Many years ago, after moving to the DeSoto/​Cedar Hill border, our beautiful Missy Lynn went exploring a little to far, and was lost!!! We looked and looked, no sleep, cried for days, called the shelter everyday, and no sign of her. I even got stuck down in Ten Mile creek walking and calling. It took me 3 hours after exhausting myself to climb back up the canyon and get home. I was hurt, bleeding from thorns and falling, and totally grief stricken. Once out of the bottom of the creek, I realized that I had just enough time to go to Tri City and just look around. They allowed me to walk thru and look in all the cages. as I wound my way up and down the isles, I just crumbled, the sobs were louder then the barking of all the other dogs. At the very end, as I turned the last corner, I saw the saddest dog hunkered in the corner, head hanging low and sitting on a heap of blankets. As I closed the gap walking faster and faster, I called out «Missy, Missy, Miiisssy!!!» With dirty hands I wiped my tears, dropped to my knees and grabbed the kennel door. This poor dog, was it really her? As the depressed and shaking dog lifted her head, we locked eyes, she looked for what seemed minutes, and then she bolted to her feet! Her howls broke my heart, it was her, she cried and licked my face threw the chain link gate, and howled again. Loud enough to alert the staff. They were laughing and carrying on too, so happy that we had found one and other. As they brought me a leash to bring her out of the cage, I was told that she was to be put down tomorrow if no one had claimed or adopted her. The entire staff was so worried, that the blankets she had, belonged to a volunteer. As we walked to the door, after taking care of paperwork and money, she pushed the door, and pulled me to the car. Fortunately we lived with in a couple of miles of the shelter, as I drove down our long drive way, I honked the horn like a mad woman. My husband and three children came running, curious about the commotion. I rolled down the window and as loud as I could yelled, «I found Missy!» Actually I couldn’t get the words all the way out before she jumped out the open window. As I parked the car and looked at my family rolling around on the ground hugging and being tackled by their sweet Golden/​Shepherd mix, I knew that one day, hopefully in the far future I would pay it forward and adopt a dog from Tri-​City Animal Shelter! But that story is for another day. Go by there and save a life, because who knows, it just might be your own.

Animal control took in a dog that a breeder left out on the street. She happened to wander in my yard and one of the neighbor’s. After I met her, I fell in love. They let me check in on her daily and even let me visit her. Her owners never came forward, so I adopted her. The process was easy and they took care of everything, even her heart worms. She’s a perfect companion and I am so glad they treated her so well after her ordeal with her previous owners. She’s now being spoiled rotten.

So I found a dog with wounds at a truck stop not far from here on my business travels. I googled the closest animal shelter and this location popped up so I brought him here. I explained and got the death stare looks like I’m lying. I have 4 cats, 4 dogs all rescued couldn’t take in anymore or I would have. So a worker wanted to deny us to bring him in because he wasn’t found down the street! All rude! Even after I explained I was doing the right thing, no one stopped to help his bleeding wounds but me. Even bought him food and water. I just think it was very rude of her to deny an animal even if he wasn’t found down the street or to automatically judge. Practically wanted to shoo me out!

What a wonderful staff and facility. I brought a Madison into today to introduce her to volunteering, though she is to young the staff let us play with Daniel in a play room. She really enjoyed it.

Our first day to volunteer here. It’s very nice and clean, and seems well-​run. Staff is very friendly, and strongly invested in the animals.
Lots of really sweet dogs – all kinds of different personalities. So, if you’re looking for a dog (or cat), go on in and meet some cuties!
They have a new program that younger teens (11 – 16 years) can volunteer if a parent is with them. So, if you have a young animal lover, there are plenty of dogs need walking!
