This place is just OK for me. The beverage prices are fairly expensive for a small bar. There isn’t a lot of room to move around but luckily it isn’t too busy on most nights. The décor looks nice and the bartenders are friendly. They have 1 pool table that takes up most of the back. The bathrooms are tiny and aren’t in very good condition(feels like someone could kick the bathroom doors down). Mahoneys isn’t really a go-to place for me but when I go there, it isn’t too bad overall. Just not outstanding by any means.

This was once a nice little neighborhood bar with an old fashioned feel. The beer cooler was build shortly after wheel was invented. Plus they have Guinness on tap. So we stop in for a drink on Tuesday night(New Year’s Eve Eve) and what to my wondering eyes has occurred but this place has a hipster want-to-be crowd. So, we get our drinks ordered. I go with a pint of Guinness. I see that after about two ounces, the keg blows. He doesn’t even ask if I’m cool with a can of it, he just pours it in and brings it over. I make a comment about it and he goes, «Oh yeah. It’s ok cause cans are only $ 2.» I wasn’t worried about cost, I’m worried about taste. Can beer has a different taste than keg beer. Had I wanted a can, I would have ordered a can. But, I didn’t say anything and kept my mouth shut. So I finish my beer and my friends and I talk for quiet a while. He doesn’t come back to ask about drinks nor has he collected. So we carry our empties to the bar and set them with the money to pay for them. As we are out the door, he calls us back. Whoops, forgot about that $ 1.75 bag of chips. Did they really cost that much or were you thinking you needed a tip for your poor service.

When you hear ‘tiny bar’ used to describe Mahoney’s its an accurate description. The bar itself spans about ¾ the length of the room, an old-fashioned wood affair with brass accents. Some decent beers on tap, some craft brew alongside the usual domestics. There is a pool table stuffed in the back of the room and some high-tops in the rest of the space. They have a fairly decent bottle selection — craft brew styles and stuff you can’t really find on tap anywhere, but it gets pricey if you’re interested in the craft stuff. Every couple months some friends set up a ‘dj’ night wherein we pack the place with hot, sweaty, dancing bodies and plenty of bass. For a music venue the place is very small but that just adds to the vibe because everyone is nice and close to each other. Only been there once outside of dj nights so I cant speak to any specials they might have, pretty sure there isn’t any food on offer although I vaguely recall some frozen pizza being served… service has always been fast even when packed, smiles and such all around.
