Since they changed ownership the taste and quality of the food has gone down. I used to eat her once a week. I won’t be going back again.

Usually a pretty good place to go for that Caribbean fix in your life. Curried Goat is good, Jerk Chicken is tender and Oxtails are flavorful! However on this last visit to just get some good ol’ CoCo bread was not at all what I imagined it would be. I needed to purchase 12, yes twelve pieces of CoCo bread which comes into the store in bags of(4), so I purchased 12 pieces for a party late that evening. Much much later that evening it was brought to my attention that the bread was old. Come to find out the bread I purchased on the 19th of September had expired on the 2nd of September, more than 2 weeks ago. I was hot!!! I returned to the store with(2) full bags of bread to return and I was immediately told that they do not take food back, I tried to plead my case and after about 10 minutes I was told that I could order something else because they do not return money. What the manager in the store told me was that he thinks the bakery from where they get the bread, baked it and then stores it, then ships it out. So you are telling me you buy old bread on purpose? It always amazes me that these restaurants don’t know their products well and may get customer sick and/or dissatisfied with these establishments.

This was recommended by a new yorker transplant. She told me that the patties were great and that they had coco bread. The coco bread reminds me of a sweet bread/roll. Our was a little dry. The patties were good, 2 spicy beef and 1 veggie. They were slightly better than store bought. We also ordered the plantains and the jerk chicken and fries with no jerk sauce. The plantains were old and rubbery. Lima’s chicken up the street has better plantains. And the chicken and fries were disgusting. The fries looked like they were burnt and tasted the same as they looked. The chicken was dry, old and burnt. Not to mention it hadn’t been cleaned properly. There were several pieces that had the spiny part of the feathers sticking out.

I like their beef patties. They are good. Stooped by tonight to get some, they were closed @7:40pm. They should be opened till 8 or even 8:30pm.

Their oxtails are THEEEWORST!!! Can you say beef jerky not oxtail. This is the second time in two weeks that my order was messed up. There was NO gravy in my oxtail and keep in mind I ASKED twice for gravy and gravy on my white rice. I was given two platters w rice & peas when I specifically asked for a WHITE rice. The oxtails were tough and not tender AT a ALL. I gave the a second chance after my precious messed up order but they will def NEVET get my business again nor were they sincerely apologetic about their mistake when I called them.

Good food. had the jerk chicken and Jamaican chicken curry. Jerk chicken needed some sauce. they have a spicy/sweet/sour sauce which is good. Would of liked more curry but still very good. Gave rice and veggies with dish.

overall the food is good! I love the Oxtail and Curry Goat. The oxtail is great most times, only once i got a tough batch. I made them aware of it but the person I spoke to didn’t seem to care or offer replacement.

I decided to give this place a try after my normal Caribbean restaurant just started to decline. The rice taste as if it’s boil and bag, the veggies were hard, the chicken was ok and the plantain was ok although it taste like it came from a frozen bag. I’ll pass on this place!

I am not new to Golden Krust; I have known GK since I used to live in NYC. I am glad that there is GK in the area. This Golden Krust is cleaner than the GK in Jamaica Queens NYC. I can say that this is the stop for oxtail stew. Their oxtail stew is saucy, tasty, and tender. I have been looking for Caribbean food since I moved in Maryland and I have found the perfect oxtail stew cooking at the Golden Krust. Going back from time to time to have fatty but perfectly cooked oxtail stew will be a part of my eating out. However, I can’t say never that when my curiousity strikes to try other Caribbean /Jamaican restaurant is going to be over.

It’s decent Jamaican food for the area, though I’ve had better. You don’t get as much food for the amount of money spent. Asked for a ladle of jerk sauce on the side after spending $ 25.00 on lunch and was not obliged. Thanks lady!

I am solely reviewing on oxtail platter only! I am a sucker for Jamaican oxtail stew. When its good, its freaking GOOD! I tried this place for the first time and the best way to describe would be that it will cure your oxtail addiction for time being. Could it be better? YES! its the usual rice and peas with fried plantains and oxtail simmered in their special gravy and served over rice and peas. The only thing I didn’t like was the gravy. It was just a very thick dark brown gravy that was a little too much on the salty side. The meat itself was soft and the way it was supposed to be. If you ever eat from a place like Caribbean delight II in Beltsville MD than you will know why it could have been much better. Overall… I will go back but maybe try something different like roti. I would only do oxtail from this place again if I am really starving for one and Beltsville is not an option at that particular time.

When did jamaican food get this expensive? I wanted a Roti, but was told that I had to get it with something else. Okay, I got it with chicken. Total was around 9 bucks. The roti and chicken came in a box so small, it measured literally 5 by 5 inches. the roti was folded in this extremely weird way, probably from being smashed into the box. My bofriend ordered curry chicken for about 7 bucks and got a spoonful of the stew in a box that was also around 5×5 inches. Is this another one of those Thai restaurant paradoxes, in which you pay a lot for small servings? The food itself was decent, nothing to rave about, but also pretty good tasting. Jamaican patties seemed to be a bit stale, probably from sitting in the heat box all day. The dollar store sells Golden Krust’s beef and chicken patties for $ 1 each. It actually tastes better than the warm ones in store when you heat those up. Don’t buy the $ 3 dollar stale ones they have in store.

Leaving the Caribbean and coming home puts your into withdrawal. Withdrawal of not having spicy beef patties every day. Returning to Baltimore I found the Golden Krust Bakery and found something that can hold me over until the next vacation. I have not tried anything else on their menu(unfortunately) because I always leave with a bag of patties and one in my mouth for the walk to the car. Get your fix… I’m getting the shakes and need a trip down to Catonsville soon.

Hmm a chain Caribbean restaurant… I must admit I was a tad skeptical. But, they had a sign out for specials AND roti so I had to try it. So it’s located n the plaza with the H-Mart pretty easy to find. The inside IMHO isn’t really for sitting, rather for carry out as there are only bar stools and things. The staff are really friendly and we’re willing to break things down if need be. Now the most important thing… the food. So instead of getting the special I decided to get the curry roti. So I’m used to Trini roti, packed nice and tight seasoned right with the chicken pieces, aloo, channa, and what not. This came out more as a pocket. This season was pretty good, but there wasn’t much else put inside of the roti. I had to add hot sauce to mine. It was a decent price for what you got; although, I have gone places and gotten a bit more… Bottom line, I want to go back to try their stew, rice and peas…

I am often disappointed when they do not have the Spicy Beef patty but they make up for their lack of inventory if they have Grapenut Ice cream in stock. The service is very friendly as the workers their will tilt their head in sympathy when I pout about not being able to get a patty. That too makes me feel better. I have discovered that Wed. is their delivery day and since then have made it a point to stop in on Wednesdays for fresh Hard Dough bread and Ice Cream and that’s right you guessed it, my Spicy beef Patties!!! Not like the stores in NY but Maryland is trying and doing an okay job so far.

I really liked this place. Service was very friendly, a lot of food for your money and a lot of options. It’s a very casual place– basically fast food ambiance– making it a good choice for a quick stop or lunch or just a less formal occasion. I got jerk chicken and my girlfriend got curried chicken. Both were very good as were the side dishes. The jerk chicken had a good amount of heat as well as spice but wasn’t unbearable which left me very satisfied. I’ve been let down many times in DC by «Caribbean» restaurants that cater to American tastes with jerk chicken that is not spicy at all and tastes more like mall chinese/bourbon food(see Negril). The sides were also very satisfying compared to those same places in DC where everything sorta tastes bland. Rice, beans and plaintains were all satisfying for me. The meals aren’t cheap, but you get a lot for what you pay for so I would still consider it affordable. They had two size options on most if not all dishes as well.

I’m a big fan of jerk chicken sandwiches and love to get them whenever I can. However, I wasn’t thrilled with the ones they served here. Normally the Jamaican restaurants I’ve been to serve their jerk sandwiches on delicious coco bread. At Golden Krust, they serve their sandwiches on regular white bread, which tastes nowhere near as good and also seems kind of cheap. Also, the atmosphere doesn’t seem like they really want you to dine in. It’s not the kind of place I’d want to stay to eat, even though I’m normally fine with casual places. It kind of feels like someone is running a Jamaican restaurant out of the back of a grocery store. The jerk chicken itself could be more flavorful, and same with the patties. The food at Golden Krust is edible but not something I’d go back for – it’s kind of bland and average. Golden Krust isn’t terrible, but it’s certainly not the best Jamaican food I’ve tried, and I’d prefer to go elsewhere instead. I haven’t tried anything else there, since I wasn’t impressed enough to go back. Maybe their other dishes are better?

Reopened recently(within the last few months) and is under new ownership/management. Golden Krust is a chain restaurant serving up Jamaican food(brown stew, jerk meats, curries, patties, baked goods). The patties were nice and hot, fresh from the oven. They do offer a variety of different types of patties compared to the other local Caribbean restaurants in this area. However, I wasn’t a fan of the ratio of pastry crust and filling though(more crust than filling). Perhaps it was because there isn’t much substance to the filling; SX didn’t like how the meat filling had a paste-like consistency. The paste-like consistency made it seem like that filling wasn’t actual meat and was a bit of a turn off. The goat curry meal was good(large for around $ 10). The curry had the right level of spice and curry kick to it. It was flavorful and easy to eat with the rice and beans. The vegetable side here is more than just cabbage, there’s some peas, green peppers, carrots, etc. We also tried a side of the Festival(3 pieces per order for $ 1). It’s similar to a hush puppy, but more sweetness. It has that cornmeal texture going for it. They do offer lunch specials for $ 4.99, so will probably be back to try that, since it seems like a good deal. Very clean on the inside. There’s some seating inside, but mostly counter top and stools type of seating. They also offer a lot of various packaged baked goods like sweet buns, and breads studded with dried, candied fruits. They also sell pints of the York Ice Cream(located on Rockville Pike in Rockville, MD). Located in the H Mart Plaza.

Atmosphere small but modern, prices are average really and you get good sized portions. Quality of the food is what you would expect from quality Jamaican food although the veggies are hit or miss crunchy veggies not great. Stew Chicken is great. Note credit card purchases must be $ 10+

I think they are way too expensive. You order the $ 10 curry chicken meal and you get like one good chunk of actual meat to eat. The curry was good, but definitely expect your stomach to be a mess the next day. I think Negril is better, but I guess I will have to settle for Golden Krust as long as I live up the street.
