Some things are worth the trip, this was not. We took a trip there to give the kids a little something different to do, since they advertise a petting zoo. Petting zoo is a strong word, more like Pay $ 2 for some crushed corn to feed my goats and chickens.
The look out views of the different points of interest were partially blocked by trees and there was very little explanation of what we were supposed to be looking at.
The trading post (store) was pretty junky and looked like a place that the TV show «American Pickers» would avoid.

Disappointed… owners with 0% personality like they didn’t want you there. Would have stayed longer, bought more but the owners were gruff and rude. Only negative of a week in New Mexico. Shop had nice merchandise, views were cool, petting zoo was just ok. Skip giving them your $ and take pictures for free of this little town from yesteryear!

On our way down the Turqoise Trail to Madrid, Porko saw a sign for the petting zoo, squealed, and exited to Cerrillos.
We found a tiny little gift shop with random items, a museum, and a «petting zoo» which was really more of a gated off area with a llama, three goats, and super chickens.
The chickens were awesome because they were wearing pantaloons and hats. Not really, but their feathers made it seem that way.
$ 2 for a bag of animal feed, priceless pictures, and you can go on your merry way.

Cerrillos looks like a ghost town driving up on HWY 14 — and so we thought we would quickly drive through, take some cool pictures and move on. And so slowly we made our way through this incredibly picturesque town and took some great pictures, and at the end of town found ourselves at the Casa Grande Trading Post. Check out the photos of this place — it’s stunning. And the merchandise inside represents some of the coolest turquoise peices mined right in Cerrillos. Seriously — we had grown sick of the shops in Santa Fe and Taos and found the merchandise and setting of this store to be very authentic feeling, well priced, and well edited.
Take the drive to Cerrillos and Madrid and make your way to this trading post — it’s really a special spot.
