Waitress didn’t offer options for seating. Front table where we were sat was disgustingly sticky. The St. Louis ribs were tough, burnt and dry. Bathroom had busted lights and front of restaurant had lights out on all but one of their 6 fans. Service was as bad as the food. If we could give it zero stars, we would.

First time I went… great meal. Second time I went, great meal. Third and last time I’ll go… they changed all the sides(no okra or sweet potato fries) and the sandwitch portion was much smaller. Great location and TVs but nix on the food.

This place has changed to smoky joes bbq. I didn’t care for this place all that much. The portion size were teeny tiny, nothing like what you’d expect from ‘murican bbq. the taste of the bbq brisket that I got was pretty neutral and their bbq sauce reminded me of store bought sauce. We also got jalapeño poppers, the batter used was great, but the poppers themselves were skimpy with the cheese and bacon that was supposed to be inside. On the plus side, the waitress was very nice.

Tonight was the first time we had a meal from Big Hoss in Southglenn. I ordered 2 meals for take out. Disappointing to say the least. One the 2 meat plate I ordered brisket & chicken, both were fair not much flavor nor was the meat tender. My sides were salad and sweet potato fries, which I was charged $ 1 each for, but no mention of that anywhere on the online menu, told that was extra when asked. Got home with no dressing for the salad. The fries were not even a bit warm. And the bread that comes with the plate is a half of a piece of toast– that is about as cheap as you get. After reading the last few reviews, I thought the meal would be really good. Not sure if I will try again in the restaurant or not. We could use a good bbq joint around here and this is not it.

The food at Big Hoss is excellent. I’ve been here a few times with friends and we all left fat and happy after lunch. They have great burgers and really excellent barbecue, and some of the sides are really amazing. I loved their Macaroni & Cheese and everyone at the table grubbed on the Cheesy Corn. OMG was it good! I could make a meal just out of the sides. The bar is great — really open with lots of TVs and drink specials. They seem to specialize in canned beers and have only two beers on tap. That was a bit of a bummer, but at least the cans they had featured some great craft beers. I am curious why there was a keg of Great Divide DPA in the back hallway but it wasn’t offered on tap? I guess they’re waiting for something else to run out before we get a chance to drink that one. Come on Big Hoss, quit teasing and get that beer on tap! Overall this is a fun place with good food, good beer, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood.

This place has a lot of nice TV’s giving it a good sports bar type feel. The Meat Plate with Pulled Pork is excellent and Cheesy Corn with a touch of bacon and jalapeño is one of the best sides I’ve ever had! The Jalapeño/Cream Cheese Burger is also very good. $ 1.50PBR’s during happy hour… you really can’t go wrong there.

The barbeque itself is fairly average. There were a couple things here I just flat out did not care for. The mustard sauce. Blech! Unlike any other mustard sauce I’ve ever tried and not in a good way. Second, the cheesy corn was not what I was expecting and I didn’t like it. It was basically a relatively small amount of corn swimming in what I can only describe as spicy nacho cheese sauce. The environment was what you would expect from a restaurant in an outdoor suburban strip mall. I got the sandwich with brisket and sausage topped with fried pickles. Now, it seems to me that one of the cardinal rules of food presentation is that the diner should know how to eat the food given to them. This holds true for everyone from McDonald’s to Per Se. So when I get a sandwich with an entire fried pickle spear on it, I can’t help wondering what is going on. Am I supposed to cut it up and put it on the sandwich? Kind of difficult since its fried and why not just serve fried pickle chips? Or is it supposed to be eaten on the side? Why is it on the sandwich then? You get the point. Anyway, I was less than impressed overall and most likely I will not be returning.

Stopped in for a quick lunch and brew. Tried the BBQ Nachos and was thrilled. The pork was savory and the toppings generous. My boyfriend was pleased with his ribs, although they could have been more tender. Oddly, a plastic spoon was unearthed beneath his ribs. Why a small plastic spoon was on his plate is something we’ll never know, but they did offer us a discount on our meal. My only complaint is that the online menu doesn’t apply to this location. Apparently, the Big Hoss web site only applies to the Denver location. The Southglenn location is a separate franchise with a smaller, limited menu. They should stipulate this on the web site, as we were disappointed not to find the food we’d planned on. Service was standard. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here again, but I’d choose Big Hoss over some of the other restaurants at Southglenn.

We were all craving BBQ and decided to try the new BBQ restaurant close to us. We usually stay with what we like but wanted to try something new. BIGMISTAKE. Called for take out and they gentleman was not helpful at all. NO specials or deals to speak of. We picked it up and when we opened the 1 lbs of brisket it was 4 thick, fatty pieces and the pulled pork was just fatty and disgusting. Mac and cheese was beyond mush and the beans were more than al dente. For the price of everything I was expecting a little more quality and it was not. We will be going to our good olé BBQ place where a buck actually gets you something and quality at that.

Buck-a-Bone ribs and 1.50PBR what more could a guy ask for? Happy Hour is the only way to go at this rib joint! I have honestly never dined here during regular menu hours, but I have taken a look at the regular menu and while I would say that it has a lot to offer in the BBQ arena, they have definatly got to step up the fressness and consistency of the fare. **On a side note, they have an in house 24hr smoker, the servers and managers are great and there is rumor of the menu changing soon…

Tried this new BBQ location today for lunch. It is worth a look but I don’t think it is going to be a star. We tried the BBQ nachos, and liked them. Served over potato chips. Lots of stuff on top. Sauces are good, not so sure the meats are as good. We had it with pulled pork. Found it did not measure up to the pulled pork at Chipotle. No service complaints, though it was nearly empty when we were there. We will probably head on down to Arapahoe Road next time we get that BBQ craving. Do you think there might be a curse involved to open where another restaurant(Ovens) failed? I do.

I feel the need to update this review. While the food is still good, the service has not improved at all, and may have gotten worse. We have made several trips there, and have experienced completely forgetting to bring items we delivered, to not being able to order specials that are listed right there on the menu. I was told on the last trip they are changing GM’s, but it still seems to be the same old song and dance from a service standpoint. The food doesn’t quite taste as good when the service is sub par.

The baby back ribs were good, the st louis ribs not. St louis ribs were barely warm, chewy sheets of fat. The bked beans are to die for.

I have visited Big Hoss BBQ twice. The first time I went to the Tennyson location, the 2nd the Southglenn location. On my first visit, I ordered ribs. They had a tasty bark, but almost too much bark. They were also pretty spicy, which I like, but I didn’t see any mention of them being spicy on the menu. People who don’t like spicy food would probably like to know that piece of information… The ribs had WAY less meat on them than I normally get at most BBQ places. Overall, I was not impressed. On the 2nd visit, my girlfriend and I both ordered 2 meat combos. When our plates arrived, I was immediately underwhelmed by the portion of meat given. These were NOT $ 16 entrees in terms of the amount of meat. I usually like BBQ beef brisket more than pulled pork, but in this case I liked the pork more. The beef brisket was not very tender and had too much fat on it. I expect some fat in brisket, but not thick gelatinous veins of fat running through the entire cut. The andouille sausage was quite spicy. Again, I love spicy, but this was spicier than most andouille I’ve had before, yet the menu does not point that out. The mac & cheese was our favorite side dish. The cheesy corn had a good flavor, but WAYYYY too salty and a bit too runny. Our server was pleasant and attentive, so I would say the service was good. One curious observation: a well drink is $ 5.50, yet a bottle of domestic beer and a shot of Jack is $ 7.50. Huh? All in all, Big Hoss BBQ is too expensive for both the quality and quantity of their meat entrees. I like Brothers BBQ(which isn’t even my favorite) more and it’s literally half the price…

Big Hoss BBQ is operated by the same folks that run Dusty Boot Steakhouses. The new location in the old Oven Pizza space at South Glenn is serving IMO some pretty darn good BBQ. The rub is bold and has a little spice. The space is small and has a little patio out front. On a Tuesday evening it was crowded. There was adequate staff and despite being young they seemed to know the business, were working hard, and were very friendly. We ordered the half rack of St. Louis Ribs $ 15 and a Two Meat Plate with brisket and sausage $ 16. They have several house made sauces that were very tasty and I actually had to blend the«hot» sauce with some«sweet» sauce to cool it down. The side items of mac & cheese and cole slaw were just okay, but all the meats were flavorful and tender. You can find the complete menu at . They have a full bar with a nice wine & beer list. Only thing on tap is Coors so be prepared to pour your own beer in the glass. Otherwise pretty impressed and will definitely be returning to Big Hoss on a regular basis.

I am a big fan of BBQ, but this place has a long way to go. First there was way too much rub on the meat, it was very over powering, leaving little room for the flavor of the meat. Second, the ribs were small, dry, and tough that they were difficult to eat. Third, the sauces were bland, and very little flavor to them, but that might have been because my taste buds were killed by the rub. The fried okra was meh. It had the consistency of a frozen product. As for the pricing, they were very over priced considering that it only came with one side. At other BBQ joints, I was given larger pieces of meat. The ribs at Hoss were tiny in comparison, and these weren’t even the baby back ribs. The service was fine, but a little stingy when it came to napkins. I mean, I am eating ribs with my hands, I need more than 2 napkins. Ordered ice tea, and I had to ask for a refill. Once the tea came, very little ice in it, so it was a little warm. My friend would have liked a sweet tea, but they didn’t have it. I would definitely not recommend this establishment as a BBQ joint.

Big Hoss BBQ just opened across from the Whole Foods in the Streets of Southglenn. We tried it out for lunch over the weekend, and really liked it! They had the patio open, as well as the full wall of doors from inside to the patio, which was great. Both the hostess and our server were friendly. The beer menu is odd– heavy on cans, light on drafts– but varied enough you’ll probably find something. I had the Kansas city sandwich with pulled pork and a side of fries. The pulled pork was delicious, and the sauce was great– not overly sweet. The bun was toasted nicely, and the fries were decent; some were yummy and crispy, others needed a little bit more time in the fryer. My fiancé had the small order of St. Louis ribs and said they were great. He also liked his sweet potato fries. My sandwich was under $ 10 and the ribs were under $ 15, so it’s not expensive at all. Overall, reasonable prices for good food on an awesome patio in a great shopping center. I’ll be back.

I live in the Southglenn Portola so this place is only about 30 seconds from my door so of course I had to try it out. I read the other review and was prepared for the worst even though the Big Hoss up north gets rave reviews generally. I had the 2 meat plate with brisket and pulled pork, and we also had the fried pickles for an appetizer. The fried pickles were amazing, at first they don’t look like much but the sauce is what makes them, and the pickles were tasty and just the right firmness. I asked the waitress what the sauce consisted of and she said it was a combination of sour cream and bbq sauce. The pulled pork was moist and went well with their original sauce, I was pretty happy with it until I tried the brisket which I thought was the star of the show. It was a bit fatty but hey I didn’t go here to eat healthy, this was a treat for me. All in all my gf and I really enjoyed this place and the service was fast and friendly. Tried some of their beers as well which was perfect to wash down the BBQ.

This location in the Southglenn mall opened on Sunday, March 19, 2012. My office colleagues and I had been expectantly watching the store front go up months prior to this, so it was with pleasure that we ventured to try the joint out. The space is about as you would expect, with a mix of genre pictures, liquor logos and Colorado brewery signs. There are skylights far up on one side of the room, which allows for pleasant natural illumination. I ordered the $ 10 Black & Blue burger, cooked medium, with a side of macaroni and cheese. The burger seemed unnecessarily greasy, though this was not a deal-breaker. It was appropriately cooked to order. The blue cheese had very little detectable blue cheese flavor, and served as more of a textural component. This was disappointing, since without the blue cheese kick, the burger was middling overall. The burger was served with limp, room temperature lettuce and an uninspiring pickle. The first order of macaroni and cheese came out at room temperature as well, but was quickly replaced by our server after we mentioned it. I appreciate that. The second order was hot, but it was simply average, with little flavor of cheese and a heavy mouthfeel that seemed to offer more promise than it delivered. As a point of comparison, please try the macaroni and cheese at nearby Diego Zhang’s(just west and on the other side of Commons Ave.) for what the dish is capable of. Being a craft beer enthusiast, I eyed the beer offerings as I ate. Hoss offers only Coors Light on tap, which I found alarming. In addition to that, there are 13 cans and 6 bottles of primarily out-of-state brews. There were, however, some quality local craft selections such as a $ 4.5012. oz bottle of Hoss rye lager from Great Divide and Mama’s Little Yellow Pils from Oskar Blues($ 4.75 for a 12oz. can). More unusual selections included a 40oz. of Mickey’s for $ 8, as well as a 100oz. tower of Coors Light for $ 18. …OK – these seem more appropriate for the DU neighborhood. I did not ask, but I’m curious about potential happy hour offerings. This could keep Hoss competitive, at least price-wise, with nearby Bar Louie(to the west down Commons Ave.), who slings $ 312oz. pours of numerous craft beers during their happy hour. I will return to Big Hoss to try the more traditional BBQ offerings when the kitchen has a chance to settle in to their groove and report back. I don’t see myself enjoying a beer after work here, at least with the current selection and pricing scale – I wonder what will be done to attract denizens of the mall-located 600-person office building away from Southglenn’s established after-work drink establishments.
