Best Mexican place in this area it’s more of a Tex mex rather than homemade Mexican margaritas are awsome

I’ve been here several times. I’m never«wowed» by the food, but I haven’t been terribly disappointed either. I suppose the cuisine is a bit uninspired, if you will. I preferred Tony’s on Paris Road, but that place has since closed. Ultimately, if you’re in Da Parish and craving Mexican food, El Patron will suffice. Today, I ordered a combination plate: chili con carne, beef taco, enchilada with rice and beans. The beans had a nice meaty flavor and the rice was fluffy, as desired. The other items tasted fine and I left pleased. I’ll likely be back but I’ll probably never say, «I must have El Patron.»

This place is kinda hit and miss, sometimes the salsa to spicy and other times mild, tonight it was right on, I had the fajita burrito and was very good, my wide 2 hard tacos and she enjoyed them. We from outta town and visit family here regular and often come here and will return.

Wife and I decided to try. Been passing it for so long, always full of cars — had to be worth trying. The food was good. Wife hated what she ordered and after careful inspection of one of their ‘specials’ of the day we came to the conclusion that it might have been re-heated leftovers. The service was terrible. I think that tainted the entire evening. Server sat us, took drink order. Brought drinks, took food order. Food came. Then we did not see him again for about an hour. Once I started looking around and making«I am ready to get the heck out of here movements» like pushing my plate away. Putting my napkin on the table, etc. He brought check. Put cash in and left. TERRIBLE service. Not once refilled drinks or bothered to check on us. I really wanted more salsa. Oh well. Never waste my time or money there again.

Really good Mexican food! The salsa is hands down best, if you like it a little spicy. Perfect. Any dish with their ground beef is worth the trip. The steak fajitas are done well but I can’t get el gato negro fajitas out of my mind. The staff is courteous and prompt even when the restaurant is near capacity.

Use to love this place… But like most places over time, the prices went up and the quality went down. Sad

Ate here last week, just moved fom Tx and looking for some decent Tex-Mex, this is not it. Not bad just not good, won’t be back. Got to be better in the NO area than this.

I love Mexican food but the food was plain & boring. The service wasn’t the best either… it wasn’t crowded, yet it took awhile for the waiter to take our order, bring the food & even longer to get the bill. if you’re in the mood for Mexican food, take the extra drive and leave St. Bernard Parish!

This is the kind of Mexican Restaurant I’ve been looking for! Love the food and the atmosphere. My hubby and I had our date night here and it was fabulous!

I had the California Burrito and was really huge and quite tasty. It had chicken, fajita beef, and huge shrimps. I could only eat half. My wife had her typical taquitos and loved them especially with the excellent guac. Chips were fresh and warm and loved the little salsa carafe. I give El Patron 5 stars because it’s one of a small handful of Mexican restaurants in all of the N.O. area where service was excellent and their prices are BELOW market rates. If you’re comparing across the board to all restaurants in the New Orleans area you can’t beat it. We’re from L. A, CA and there are many lousy Mexican restaurants there. I jones for Mexican food at least 1 – 2 times a week and I wish them success!

Cheap. Quick. Clean n colorful. But nothing spectacular. I would venture to say they use simple ingredients.. but not top notch. Enchiladas okay. Cheap cheese. Queso was lacking. Chalupa was great. Guac very tasty. Table salsa really good. Could all be less salty. Can’t beat it price wise. Excellent service!!!

Decent mexican food for a very picky Texan. :) Prices are cheap and service is generally very fast. You get your money’s worth!

Personally I think this is the best Mexican restaurant in St. Bernard Parish and I know a lot of people who love it too. I always get the vegetarian plate but it is HEAVY on the cheese(albeit very tasty!). Décor is a little tacky but as long as the food is good I’m a fan. Prices are very reasonable.

Pretty run of the mill faux Mexican food. Not many vegan options, but the guacamole is EPIC. Best I have had in a long time. My bean burrito was boring, and probably had lard in the beans. Service was pretty good, considering I was in a huge group. I was working, so I can’t vouch for the margaritas. Décor is nice in some spots, but WEIRD all around. Really nice paintings next to tacky plastic decorations from party city. Less is more, guys. I give them props for having a vegetarian section, but everything was cheesed-up, so dieters and vegans beware.
