I will start off my saying Barbara Lawson was a decent therapist in the actual therapy sessions. She did help us at times and was good with setting boundaries while in session. However, it was everything else that didn’t make her a good therapist. We went to Ms. Lawson for couple counseling for nearly three years, but not anymore for several reasons. The first is a therapist must have patience with their patients, she doesn’t have that. Patients pay good money to see therapists and when Ms. Lawson cuts a session short because of lack of patience is unacceptable and unprofessional. We consider this a type of theft because of course we didn’t get any money back. The main reason we will no longer give her our business is one of us had an emergency and was forced to cancel an appointment at the last minute. We had never done this before and she had the audacity to charge us a $ 75 late cancellation fee. Nevertheless ten days later we received the bill in the mail and were shocked. We could understand if we had done this before and/or it wasn’t an emergency. We e-mailed her regarding waiving this fee the first time and she agreed to reduce it to $ 40. She stated«This type of situation is the reason for this policy.» This is not true, the type of situation the policy regards is for patients who repeatedly cancel with little or no notice or just don’t show up, not for a one-time cancel(as a result of an emergency) from a very good customer. That $ 40 sure was worth a lot to her! Lastly, we gave her our new mailing address 2 – 3 times to update it in her files and the bill we received was still going to our old address. The USPS still forwarded it to us nine months after moving. In conclusion, we do NOT recommend using this therapist for your counseling needs.
