Don’t be deterred by road construction downtown! Next time you are looking for a new lunch pkace, try Caribbean Café!
We stopped in for the first time to this charmingly decorated little lunch place and had a great experience Monday. The reaggea soundtrack is at a perfect volume, and simple tables and corrugated panelling left us feeling as though we were on mini holiday. I ordered a pork rice bowl with a mango and pineapple sauce. It was a nicely balanced sweet/​savory cooked perfectly. There was twice as much meat as rice, and the rice (with just a few tender red beans) was delicious enough that we will order a side of it next time. My husband ordered the Goat Curry. His dish was lightly spicy (perfect for my taste) and he added some of the delicious Jamaican hot sauce provided on the table and loved it. Honey Corn bread is well worth a taste as well, made with whole corn kernels and rustic coarse ground corn meal.
We are anxious to return to this obviously lovingly owned and operated unique little getaway just up the street from the library in downtown Cedar Rapids.

This place is amazing, one of the best meals ever!
The Jerk Chicken was excellent, had such an amazing flavor that was not like any other jerk sauce I have tried in the past. The chicken was cooked perfect topped with the amazing sauce made for a great dish.
The red beans & rice and fried plantains that come with it are also very good. They are high quality side dishes that for sure go great with the awesome jerk chicken.
