One of the most popular tourist spots in Albuquerque is not really in Albuquerque. It’s the Sandia Peak Tram. Beat the heat in town with a nice cool ride to the top of the mountain. But what are you going to do once you’re up there? Sit and drink? Get a sun burn? No. Instead take a very nice, 1.5 mile walk along the crest to the Kiwanis Cabin. This is an old, all stone building built right on the edge of the cliff. The trail is well marked and an easy hike. Walk over and hang at the cabin for awhile. Along the way, you’ll get to see a variety of wildlife, and have the best views in the state. Bring a picnic lunch and soak it all in. Just watch out for the occasional Boy Scout troop or gaggle of tourists. But you won’t have any problem finding a peaceful spot all along the way.
