Soo many sushi options! We were a little overwhelmed with the menu and decided to create our own. What a great opportunity to finally get to see what your favorites will taste like together! The sushi we created was yummy and a signature roll called hugito was super delicious! I especially liked the basil in the sushi. A unique experience!

Awesome sushi — fresh sashimi & unique rolls. And nice choices of sake. The place is small & cozy with a quiet ambience. The staff is polite & sweet.

Came here on a Friday evening, fairly packed, but sparse opening seats available enough for myself and two other friends. The place isn’t that big, but cozy. Ordered 4 different items to share with my friends. We had: scallop appetizer, which we thought wasn’t that fresh, but it was highly recommended by our waitress, lovely sweet lady btw. Next appetizer was the Pokimon; tuna swimming in sweet plum sake sauce, I think, the sauce was just too overpowering… So we were pretty disappointed with the first two dishes. Comes the UNI Nigiri; now whoa! Probably one of the freshest and yummiest UNI I’ve tasted in a while, it was fantastic, fresh and UNI sweet, I should have ordered more. Then last, we ordered the«Surf and Turf», torched Kobe beef that’s topped on a simple sushi roll with the cavity of fried shrimp tempura and asparagus, it was reallllyyy good, the Kobe beef was melt in your mouth good, the torching gives it a smoked flavor to it, so good! I wish I have some more right now! So it seems like I’m turned off by their appetizers, but will definitely try more nigiri, sashimis and rolls next time.

The food was good, but would I come back, that is debatable only because of the price. For the price they were charging I felt I should get a little more for my money. I forgot the rolls I ordered but for some reason the price crept up on me, and my bill was over 100 dollars. The staff was good and the service was great.

First, thanks to a restaurant I won’t name that, for some unknown reason, was not open when we arrived. As a result we ended up at I Sushi. I ordered the sashimi lunch. Mark ordered The Heat specialty roll. Mine came with salad and miso soup. The roll did not. The salad was small, which is not unusual. It was super fresh and the dressing, used sparingly to perfection, was very tasty. The miso soup included onions, a nice addition. Also very good. The sashimi included eight pieces, two each red tuna, sea bass, salmon and albacore. The red tuna was sprinkled with green onions. It was good, which for me is great. What that means is I’m not a huge fan of red tuna, but it is usually included in any restaurant’s sashimi special. I am just not a fan of this dense fish, but the tuna here was not unpleasant. The sea bass was very good, but didn’t melt in my mouth. The salmon was fantastic. It was so smooth and delicate. It did melt in my mouth. And finally the star, the albacore. It was so good I had to ask what it was so I could order it when we return. It came with green onions and crushed garlic. Oh my goodness, it was extraordinary! The flavor was so delicious. I want a plateful of this next time. One last note about the sashimi. The pieces were large, with the perfect thickness. Each piece could easily have been two, so while eight pieces at $ 18 seemed just a tad steep, it was very much worth it. Mark really enjoyed The Heat. He said it was crunchy with a blast of lemon in each piece. The flavors really hit home. I’ve wavered between giving I Sushi four or five stars. I’ve decided on five.

Unagi don was delicious and affordable!!! For just $ 17, you are given 7 hefty slices of unagi atop a bed of rice drizzled in tobiko + your choice of california or cucumber roll(real crab used in california). I love me some unagi, and I Sushi satisfied my craving. We came here on a busy Friday night and were sat on the second floor. Yes, they have stairs leading up to extra seating(not too big, probably only 3 tables ~ 1 being long). The plaza that it’s located in gets extremely busy, so good luck finding parking! We circled around at least 10 times before finding a space, and that was across the way. The menu is unique in that it makes you«think outside of the bento box.» As japanese restaurant frequenters, we were expecting a bento section since we always feel like you get the most bang for your buck during dinner time. But they specialize in their rolls and rice plates and our proud of it! We had excellent, attentive service for our big group. And there is a free pineapple ice cream check in offer!

After a terrible thai food experience from across the street I went and joined my family for isushi. I ordered the crunchy tofu which was really delicious, light and not greasy at all. I also had the gyoza which was super flavorful, we ended up ordering 3 orders. The hot sake was nice and hot, very warming. Their chicken teriyaki was delicious and well balanced. The only downside is that my family was holding my seat at the sushi bar and a guy just came up and sat down. So I had to stand for more than 20 mins and I’m disabled, very uncool of the guy to do that’s for sure. Once I did get to sit and enjoy the meal it was really yummy and I will return. My daughter comes here once a week for the crunchy tofu and gyoza with the occasional rolls.

Got ripped off tonight. Went with my family and friends, total of 6(3 adults n 3 two year old kids). We ordered Hamachi sashimi but they brought us albacore. They took it back and gave us halibut. Besides the salmon, the halibut and ankimo tasted like it was just defrosted and not fresh. The texture was very tough. The rolls we ordered was very small and not much fish on top. The pan fried salmon was a bit dry. We were also charged gratuity for 3 adults and 3 toddlers under 3 years old that didn’t even eat much. Won’t be back.

2.5 stars. Not impressed. I was recommended this place when I moved to Castro Valley, and went in for a weeknight dinner with my husband. Service was great, very clean restaurant and nice ambiance. But the sushi was seriously average. When my husband and I check out new sushi places, we typically stick with basic rolls to see if the fish is fresh.(If you can’t do the basics right, then why bother?!) The rolls were tiny, bland. Nothing notable about the fish, didn’t taste particularly fresh, but not un fresh. Everything was EXTREMELY overpriced, couldn’t get a specialty roll for less than $ 13. After my visit, my sister said«oh, that’s a place where you go and drop $ 120 on 2 people for dinner, or else it’s not great». I’m not down for a casual $ 100, mediocre dinner in Castro valley on a Thursday! I’ll stick to Sushiland just down the road.

When I was in high school, I heard a lot about this place but never actually got around to trying here. About 6 years later, I FINALLY remembered… I don’t need to ask mom for an allowance, so I can eat wherever I want and just pay my own bill! I came here for a dinner and I could see why many locals like this place. They’re very personable with the customers and I can easily see this being a regular spot for many. It definitely is only good for dates or meals with only a few people though. The tables are squeezed in and I awkwardly kept bumping elbows with the lady next to my table. Service was very quick here and I was surprised to be seated within a few minutes of coming in on a Friday evening(probably just came in at the right time). Our order consisted of just a Sashimi dinner and an Unagi Don. The salads and miso soup came right after our order was placed. I really liked the flavor of the soup, not too salty and a little different with carrots and onions in it. As for the salad, the dressing was very light but the lettuce was a bit old(ended up picking a bunch out of the bowl). Sashimi dinner: Highlight was the salmon(sake) sashimi. It melted in my mouth and tasted very fresh. The tuna(probably akami = lowest in fat on a tuna) and everything else was alright but wasn’t as fresh as the salmon. There was a white sashimi that I forgot was it was; it was the only one that tasted fishy and smelled strange in the dish. Overall, it wasn’t too bad but not amazing. Unagi Don: Served on a plate with the salad and a cutely cut orange, I was glad to see that it wasn’t the frozen kind that I normally see at Asian super markets. Unagi was delicious and no complaints for it at all. Final Thoughts: Dinner was on the expensive side but it wasn’t too bad. Portion size was decent and the servers were very attentive to everything. I’d like to come back here to try lunch or a roll next time.

For the price they charge the sushi is very average to below average. It’s one of those fusion places so it’s not a traditional sushi menu. The menu is cryptic to read and they really need to simplify things. Place is also really tiny so be prepared to squeeze in. The service was also so-so. Asked the waitress for advice on the menu and she basically blew us off. Felt ripped off paying extreme prices for inferior quality.

Had been going to satomi sushi in Fremont every Sunday for the last 2 – 3 months. Got bored and got on Unilocal to find an alternative. After some dismal suggestions in union city, the search in Hayward got a hit. After a 20 min drive we reached. Small restaurant but there were Lots of empty seats. We sat at the bar. The décor is nothing impressive, but it was clean. The staff was friendly but not too attentive. Rating for food– California roll– 4 stars-used fresh crab meat. No imitation crab here. 2006– 5 stars– good proportions of fish and rice. I hate it when sushi places put too much rice in an attempt to make the rolls bigger. The Unagi was awesome, the pineapple added a nice touch and the white fish was super fresh. J Jessica roll– 5 star– I loved the surprising crunch that the almonds added. The sweet wasabi sauce was awesome. Mango dream– 5 stars– we forgot to mention if it was an order for 1 or 2(wanted 1) so they made it an Order for 2 without confirming. But it was awesome and we cleaned up the plate. Coconut ice cream with macadamia nuts and honey, fried mango and fried avocado. Green tea ice cream– 5 stars– free from Unilocal checkin. Awesome flavored. Decently sweetened. I am definitely coming back.

Good sushi with good service. The menu can be a bit overwhelming with all the unique names and numerous options. Most memorable was the 007 roll that was recommended by a waitress. Each individual sushi piece was topped with a jalapeño seeds removed for a small hint of spicy.

I decided to try this place after all the amazing reviews(again you can’t trust all Unilocal reviews, I was totally disappointed) The Sashimi I had on the salad was decent. The rolls itself where soggy and falling apart. The plates /dishes were very pretty however the rolls we ordered lacked flavor and the quality of ingredients where questionable. The customer service was horrible. When we were there the small restaurant was not that busy. The menu is overwhelming, there’s a ton of options and their roll’s are named after their patrons. I showed them a picture on Unilocal of what I wanted to try(iFlower salad) they no longer have it on the menu but they did make it for us which was very nice of them. For the price, portion, lack of quality ingredients and lack of customer service I have to give them 3 stars.

Looking to get together with two of my dearest friends for dinner, I decided to drive out their way since I hadn’t dined in Castro Valley in ages. We decided on sushi because again I hadn’t had that in quite a while! iSushi is located inside the vintage but wildly popular Village Shopping Center and parking is very iffy so bring some good luck charms with you if you plan on coming. We found an excellent parking spot and went in. The place is very small with a few tables dotting the dining area but found out later they have a terrace area upstairs for private parties. Sat down on ok chairs in the comfort dept and began to look over the menu. My friends and I were so busy catching up that we had to look at the menus several times before finally ordering. My friends went the hibachi/teppanyaki route while I kept it raw and uncensored haha! I finally settled on two designer rolls, the 999 which I prefered with tempura shrimp, unagi, basil, spicy tuna and tobiko and the Fried Eskimo which entailed salmon, cream cheese & tobiko. Both rolls were really good and plentiful as far as satiating me and altogether presented very nicely until I nom nom nom’d it into my gaping maw! I saw my friends really enjoyed their dishes too making me think I should go that route next time I am here. We ended the evening here with some mochi and green tea ice cream for dessert. I can’t stand mochi so I bet you can’t guess what I had instead lol

I’ve been here twice and thought it was decent sushi. It wasn’t fishy at all which makes or breaks a spot for me. I like their spicy mayo and unagi sauces too. Sometimes places make those different and it kills the roll for me. Their hamachi nigiri was on point! Their service, however, wasn’t the best. I drank my water really fast and didn’t get a new one until I was ending my meal. When that is the only drink on the table and it isn’t busy in the place at all, filling my glass of water doesn’t seem like something too difficult to accomplish as a server. Again, their sushi was decent, but I have had amazing sushi from Aniki’s and Satomi in Fremont, so I am a bit of a sushi snob. Haha

iSushi is a small intimate sushi restaurant located amidst a dense variety of good eats. With limited parking. You may say hole in the wall. What separates this establishment from the rest, for me, the Unilocal reviews. As for my personal experience, the service has been very much geared towards making sure that we were well taken care of and making sure that we had a good experience. Our server gave us recommendations and upon receiving our entrees she also informed us on how certain items were to be eaten for a balance in flavor. In short, iSushi has great service! The cuisine is done well. I been here before, the food and service is consistent. The reason for a four star and not a five star review, it is pricy and parking is very congested. If you’re ever in the area and feeling like sushi try this place! +=

iSushi was an interesting experience. for the first 20 minutes of staring at their menu, more confused than ever. I asked the waitress about their lengthy titles to their food items. I was then told that their dishes were all named after their customers… most of those were couples, so you can imagine how confused I was. I still think the names are a little ridiculous; Danielle, Josh. But the food was amazing. iSushi is Japanese fusion so their dishes are not what you would expect to find at other Japanese restaurants. We had roles that were seared, and torched, then wrapped with kobe beef. Excellent food, with good service. Plan to spend $$$

Fancy, delicious, fresh, but pricey. This really is an innovative Japanese Fushion Sushi Bar, so if you are up for a twist in sushi and paying a little extra for it, then come here. If not, don’t say I warned you. This is a foodie’s paradise. Wonderfully plated sushi rolls, izakaya plates, and sashimi. I tried Eric’s Desire that had butterfish, jalapeño, plum, and a delicious vinaigrette sauce that I used for all the upcoming rolls. Eric’s Desire was good, but pricey at $ 17 and only 6 pieces. So we ordered rolls to fill us up I definitely recommend getting rolls with macadamia nuts, because they give a crunchy kick to the rolls. That includes Brynne & Madison and Hugito Explosion. They were both great. 01+01 was good too. All dishes we ordered I give 4 out of 5 stars. OVERALL: Great sushi presentation, consistently delicious, but expect to pay a lot. But yes, I’d come back for more, because I believe this may be one of the best sushi restaurants in the East Bay.
