I read all of the reviews on Amanda and they are definitely true! I was looking to go with a completely different style and cut over six inches off and Amanda did not disappoint! She listened to my wants and needs and made it look better than I could have imagined! Such a friendly group and the office is perfect. I’ve got a new local place to have my hair cut!

Amanda has been doing my hair cuts & color for many years. She always does a great job and is very professional. Amanda always does what you ask or will make suggestions if you aren’t sure what you want done with your hair but you are wanting a change. Amanda and her co workers seem to enjoy working together and make the salon a fun place to go. I recommend anyone looking for a nice, friendly & professional salon to go to the Salon at the Highland. You won’t be disappointed.

Amanda has been cutting my hair for years. I enjoy the small comfortable relaxed setting and chatting with Amanda. I have been to many high dollar salons and spas, but sometimes I just want a relaxing hair cut in comfy clothes without judgement. When my mom and sister moved to Leander from Chicago and they asked for recommendations, I immediately directed them to The Salon at the Highlands. I know they have been pleased as well with both the setting and their haircuts. Most recently my 9 year old made a deal straight A’s for pink highlights. I was scared to say the least, but Amanda put me at ease. I am now officially in the running for Mom of the year! Thanks Amanda

I am not a fan! Amanda pays NO attention to what a customer asks for and just does what she wants. My hair is a medium brown, but it came out BLACK, frizzy and damaged! Her response is that she«knows what’s best for the customer because she has been doing hair for 20 years.» Well, I’ve known my hair for 66 years, and I think I know what I want and it’s NOT black and over processed and frizzed! She socializes with her co-worker instead of paying attention to what she is doing. While she did 2 other people’s hair and ate her lunch, my hair was ‘frying’ from high ammonia developer and turning BLACK! She never even bothered to check the color even once while it was processing. It is all about the money for her! She and her co-worker talk about customers behind their backs after they leave. They snicker and roll their eyes at each other when I ask a question, thinking that I can’t see them in the gigantic mirror in front of me!!! Well, guess again! Don’t go here unless you want to take BIG risks with your hair! I was so distraught when I got home and saw the damage! I emailed her to ask her what I could do to lighten the color, but after waiting 3 days for a response, I decided to take action.

I went in for a pedicure today with Suzanne. I should start off by saying I am very hard on my feet. I go barefoot a lot, and my feet are typically dry, sometimes cracked, and I have two kind of gnarly toenails. It’s not totally hideous, but not pretty either. Today was my first pedicure EVER, and this lady is a MIRACLEWORKER. It’s no surprise she has been voted Best Manicurist. I got a dry pedicure and she made my feet look and feel brand new. I’m not embarrassed to show my toes anymore — she spent almost an hour on the treatment and took her time. She was thorough, and I was comfortable through the whole process. I had a nice time, and the other two stylists were friendly and joined in on the conversation. The price was MORE than fair($ 30) and I will definitely be back.

I won’t be back. I asked for layers(plural) on top, all over color with highlights in front. What I GOT was one chunky layer on top, no color underneath — later discovered this cut is called an Hombre — but it was NOTWHAT I ASKEDFOR. Amanda was kind enough to schedule with me on a Saturday, but BEWARE! She doesn’t listen to instructions.

I have to admit I was skeptical at first when I found out the salon is located inside a retirement home. The residents were eating lunch when I arrived for my appointment but the elevator is easily visible and takes you right outside the door of the salon. The space is small, but it’s very cute and clean. Amanda did my cut and color and she could not have been nicer or more welcoming. She listened to what I wanted and gave me just that. My hairdresser in Dallas charged me $ 100 for the same service but here it was $ 60(after a $ 5 off Unilocal check in offer). The price really can’t be beat. The only difference in Dallas was the type of color they used. My hair is dark brown and would be very glossy afterwards and have almost a purple tint in the sun which I loved. The color here I believe is Matrix and while it still looks nice, the color is a lot more natural. Next time I go I intend to ask if they would be able to use the other color for me if I could locate it and bring it in. If not I did see some crazy colors there(purple, pink, etc) and I might just have a few of those streaks put in to brighten it up. All in all, I was very happy here and will definetly be returning

This place was great! Prices were good, received great service, my hard to handle fuzzy hair looked pretty and straight when I left. Also received a highlight and wax. I will definitely come back. It is a sweet little place!

I had a pretty bad shellac manicure experience and went looking for a CND certified technician to save the day. The CND site led me to Salon at the Highland and I have been going to see Suzanne ever since. She is amazing. She has been so patient with me and my tendency to destroy my hands in new and exciting ways. We have lots of fun coming up with new nail designs and fun ideas. The salon itself is small and cozy. I was a little wary when I learned that the location is in a retirement home, but once you are in the salon itself, it is easy to forget where you are. The pricing is very reasonable and I feel that I get great value in Suzanne’s service. She is personable and easy to talk to and I’ve recommended her to a number of people.

Not a fan. I brought a picture and asked for long chunky layers. I got thin wispy layers. I asked for a blowout, I got a blowdry with a square brush. The stylist was about what I would expect from the salon at Walmart. I should have known better but I was swayed by the reviews. After the manicure client left the nail girl complained loudly about how annoying and talkative she was. The entire salon is very small, it was just mean to speak about an older lady that way. There was no reason for it. I would not go back. I can’t wait for my hair to grow out.

I have been going to Amanda since 2010. She does an awesome job. All three of the women in the shop are very nice. Very affordable and professional. I give 5 stars because I am picky and I am always happy after I get my hair done there, both for the style, color(Foil highlights) and very fair price. And I should mention, I travel from Buda! I used to live near there, and as I have learned through the years, if you find a stylist who does a good job, hang on to her! They are hard to come by!

Amanda has been my stylist for 12 years. I moved with her when she opened the Salon. This is a hidden gem. The stylists do a top rate job that you would pay mega bucks for at an expensive salon. They really care about their clients. You get real one-on-one service. The Salon has never failed to fit me in for that«emergency» haircut when I have procrastinated. Don’t let it being inside of a retirement center fool you, they do a marvelous job and the prices are kept low.

So I’ve been needing a haircut for a long time, long enough that I was able to donate my hair. I saw this on Unilocal under locks of love and it was also very close to my house, so I called and made an appt. First of all, it is located in a retirement home, on the third floor. Odd location but whatever works, right? So parking was not a problem. Just felt weird walking into retirement home. The cafeteria looked like a Lubys. The salon looked more like a Great clips or TGIF salon. Very small, brightly lit and sterile looking. Caught me off guard since I was expecting a «salon» I was the only customer getting a cut so sat in chair and Amanda started talking about the length needed cut for donating. I said sure and talked a bit about style. Off the hair went :) In the end haircut looks great. I’m happy and best of all when you donate you get a free cut… awesome. So why the 3 stars? 1. I have never felt so uncomfortable with the stylist. She barely talked, unless I asked questions. And I felt like she wanted this cut done as fast as possible. I had more enjoyment listening to the manicurist talking to a client. 2. I mentioned to cut shorter in back with more layers. When she did she said, «oh looked better than I thought.» WHAT?!? You didn’t know if it was going to look ok?!? 3. Never got my hair washed or styled. I thought maybe they didn’t have ability to wash it being such a tiny place til I saw the sink underneath a table. Then I saw later the price list and she had different prices for haircut with or without wash and style. Never offered to me if I wanted it washed or styled. I would have paid for it. Felt a bit like she thought I was cheap for getting a cut free for donating. Anyways, in the end when I was done she told me to get a business card and filled out the forms for donating and she handled everything else with mailing it off too. Honestly I would have loved for this place to be my new salon, especially with my cut looking pretty good and the price for cuts were pretty darn awesome. But I didn’t feel very welcomed. I may come again when I’m really needing a quick cut, but I think I may be searching still for a salon. But if you’re looking for a salon cut with insanely nice prices, you should still try this place out, but don’t walk in with any expectations. It is just a simple salon.

Salon is fabulous — all the girls are super-talented. Great service, great cuts/color, great prices. Amanda and her team are great — give it a try! They’re very accommodating and especially kind to their senior citizen customers and children, too!

Found this salon listed on Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids websites and so glad I did! I took my daughter there for her first haircut ever! She’s 4 years old and was really looking forward to getting her hair cut and donating it. It’s inside a retirement apartment complex and you’d never know it’s there because there is no sign outside of the complex for it. Everyone should know about this gem. It’s a simple place, but I like that. No need for t.v. or other distractions. They do everything there and they were great with my daughter. We donated her hair to Locks of Love and they gave me the form to fill out and they took care of sending the hair off. If you are donating your hair, the haircut is free, but of course we tipped! It’ll be our salon from now on!

i found Salon At The Highlands by searching Unilocal. What a great find this salon turned out to be and the positive reviews posted were certainly correct. Suzanne is a very gentle and professional Nail Technician. She takes the time needed for a great pedicure and I never feel rushed. I’ve had uncomfortable pedicures in the past and appreciate Suzanne’s care. Amanda cut my hair for the first time last month and she did a very nice cut. She listened to what I wanted and worked with my curly, wavy, almost frizzy hair in an excellent manner. I intend to continue going to Salon At The Highlands for both pedicures and haircuts.

I feel like I need to give a review of the wonderfull cut and partial highlighting I received w/Amanda. 2 reviews does not do her enough justice. However, they also say that the only people who actually review are usually mad at a bad experience… so maybe the lack of reviews is a positive. :-) I really dont enjoy ritzy salons w/pretentious employees that overcharge for a simple cut. So I searched Unilocal and found the Salon at The Highland and was not disappointed. The location is a little odd. Being on the 3rd floor of a retirement center, and I was directed to the salon by 2 very cute elderly-ladies sitting in a couch at the front entrance. They directed me up 2 flights of stairs, but as I was leaving I did notice an elevator. Maybe they were giving me a hint that i need to take the stairs more often… When I walked in I saw only 3 stylist chairs, 1 Manicure station and 3 Blow-drying chairs. I was greeting w/a warm welcome and was seen right away. It’s a fairly small room, but it felt cozy and comfortable. There was only 1 other person being seen by another sylist. I totally felt like I was getting 100% of Amanda’s attention… and my hair looks great to prove it! I didnt bring a picture or have any real idea of what I wanted, not to mention that I always feel guilty when getting my hair cut due to the sheer VOLUME of hair I have… which is also why I tend to only get partial highlights. I had long hair, and wanted it gone yet something easy to style. She suggested the length, which I agreed. She suggested the layers, which I emphatically agreed to once she explained how it could enhance my waves into curls. Now onto price. I hate to put this out there but… I think I was under charged. I swear I’ve paid close to $ 120 for similar styles and I walked out of The Salon at the Highland paying about half of that. I was amazed, and tipped her accordingly. She definitely deserved more than what she charged! I will be returning. I have found my new hair stylist! I can’t wait to see her again when I change it up for Autumn. PS: All of the staff were great! There was Amanda and 2 other staff members, and I feel like it was easy conversation w/any of them. If for any reason I couldnt see Amanda again I would be happy to take an appointment w/any of her employees.

Suzanne gave me a terrific pedicure! I don’t pamper myself very often and this was a special treat. What I really enjoyed is that it didn’t hurt. I have been to many places where they pull and poke your toenails so hard… it’s not relaxing at all. Well, Suzanne did not do that. My feet look and feel great! Thanks Suzanne!

Like the previous reviewer said, you’d never know to look for a hairstylist at a retirement complex, but the hair salon at the Highlands is about as good as it gets! It’s a very clean, bright salon with very reasonable prices– $ 13 for a womens shampoo and cut. Amanda knows what she’s doing with hair and takes her time with you– unlike other hairstylists I’ve been to. If you go, call ahead for an appointment since the hours are somewhat varied.
