for the area and the menu.

Food was decent for fried food. WAY overpriced. Mojitos were good, but certainly not worth $ 11 per. Server, Taucia, was friendly. Ambience was nice and the music was good. The chef/owner spent lots of time visiting other tables but NEVER stopped to say hello or inquire of our enjoyment. One time destination

I stop in this place on Saturday afternoons for a beer and burger. Dog friendly patio. Very good service. I’ve had the Cuban sandwich and the chicken burger from the lunch menu — both great. They offer my beer(stella draft). The inside bar is small, but it’s fine. My only suggestion is that if you’re gonna have a big screen TV playing sports behind the bar, pay a little extra for HD service. I’d probably stop in more to drink beer/watch sports if they had HD … I realize it’s not a «sports bar» but IJS.

2.5 rounded up. They have pretty good burgers here. I got the Union Hill burger($ 10), which is their basic burger. It was really good. The meat was cooked well and the bun was soft. I thought they could put more lettuce(or just more veggies at that) on there other than the sad little romaine I got. I don’t know what direction they’re going with the minimalist veggie thing. The other Unilocal photos show more veggies. I don’t know what happened that day. It doesn’t come with a side but that’s not untypical at a restaurant like this. The fries on my friend’s burger was pretty good. They weren’t overly soggy or salty. The place is an old converted gas station or something but they made it all hipster so it looks pretty cool. It’s not that huge. It can probably seat around 20 – 25 not including the bar. The service was decent without a smile. I could see her trying to be polite and professional. One of the burgers came undercooked so went sent it back and they made a whole new burger. I think that’s excellent customer service. Well done. I wanted to order something other than a burger. They have a small dinner section on their lunch menu but they’re still dinner prices ranging $ 25 – 31. Too much for lunch. It’s kind of pricey for non-burger items. Overall, it’s a good burger place but I don’t think I can shell out the money for anything else there.

Great little spot right in downtown Chamblee. Very diverse menu. I highly recommend the fried chicken(boneless), and everything I’ve had here has been outstanding and in plentiful portions. Chef Alexis is outstanding at his craft, and all the folks that work here are extremely friendly and welcoming. I’ll be back soon!

I’ve noticed quite a few reviewers casting this place as a burger and salad joint. They couldn’t be more wrong. If you’re looking for a burger/salad joint(essentially bar food), don’t come here. This is a classy-without-being-pretentious local restaurant serving up delicious cocktails(seriously, try the Burnt Caramel Old-Fashioned) and thoughtfully crafted dishes, topped off with an attentive staff and a passionate chef. I can’t speak for the lunch hour, but Union Hill Kitchen is a great place to meet friends for dinner. The atmosphere was perfect and the food was fantastic. It’s one of Chamblee’s gems. Five stars for the quality of food, the huge portions, the attentive staff, friendly chef, and out of this world old-fashioned. Not a thing was amiss tonight.

My friend and I came here for the first time today for lunch(Wednesday). There is good number of parking spaces available. Inside is very modern. It was slow for lunch hour. hmm… I like the décor and plenty of natural lighting. We were seated and given menus. The lunch menu is simple. It primarily consists of burgers, salads, and few other things. I ordered salmon burger with fries. My friend got Union Hill burger with fries. The food was pretty good. They were made fresh. I really like the buns used for the burgers. The fries on the downside were limp. Like. limp limp. They should be sturdy and crispy! I still ate them all. I was hungry. The service is terrible. The guy server was friendly. But the service was SO slow. My friend and I chatted maybe 15 – 20 minutes before the food finally arrived. After we finished our meal, we waited awhile for the checks to arrive. So definitely this is not a spot for a quick lunch for busy professionals. This is a spot for people who have nothing to do afterwards and in no rush. If the service was fast and food comes out fast, I would give it a 4. If the service was fast, food comes out fast, AND if the fries were crispy, I would give it a 5.

I pass by this little spot a couple of times a week and I always say, «One day I’ll stop in for a bite.» I finally stopped in for a bite and I’m glad I did! The menu has a few minor modifications to some classic favs. We had the fried chicken sandwich and the salmon salad. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken sandwich. The crispiness of the fried chicken batter surrounded a moist, tender breast inside. The chef uses a cinnamon onion paste of sorts in some of the dishes and it really gave this classic sandwich a little something extra. My friend had the Caesar salad with salmon. My friend did not like the way the lettuce looked but the chef made a new salad for her with no problem. She enjoyed the freshly made salad. There were a few other menu items that I need to go back and try, not to mention, the dining experience is not complete without trying the cocktails. I’ll be back!

My fiancée and I live down the street from Union Hill, and we decided to try it for a date night on a Friday evening. We made our reservation on open table for 7pm; we arrived early and were seated immediately with no trouble. Our server, Allison, provided great recommendations throughout, starting with some cocktails and an appetizer. My fiancée had the Burnt Caramel Old Fashioned and I had the Chef’s Special Martini; both were incredible. My fiancée said it was one of the best cocktails she’d ever had. For our appetizer, we had the Ahi Tuna; this is a new menu item, and, in my opinion, a great addition. Delectable rare ahi tuna minced and mixed with peppercorns, served with toasted pita bread: fantastic. For our entrees, we had the Hudson Fried Chicken and the Scallops. My chicken was perfect. Huge portion of chicken, perfectly breaded, served with an impressively delicious Brussels sprout hash and mashed potatoes. The chicken and Brussels sprouts were incredible(read: unbeatable); the mashed potatoes, while tasty, were simple and not particularly memorable. My fiancée’s scallops had great flavor. I felt her portion was a little small for the price, but she was amply satisfied. Besides, the flavor was fantastic. There is no question that the food at Union Hill Is amazing. What really seals the deal for me, though, is the staff. When I commented on the perfect ambiance and impeccable service, the manager informed me that, upon opening, the intention was to create an atmosphere in which guests felt as if they were visiting the home of a close friend. The owners of Union Hill have absolutely succeeded in this. Multiple times throughout our meal, the manager and our server stopped by to ensure that our meal was delicious(it was). We were even offered a splash of delectable Chardonnay to sip on as we waited for our check. Seriously, if you want great food and unbelievable service in a beautiful atmosphere, head to Union Hill. You won’t regret it.

I chose to come to this place since I’ve driven by it everyday for the last few months. When I got there I was welcomed with a handshake and introduction(that’s pretty good ownership if you ask me). On this particular day, the windows were open and it was so nice to have the outside air without sitting outside. Everyone at my table ordered from their various burgers, which at first the $ 18 price surprised me. Once the food came out, everyone was in silence eating their half cow of a burger. My dad said it was the best burger he has ever put in his mouth. I could definitely see myself coming back here for a more intimate setting and ordering another dish. The music is a little loud for a big party to be talking over, but if you were with just two people I think it would be fine. The outdoor patio was amazing and I can’t wait to go have a drink out there.

The place is located in Old Chamblee in a converted gas station near the antique shops. The outside patio with nice chairs and umbrellas make it a perfect place to enjoy dinner or a few drinks. We were warmly greeted by owner and staff. Our table for two was inside but felt outside since the garage door was up. It was a beautiful evening. The bar area is very inviting. The maitre’ area had some lovely paintings on the wall. We ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio but it was served nearly at room temperature. I requested that my glass be iced with water to make the glass cold which took longer than it should have taken. The wine still was too warm to my liking. We ordered the caramelized onion dip with crisp pita chips to share as an appetizer which was quite small but tasty. The small cup it was in could not be used for dipping. One is better off using a fork to spread it on the chip. I ordered the Hudsons Fried Chicken. To my surprise it was very bland and I would not recommend this dish. The mash potatoes were tasty and the finely chopped broccoli was ok. It was way overpriced at $ 24. My friend had the crab cakes which came with fresh fries. She enjoyed the crab cake and took the other one home. The fresh fries were very good since I got to taste one. The tab was $ 98 before tip.

GREATFOOD, GENUINECUSTOMERSERVICE… what else is there? The staff at Union Hill Kitchen, from the hostess and server, to the co-owner and head chef, all take great pride in their establishment and where they work. Despite arriving for dinner at 9:00PM when their kitchen closed, they greeted my fiancé and I with big smiles and recommendations of tasty dishes to try. We started with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir(David Bruce, Russian River), and the Beet Tartare. Beets are one of only a few items I don’t usually care for; however the way this appetizer was prepared made them very good. It came with four crostini, and was prepared in the consistency of a spread to top the bread. It had just the right amount of sweet and pickled taste. For entrees, we shared the Hudson County Fried Chicken and the Steak Asado & Chimichurri. Both were very good but if we had to choose the favorite of the two, it would be the fried chicken. It’s not too heavy, and the chicken is extremely moist. The chimichurri that came with the steak was quite tasty, although it was different than your traditional chimichurri in terms of the color and thickness of the sauce. Throughout the evening the co-owner, chef, and server all checked on us which really added to the experience. I would highly recommend dining at Union Hill Kitchen so you can see what great service and food is all about!

There were many reasons that I didn’t give this place a try until now. One being that I was let down by Southbound that I did not want to try neighboring restaurants and the other being that it just seemed like a very small café. First time that my interest was sparked was during Taste of Chamblee. It was the last food stand to open but we had saved just enough tickets for it. We had the braised pork and some kind of soup. Soup was cold, but understandable since we had rushed the staff to hand out the food before they were ready as we were anxiously waiting. Braised pork was mildly on the salty side, but still very tender and delicious that it made me want to try this place out. On top of it all, we had received a gift card from a friend, so more reasons to try. For appetizer, we had the mussels and it was delicious. The sauce was different from the usual white sauce that you usually see at every restaurant. On top of the white wine sauce, they had added marinara sauce to give it more heartiness and the mussels were perfectly cooked. Only drawback was the bread that it came with. We had wish it was on the softer side to soak up the sauce. For entrée, I had the spaghetti bolognese. Spaghetti was bland but the sauce was on the salty side to balance out the flavor. Also, tried the hudson country chicken and it was very juicy and moist, but the sides that it came with it was on the saltier side. Maybe, it is the restaurant’s theme, which is present bland and salty components to balance out the meal. Overall, food is good and flavorful but semi-salty. I usually do not drink much water in general, but I have noticed that I was downing water throughout the meal. We ended the meal with the salted pretzel brownie. I was hoping that the brownie would be more dense and chocolatier. Also, it was minor let down compared to the outrageous price. I would give this place a 3.75

I went to union hill lasts Tuesday for lunch with a colleague and was underwhelmed. It’s a cute little restaurant but my salad was quite sad. I ordered the summer salad or something like that is was called. It was iceberg/romaine blend(which screams cheap), sunflower seeds, drunken cranberries(tasted liked they were soaked in vodka, good in theory, gross in real life), and I believe blue cheese. I added grilled chicken to the salad. It was edible, but that’s the best compliment I can give it. To be fair the menu does give warning that the salad is iceberg/romaine, it’s the only green they have. My friend got the salmon sliders which she enjoyed but I’m surprised she could even taste them! The salmon patty was the size of a half dollar. Really small and thin. Maybe union hill does dinner better. Or maybe their burgers are better.
